Unfortunately the bar was running low on supplies Friday night. The usual good wine selection by the glass was limited as was their beer selection. Bar was also slow with our cocktails. Overall, we had a great dinner with friends. Food and ambiance were great, BUT it was pushing a 3-hour dinner because of bar delays
Very nice. Quiet and great to have a conversation
Very good! Quiet on a Tuesday evening (semi busy). Not sure of noise level when super busy, but there is carpet to help with noise.
The food was delicious as usual and the service is superb.
The food was great at Checkers, and also they have excellent wine choices. The service was sub-par. It took a long time for our server to come to our table and we had to flag him down to put in our order. They also seemed to forget to bring out my wine and I had to ask for it. The service staff seemed friendly, just stressed and rushed. This could also be a management problem.
Overall, good food, but disappointed with the service. I'd come back, but not my top spot in Lanc.
Absolutely wonderful dinner and atmosphere. Very quiet and private.
Great food, fine service, and reasonable prices set Checkers as the go-to restaurant - for special occasions with groups or a private dinner for two or a casual meal with friends. Our favorite restaurant in Lancaster.
We had our anniversary dinner at Checkers and couldn't have been more pleased. The food and service were excellent; and our dessert plate included a Happy Anniversary greeting written in chocolate. Nice touch!
A lovely brunch celebrating double
Birthdays. However the meals were not good - the chicken(s) breasts on our Kale salads were both dry and over done. The service saved the day as Jonathan was kind, attentive and professional. Thanks to the front of house staff for redeeming the back of houses’ shortcomings (from underdone calamari to overdone chicken to flavorless desserts (we had 3 disappointing selections).
Excellent food and service as always. Would highly recommend
The evening began with meeting our server, a guy whose personal manner was half-eel, half-junior high school creeper.
But there's not much any of us could do to fix that, so whatever. Let's just enjoy dinner and roll with the lurking and staring.
When he brought us our drinks, I was reading the menu, but I looked up just in time to see the waiter disappearing into the kitchen after having delivered a bottle of beer that wasn't the one I had ordered. But he was out of sight and the beer he brought was serviceable, I so drank it.
Still rolling with the creepy — and careless — waiter, and just trying to enjoy a nice dinner and and nice evening.
The next time we see our waiter, he's bringing us our entrees and they look delicious. Enjoying dinner is shaping up to be a very easy thing to do. And it was. For about five minutes.
My girlfriend was taking a bite of her salmon filet when she suddenly her face went from smiling to disconcerted and she started coughing and choking. After a few seconds, she coughed out the thing that had stuck in her throat. It was a long, thin salmon bone.
This struck us both as bizarre. She had ordered a salmon filet, not something one could reasonably expect to have bones in it. It was the only time that had happened to either of us, over decades of eating salmon. After taking a minute to catch her breath, she turned back to her meal and had almost eaten another bite before she stopped and combed through the rest of the filet to make sure there weren't any more bones.
After she had picked out at a half-dozen, I stopped counting.
She politely told our waiter what happened, and he was genuinely surprised and apologetic and went to tell the kitchen. He returned a few minutes later and passed on the message from the chef.
"That happens sometimes," he said.
No, it doesn't.
It shouldn't happen ever, or at least shouldn't happen in a dish we paid $24 for.
We didn't enjoy dinner.
Leaving dinner, however, was wonderful.
Caesar salad was VERY salty, small plate items were delicious. Ambiance/vibe very nice, our server was very pleasant but rather inattentive requiring numerous reminders.
Great service delicious food
Love Checkers. Brunch portions are small, but reasonably priced for the quality.
Good food and service. Too much noise from the bar.
Another great experience at one of our favorite restaurants in the Lancaster area. The scallops and tuna with frites are fantastic!
Great Food and well trained staff. Nice ambiance.Always consistent
Checkers has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. Unfortunately, on this occasion the service was terrible and the food was just fair. We had to ask for pepper and salt, and bread and butter. Three people ordered soup and only one came out. The other two didn't come out until the first was finished. One drink came out and the other three came 10 minutes later. The second round of drinks also took a long time to arrive. There was a 30 minute wait between finished appetizers and dinner, and we didn't see our waiter for long periods of time. They were obviously understaffed, but no apology was given. The beet salad was dry on top because it was made too far in advance. The Caesar salad was good, but the chicken was hard and dry. Two in our party had the fish special, which was good, but on a Saturday night there should be more than one special available, especially since the menu is old and lackluster having not been changed in a long time.
My husband and I were greeted with a mimosa as we waited and the experience only improved from there! We were so impressed with the service. We will be returning soon!
Nice but very loud. Food a little unimaginative. Had to wait for table with a reservation.
Highly recommend the Steak frites! Very nice quiet atmosphere!
Nice brunch options with $5 mimosas and bloody mary's. They also have those excellent duck tacos on the menu besides the breakfast food. French press coffee.
I believe our waiter was new. Also Music was very loud and inhibited conversation. The food and atmosphere were excellent.
There was no "wow" factor to match the cost of the food and drinks. The meal was good but just not worth the cost compared to other applicable restaurants in the area.
For starters I ordered the roasted beet salad while my wife had the kale salad. Both were excellent. We both had filet mignon and the chef prepared those to perfection. Service was very good but the waitress made one mistake. I ordered a bottle of cabernet sauvigon from Sonoma County but although it was on the menu, it wasn't available. She offered a substitute that she said was from Sonoma County that I accepted, site unseen, but the wine she brought to the table was from St. Helena. The wine was OK but why the deception? The noise level was loud enough to heard conversations from other tables. Never the less we both will return.
First time at Checkers with friends and definitely will return. Delicious food and excellent service. Ordered the scallops and they were done perfectly. Desserts are a work of art.
Always Fabulous! It's our go to restaurant when we are in the area. Sometimes we make a special trip because we love the service, ambiance and superb cuisine
