Chaz on the Plaza Ratings and Reviews
We had always wanted to try this place because we heard it was “fancy.” The service was great but the food was meh. We had the Valentine’s Day price fix courses. Lobster bisque was great but ribeye special was not good at all. It was prepared like a pin-wheel which was interesting but the inside was cold and not flavorful at all. The chocolate Moulton cake didn’t “moult” and was dry. This is very much a been there done that place.
We came here for Valentines Day. My cap steak was only half edible. Most of it was fat and some very tough, leathery bits. I expect this quality from a chain restaurant, not a $175 meal.
The cake desert was okay.
The peach flavored Moscow Mule was outstanding.
A nice experience with my daughters for an early Valentine's Day brunch. Our meals were tasty, but not exceptional. One daughter got the bananas foster french toast and said it was good but very sweet and the maple/brown sugar flavors did not blend well. She liked it, but would not order again. I got the steak and eggs. The filet was cooked perfectly to medium rare and nicely seasoned, but the meat was a bit difficult to chew almost as if it had been cut incorrectly. My other daughter got the power breakfast and enjoyed all of it. Both she and I really liked the parmesan potato cakes. The coffee was delicious; strong with no bitterness and very full, rich flavor.
Service was adequate, but somewhat inattentive. Restaurant was not particularly busy at noon on a Sunday, however our server took quite a while to take our orders after getting our drinks. Then he did not return to top off our drinks at all and we did not get refills until another sever brought our meals.
While the entire experience was good, it was not as high a caliber as I had been expecting and hoping to have.
We had a very poor experience at Chaz. This was our 3rd time trying the restaurant within the last year and was disappointed once again. I requested the cap ribeye with potato’s. Both The ribeye and the potato’s were cold when served. The ribeye was pre sliced which I wouldn’t have ordered if I knew that in advance. This information was not on the menu dnd the server did not mention it. The other couple ordered filets and those were cold as well. We sent the food back and 2 people were finished with their dinner before thd rest of us received our reheated dinner. When paying higher end prices for dinner the service and food should be perfect, well presented and hot! I don’t want yo wat a reheated steak and definitely not card board potatos. We have dined at Chaz a lot over the years but due to our most recent experiences we will not return.
Enjoyed the delicious food and entertainment by The Cynthia VanRoden Trio . My only complaint is that I made my reservation through Open Table and the restaurant put me down as a “no show”. Now I’m not in good standing with Open Table. I gave my name upon arrival . It was verified then that I had a reservation.
Very disappointed. Steak menu item actually told you up front if you want a good steak have to pay $15 more. Steak tough and very grisly. Pork shank very good, but risotto very mushy, overcooked and flavorless. Potatoes with steak said 'herbs', saw green, but absolutely no flavor. Carrot cake excellent. Live music provided a nice ambiance. Service staff very attentive.
Great restaurant! We tried out Chaz on the Plaza as part of Kansas City's 2018 Restaurant Week, and we were not disappointed. Friendly service, great food, good ambiance, plus live jazz music. Overall great experience. We will definitely be returning in the future to try out their brunch menu.
A small group of my friends and I visited Chaz for restaurant week. The portions were extremely small, as in maybe 6 pieces of lettuce for our "salad". I understand smaller portions for restaurant week but this was embarrassing. Our waiter was okay but seemed to do the bare minimum.
With that being said, the ambiance was amazing. Beautiful space and live music playing.
This was a restaurant week experience. The atmosphere was very nice. Wood paneling throughout, looks very comfortable and is quiet. Great place to have a fun conversation while dining. The desert was great although the main course (we both had pork shanks) was a little bland. Good enough to venture out and try again as we choose from the full menu.
We came in last Thursday to join friends for a bite to eat. We ordered off the restuarabt week menu and weee very excited to try everything because none us had ever been to Chaz....and we will never go back. We are two young couples and the server’s approach to the table seemed condescending and unwelcoming. Our money spends just as well as everyone else’s. Additionally, we ordered the bistro filet from the RW menu and it was terrible. Not even edible. The point of restaurant week is to draw in new clientele that normally wouldn’t go to your restaurant, so why would you use steak shoulder, advertise it as filet, and then say actually the “real” filet is an up charge. Not a good look for the restaurant and I hope that they can begin to take ALL of their customers seriously and not participate in restaurant week if they don’t want to lose the money on food to gain new business. Horrible.
The food was great... but the portions quite small. We tried out Chaz for a date night. The atmosphere was really cool and intimate with live music, and the cocktails were inventive and delicious. The only downside was that I'd like to say I left full from my entree, but that was actually thanks to my (much larger) dessert.
Sadly, the past two dining experiences have been very mediocre. Food not fresh and not like it was formerly. Meat entrees tough and not edibld. Is there a new Chef? We love the ambiance. The jazz. The food has deminished in quality the past year. Chaz is my favorite ambiance and I really hope the food quality improves. It formerly was stellar.
The opentable system messed up our reservation and moved it from 12:15-1:30. It was quite the debacle at the restaurant with the hostess on the phone but the manager quickly fixed the issue and sat us. I am not sure why there was a problem as there were plenty of empty tables. The food was ok- nothing exciting. We went for restaurant week and ordered the pork shank. It was warm at best- the risotto was delicious though- the winter green salad was nothing more than spinach and some sparce toppings. I am happy to have experienced it but more than likely I won’t return.
Went with a group for Restaurant Week. The food selections were good - I had the Winter Salad and Filet. But the service was honestly sub par. The place wasn't very full, yet they had to make last minute table accommodations for us. We ordered, and the salads took forever to come out. When the first course did arrive, we had no silverware or napkins. Silverware was eventually brought, but we had to ask for napkins again. In general, the service was slow and it almost felt as if they hadn't expected us and a server from a different area of the restaurant was taking care of us. You would think during a week when people are trying out places they might not usually eat at, that they would be better prepared.
Extremely disappointed. Food was not good at all. It was restaurant week in Kc so we thought a great time to try this restaurant. Why would you showcase your restaurant by making cheap entrees that are not even on your normal menu?? Just don't participate in the event! We will never go back.
We went for lunch for restaurant week. We had reservations but were a little early and still had to wait past our reservation time to be seated. We were told that since our reservation was for 2 and we had our toddler, under the age of two, with us, they had to reconfigure where we sat. (We were sat at a normal table for 2, so not sure what that was about, except maybe they were just not happy we had a toddler with us.) I ordered the shrimp cocktail and swordfish and my husband ordered the poached pear salad and 4oz filet. The shrimp was fine, except were laid on a bed of greens that weren't dressed, so the greens were inedible. My husband's salad was a typical poached pear and greens salad. My swordfish did not taste good. The puttanesca was fine, but the swordfish itself was dry and old tasting. Very disappointing. My husband's filet was chewy, but the sauce that came with it was good. My husband also had to wait until after we were done with our meal to get a refill on his iced tea. In a nutshell, we did not feel welcomed, there was a lack of service at the table, and the food was very mediocre. Not sure why this restaurant participated in restaurant week. It didn't do them any favors.
Most everything is awesome during Restaurant Week .... BUT ... service was not as attentive as usual. I've never been asked if the first course was as expected BEFORE being delivered. Then, waited so long for a soup spoon that the soup became cold. I was surprised that the soup was returned heated in a microwave. Subpar service, but still delicious, and the ambience worth overlooking the waiter's inattention.
