A beautiful environment : helpful knowledgeable staff . A new chef from
Japan has brought Chaya cuisine back to the glory days . Fresh fish perfect sushi good bar scene
My wife and I had an event to go to and were dressed nicely. We didn’t have plans to go our for dinner, but I suggested we take advantage of being dressed for dinner to actually go out for dinner. We scanned OpenTable for restaurants and were struggling to find an ides unit I remembered how much my wife loves Chaya Venice. We made a reservation, bought some tacos to give to our kids, and headed out. Table was ready, service was attentive and food was great. My wife raved about the chocolate croissant bread pudding for quite some time. We will certainly be back again and again.
Incredible service. Nathaniel was the best! Drinks were perfect and food very tasty. Only negative was a little noise
Great place great food great service! Thank you!
A Venice staple. Always great food, atmosphere and people!
Very disappointed! Miss the old Chaya!
Food was far far better!!
Excellent Black Cod
Worst food ever, they didn’t even get the Mac and cheese right, never go there
I wasn’t impressed with Chaya Venice. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a beautiful place with great ambiance but, personally, I don’t think food is good. I had a miso glazed black cod for dinner. It was salty. My husband had a steak. He said it’s a good quality meat but wasn’t tasty.. at least we gave it a chance. Crossing off Chaya from my list.
Great sushi and rolls..The tasting plates were also good..Beer selection excellent..only drawback was that the icecream in the hot fudge sunday was not of the better selection, seemed refrozen..otherwise very good dinner...
We had a wonderful time here. The only small issue was that we didn’t get seated at the time of our reservation. We asked for a particular area and to no fault of the restaurant, the people who looked as if they were leaving took an extra half hour. We were fine though and actually saved a little money by having cocktails at the bar vs our table since the bar had happy hour! The food was amazing! We tried a bunch of different things. The pork belly and the Paella we my favorite part of dinner but the bread pudding for desert was AMAZING!!! So much more on the menu to explore. Our son wanted clams and unfortunately there were none on the menu but the manager quickly reacted and had some made since they have them in stock for the paella. I think he was trying to make us happy after the long wait, but that’s exactly what any good business should do so great job!! For 4 adults and one hungry child (8), our bill was $200 which I personally thought was great considering all the dishes we ordered. I will be back soon and recommend you to visit!
My husband and I have been going to Chaya for at least 15 years. I always told my friends that this was my number 1 restaurant. But alas no longer. The menu has changed substantially. The appetizers have changed also. One of my favorites fried calamari is no longer the same. It tastes liked fried onion rings. I’m sorry but I don’t think I’ll be back.
This has been my go to restaurant for 21 years in Venice. Not only reliable but I think my last visit was the best ever. Excellent food and service.
I took two friends from out of town. I had not been there for many years. Everything, especially the food, was better than I remembered.
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful meal for Valentines Day. Robert was our server and it was a busy night. We got lost in conversation and another course would appear. We were not in a hurry. Finally the dessert showed up late, we were still not unhappy. The atmosphere, food and the very well trained staff made for a very good evening. The staff apologized for delaying even comping a meal, we had not uttered a complaint. They were very apologetic and nice welcoming us back again. We will definitely be coming back.
Went for Valentine's Day and unfortunately their service was definitely not up to par. The kitchen definitely didn't have a handle on the volume. Issues in planning perhaps....steak came out Luke warm and had to be sent back. Came back Luke warm again. Didn't bother sending back again. Waiter was good and tried his best but problem was in the kitchen.
Terrible service. Slow to bring drinks, food. Didn’t refill water, didn’t ask if we wanted more drinks. Asked twice for check. Meals and drinks were very slow. Wouldn’t recommend for any occasion.
We met friends on a Monday night, so the restaurant was quiet. Staff was very friendly and efficient. The food, not memorable. I don't feel we need to go back to Chaya. We all thought the portions were not very generous, and that the found was nothing out of the ordinary, yet the prices were very high. The best dish was the paella probably, but again it was really a small amount of food for $38.00.
