Chaz on the Plaza
This was my first time on a Saturday morning. All previous experiences have been weekdays. Always great experience. What I and my guest chose was, of course, beautifully presented and delicious. What great food -- always! (Although this time I was a little disappointed that both soup options involved seafood which I cannot eat for medical reasons. Previous soups I've enjoyed were amazing. I was also surprised that my expressed preference for a table or booth on the side nearer Ward Pkwy could not be accommodated (where weekdays I have always been seated) since I did not see many tables there occupied, but perhaps the Saturday server arrangements did not make this possible. Chaz is my favorite place for lunch as it is quiet enough to have a conversation and the service is always wonderfully and appropriately attentive.
We love Chaz. Great food, staff, and atmosphere.
Thanks for the kind words!
Think “old school” ... steak Diane, crab Wellington, martinis and listening to live music. It is loud but festive. Food is good. The truffle deviled eggs are to die for!
Thanks Kim, we appreciate you taking the time to leave your thoughts. We like to make classic drinks and dishes with a modern sensibility. We hope to see you again soon!
always get Richard for your server. He s excellent
Thanks keiths, we'll share this with Richard!
My husband Brandon and I went to the Chaz for our anniversary and were blown away by the cuisine, service and overall ambiance. We will definitely be back and are recommending to our friends and family!
The food and service were both outstanding. Three of us ordered the Filet steak and all agreed it was the best we have ever had. The duck and waffles was a new dish for one to try and was also pronounced excellent. We had the Chocolate mouse and Key lime tortes to share for dessert and had to order a second round. We loved the ambience, excellent service, the low noise level, and the table situated in an alcove for privacy. We would definitely recommend Chaz on the Plaza.
Always great! Very busy, sometimes it was a little slow. The food was great.
Hello Jeanie, thanks for joining us and leaving your thoughts.
Small house, live music, interesting menu (appetizers were great). For a couple, several appetizers and slitting a main dish would be an option. Portions appropriate. Nice staff, all eager to help. Valet parking by gentlemen
Decent food, nothing outstanding. Plaza is losing it's charm.
Hello KentR, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your visit. We want every guests' visit to be outstanding, and I'm sorry you did not experience that. If you would be able to provide me with some details about your visit we would appreciate the chance to fix the issues you experienced. Thanks again.
Excellent romantic restaurant. Everything was perfect!
Thanks for celebrating with us, CurtM, we're glad you enjoyed it.
Bland boring food that is not a good value for the price. Service was slow but friendly; however, server was not knowledgeable and had to check on things when there were questions. Ambience is nice. There was live jazz music while we were there and the set up of tables is pleasant and makes for semi-private conversations.
Hello myhomezoo, while we're glad to see you enjoyed the atmosphere, I'm sorry to see you did not enjoy the food. If you would be willing to let me know some details about what you didn't care for we would appreciate the chance to improve what we do. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
I was really looking forward to celebrating my 12 year anniversary with a nice meal at a new place, but unfortunately, we were underwhelmed and very disappointed. We had never been so this was our first experience. The ambiance was outdated, but nice and clean and there was a decent musician playing, although we were seated out of view of it. Our waitress was very good and nice, but almost too intrusive reaching across the table to get every spoon and fork with each course and bowing to us each time. It was a little much. The bread was not very good, the salads were fine, but nothing special and lacked excitement, the lobster bisque was good, but too rich to even finish half and we think lead to upset stomachs. My husband had the burger and asked for a medium cook, it was well-done and didn't even come with lettuce, tomato, pickles or onions. I ordered the steak dianne with a medium cook and it was overdone as well, not seasoned and charred to taste burnt and chewy, potatoes and spinach were under seasoned and just blah. The old fashioned drink was good and that was about it. We were very disappointed spending so much on a meal that was not good. Unfortunately, we will not be back and can't recommend.
Hello JasonC, thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that your experience did not reflect what we try to provide for all of our guests. If you would care to reply I would love the chance to follow up with you about your visit. Thank you,
Excellent service, delicious food, and beautiful music!
Very pleasant and upscale dining. Live Jazz weekend evenings. It’s not the least expensive option around, but worth it in my opinion.
Professional staff, made to feel welcome. Live music was most enjoyable.
Wonderful meal and spectacular service. Our waiter was truly top notch
Thank you, Jfkdk. Glad to hear you enjoyed it and we look forward to serving you again soon.
The food was good but I would say for what we paid it could have been better. Our server was fantastic, the manager was very hospitable and really made us feel welcomed. It was very quiet in the restaurant which is fine but I felt as though I was jn the people’s conversation next to us. Over all we did have a good experience and enjoyed our dinner
Thank you for your comments, Anonymous. We work hard to produce the highest quality dishes, so I'm sorry to read that you felt they could have been better. If you can provide us with some details we would be grateful for the chance to follow up with you and see possible areas of improvement. Thank you for joining us and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again.
I have been a fan, but it’s been about 2 years since I had dinner there. The menu was not nearly as good as the past and the quality of food was very disappointing. The bread was stale, the salad was wilted, and the steak was tough and lacked flavor beyond too much salt. The wine list was very limited and also didn’t have good price point choices. The only redeeming part of the evening was great music in the lounge.
Hello Dinerbob, thank you for your feedback. We strive to provide every guest with an exceptional experience, and clearly we missed the mark on your visit. We work with our suppliers to get multiple deliveries each week (some items, like bread, daily), so it's disappointing that you did not experience the quality we should be providing. If you would be able to contact us we would like to follow up with you. We hope to be able to provide you with the experience which reflects our standards.
The atmosphere was nice. The portions were a little light for the price and the calamari tasted as if it were premade and frozen, and not fresh. We ran out of tea a couple times and our server seemed a bit timid to come to the table unless flagged down.
Hello BrianJ, thanks for the review. We're glad you enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Portion size is something we work on to minimize waste and provide a good value, but we rely on feedback like yours to help us determine what will be best for our guests. As for the calamari, we work with our suppliers to get fresh deliveries several times a week so I'm sorry it tasted that way to you. We'll share your feedback with our chef and suppliers to make sure we're getting the quality we expect.
There is a new chef at the Chaz, and the creations were wonderful.
Thanks GusM, we'll share your comment with Chef Shawn. Shawn has created many great new dishes, and the new Pours & Plates menu gives him and our guests a fun way to try new dishes every month. We hope to see you again soon.
Great salmon , steak -good wines and martinis
Thanks Sungirl97, we look forward to serving you again.
Amazing! The food, service, atmosphere, everything - perfection. The Chaz is perfect for a date night, birthday, anniversary, or just a special night out.
Thanks MelissH, we do our best to make every night special!
Food is way overpriced for the quality.
Hello Anonymous, Thank you for letting us know your thoughts. We work with local and national vendors to find top quality ingredients and our chefs work hard to create some of the best dishes in the city, so I'm sorry to hear that they did not meet your expectations. If you would be able to provide me with more details of your experience I would be grateful for the chance to learn how we could make your next visit outstanding. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
We dined here on a recent Friday night. We hadn't been in a while, but noticed the menu had changed and we also wanted to hear some live music. We had a very enjoyable evening. I had one of the best Manhattans i'd had in a while. The soup of the day was roasted red pepper florentine and it was delicious. I offered my companion a taste and he loved it too. I had the crab wellington and he had scallops and we split bread pudding for dessert, enjoying every morsel. Service was excellent. We were able to listen to live music, because we were seated behind the bar as requested. That allowed for conversation as well as hearing the music. They valet park if that matters to you.
Thanks nonickname, glad to hear about your visit. We're quite fond of the Manhattans as well! Hope to see you again soon.
Attended a wine dinner which was wonderful. The food was excellent and the wine pairings were very nice. Service was outstanding.
Thanks KCCouple, so glad you enjoyed the wine dinner. We love putting these together and getting to experiment with new ideas. Hope to see you again soon.
We stayed at the Raphael and met friends at The Chaz for drinks and dinner. The Mengel Brothers were playing live music which was fun, entertaining and not too loud. Our server was excellent, the drinks were well-crafted, the food was perfectly prepared. We had the Crab Wellington, Steak Diane, and Chicken Cordon Bleu. It was all very, very good. (And very expensive! But worth it as a special evening out). Can't wait to go back!
Thanks AaronB, we love to hear about your visit and look forward to seeing you again.
We had an excellent dining experience at Chaz. The food and service couldn't hsve been better! (Their lamb chop special was absolutely delicious! Wish it was on their regular menu!)
Thanks SandyT, we're so glad you had a great time. We'll definitely talk to the chef about his Lamb Special.
It was great! Also loved the music!
The food was amazing! Will not disappoint. Highly recommend for a more romantic vibe.
Thanks SarahL, it's great to hear you enjoyed your visit. We hope to see you again soon.
One of our favorite places to eat when we are in Kansas City.
My wife and I went to The Chaz for our 20th Wedding Anniversary as part of a package at The Raphael Hotel. The dinner and hotel package was an absolute delight. Classy! The chef tailored a meal for my vegetarian wife who absolutely loved it! My steak was fabulous! I highly recommend The Chaz!
Whether celebrating anniversary, birthday, or just a new puppy, in the twenty-two years we have been enjoying Chaz on the Plaza, we have never been disappointed. Our waiter, Oscar, was charming and knowledgeable. The staff were seemingly all informed that it was Stacy's birthday. Once again, a fabulous experience! Thank you Chaz!
Had a lovely birthday dinner with my husband. He had the Seabass and I had the blue crab stuffed pastry while listening to wonderful jazz. Very pleasant evening.
This restaurant is an absolute gem. The ambiance, service, and character are elegant, and the jazz music in the background was exquisite. The food is beyond reproach.
We had a nice dinner because the ambiance was cozy and the service was good. We might have ordered the wrong dishes, so will try them again. But I believe that a restaurant should be SURE all dishes are tasty. I had duck over waffles. The duck was okay but the waffles were mushy and tasteless. My husband ordered an appetizer thing because he wasn't hungry. It was awful. Waiters should steer people away from below average choices. Better yet. Fix them!!!
This is the only restaurant I've ever been to that, if I owned it, I wouldn't change a single thing. The food is incredible, the service is the best in Kansas City, wonderful ambiance, great location and classy live music. And even though it's upscale dining, you can dress casually and not feel out of place.
Took our granddaughter to dinner for her birthday. Our server was Cassandra and she was WONDERFUL! Food was excellent and we had a very nice wine with our dinner while our little guest had Shirley Temples (and they were really good too - I tasted it!). We had lovely seating in a booth where we could hear the music but it was not overpowering. Some excellent new menu items. I had the “Shulshee” which is made with grapefruit and rose wine - it’s served as a popsicle and it was just delightful!
The food was delicious...every thing from appetizer to desserts. Service could not have been better. We wanted a place we had never been before for out 50th anniversary...this was it. I highly recommend it.
As usual, we had a wonderful evening enjoying cocktails and live jazz at Chaz on the Plaza. This was our first time dinning and our appetizer, dinners, and dessert were all incredibly delicious. Thanks to the staff at Chaz on the Plaza for making me feel extra special on my birthday!
It was our anniversary which I noted when making the reservation. There was no acknowledgement but that was ok because everything was so good, the food, the service, the music, everything.