I loved this restaurant for over 20 years but they changed the menu and chef in the last couple of months and I do not think it works any more as a wonderful staple you can always go to. No healthy non fried veggies, no simple chicken and only one fish option as a main course. I would love to see their old menu back.
Unfortunately, the new concept just is not working out. We used to eat there all the time. Gave up on it two years ago when they switched concept and the food went down hill. Tried again this past weekend. Just as disappointing. Too bad. It is one of those situation when the menu items descriptions look so good and just does not taste so good. It is not awful, but it is definitely not good.
Best Japanese fusion restaurant I've ever visited! Great food, service and ambient.
I will definitely come back again and again for sure!
Unfortunately this restaurant has changed hands and is no longer the same Chaya Venice that we have known and loved for 15 years.
Different menu, redesign and pretty awful food. We were charged twice for two items, which they finally removed. We had 4 glasses of wine in total and the bill “only” came to $500.000. On the way home my husband and I both said to each other what an unfortunate and embarrassing experience to occur in front of special clients who are real “foodies”
Always worth the drive from Westlake Village. Great service and I love the eclectic style of food on the menu. GREAT cocktails too!
All staff members were super sweet and caring, they kept checking in with us to make sure we were happy with big smiles.
Food and staff were amazing! The wine selection and white Sangria was superb! Marsha was a super server with a sweet hospitable demeanor! I would most definitely visit again they had the tastiest yellowtail and some very unique menu items! Highly recommend!
I still hope they can offer fresh whole fish service everyday.
Amazing menu - food is unique and tasty. Service was outstanding - waiter took his time to explain menu items and made excellent recommendations.
I eat here with clients for lunch several times a year and it NEVER disappoints!! Food is always beautifully plated and of top quality/taste. Service is always attentive. A true gem!!
We have been coming to Chaya for many, many years. We were a party of 6, with one 4 year old. It was Sunday night before MLK holiday. Our waiter has only been with Chaya for 1 month. The service was slow. We are spoiled and used to our OVER THE TOP SERVICE here. Missing all of our favorite people, where did you all go??? Two of us ate the flat iron steak, T-bone unavailable. It was great! Scallop risotto very good. Sushi/Sashimi, very good. Everyone was trying to help each other out with the short amount of wait staff.
It was a delicious meal and perfect for what we wanted.
The happy hour cocktails and bites were great. some items like a grilled octopus salad were tastier on the happy hour menu than the regular menu. We tried oysters, grilled calamari, sushi. All were good. The two items that were a total miss were two sides: organic grilled mushrooms and shishito peppers. The peppers were mostly too hot. Usually they are more flavorful and less spicy. And mushrooms were absolutely tasteless, as if the chef forgot to add any condiments to them. Overall, I enjoyed the place. It had a nice decor and cozy atmosphere.
Consistently good food with a comfortable atmosphere
The food and service were good, the ambience was a little strange due to the bar being next to restaurant. I think there should be some seperation from the casual bar playing sports and the formal dining space.
DineLA menu was fantastic. Would definitely return
Excellent service and delicious food--great flavors, fresh ingredients--in a beautiful physical space. The overall vibe was awesome, too. All this plus easy parking made the entire experience wonderful.
Went day before New Year's Eve. All of the food was dry/overcooked. Inadequate portions for the price and noise. Disappointed. We had a nice experience here before the remodel, but won't be coming back after this experience.
Great food and atmosphere, but what I want to highlight here is their service and how they value customer's experience. I ordered the Angus steak, but we had waited for ~20 mins due to some miscommunication with the restaurant. After being noticed, the general manager responded nicely and quickly to us and treated us the steak as well as chef's special dessert. Sometime mistake could happen, but their timely and genuine apology successfully made up our dining experience.
My boyfriend and I had our Christmas Eve dinner here. Great food and service. Loved the remodeled dining area. Will definitely be back soon!
I had a very attentive waiter. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, the drink runner brought me the wrong sake, and the food runner plopped the seafood kaisen platter on my table without any mention of what the different seafood components were. The nicest seafood pieces were over powered by some acidic sauce or other; the tuna tartare mushy and boring. Overall, a disappointment. But my waiter was very attentive.
Way too loud due to Holiday Party at the bar. Music too loud etc
