We have been coming to Chaya for many, many years. We were a party of 6, with one 4 year old. It was Sunday night before MLK holiday. Our waiter has only been with Chaya for 1 month. The service was slow. We are spoiled and used to our OVER THE TOP SERVICE here. Missing all of our favorite people, where did you all go??? Two of us ate the flat iron steak, T-bone unavailable. It was great! Scallop risotto very good. Sushi/Sashimi, very good. Everyone was trying to help each other out with the short amount of wait staff.

The happy hour cocktails and bites were great. some items like a grilled octopus salad were tastier on the happy hour menu than the regular menu. We tried oysters, grilled calamari, sushi. All were good. The two items that were a total miss were two sides: organic grilled mushrooms and shishito peppers. The peppers were mostly too hot. Usually they are more flavorful and less spicy. And mushrooms were absolutely tasteless, as if the chef forgot to add any condiments to them. Overall, I enjoyed the place. It had a nice decor and cozy atmosphere.

The food and service were good, the ambience was a little strange due to the bar being next to restaurant. I think there should be some seperation from the casual bar playing sports and the formal dining space.

Excellent service and delicious food--great flavors, fresh ingredients--in a beautiful physical space. The overall vibe was awesome, too. All this plus easy parking made the entire experience wonderful.

Went day before New Year's Eve. All of the food was dry/overcooked. Inadequate portions for the price and noise. Disappointed. We had a nice experience here before the remodel, but won't be coming back after this experience.

Great food and atmosphere, but what I want to highlight here is their service and how they value customer's experience. I ordered the Angus steak, but we had waited for ~20 mins due to some miscommunication with the restaurant. After being noticed, the general manager responded nicely and quickly to us and treated us the steak as well as chef's special dessert. Sometime mistake could happen, but their timely and genuine apology successfully made up our dining experience.

I had a very attentive waiter. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, the drink runner brought me the wrong sake, and the food runner plopped the seafood kaisen platter on my table without any mention of what the different seafood components were. The nicest seafood pieces were over powered by some acidic sauce or other; the tuna tartare mushy and boring. Overall, a disappointment. But my waiter was very attentive.

Bring back the old....the new ambiance is like everyone else's, the new food portions are minute, the new food is average, the new menu is sparse. Chaya has been our go-to Restaurant for years because they always had a big round table to accommodate our large family. ...
There are no big family tables, just your average barroom scene....the price point for the average food with small plates is obscene.

The online menu is quite a bit different than the menu in the restaurant. The online menu has far better pricing and a much better selection of food. When I ask the manager why did menus have changed he said several weeks ago they changed the menu in the restaurant but decided not to change the online menu. I believe the online menu is what attract people to this restaurant and then when you arrive you find that the prices are dramatically higher and the selection is different. He had no other excuses and did not offer to make my stay more pleasant. I'll never go back to that restaurant again

Another great meal at Chaya. A great place to share different dishes. Started with the lobster and steak rolls. Next came the black cod, salmon and garlic noodles. Great staff and the bar is always full.

They didn't have a table for us and said the wait could be more than 30 minutes. We were able to get a table in the bar on our own so that was great and fun. And hosts didn't seem concerned or overly apologetic. More like "that's how it is"

We had such a great night. On top of the amazing food our server, Robert, was on top of his game and made our anniversary feel pretty special and fun.
The food was so very good. The space is comfortable and lively and fun. Again, the service and treatment by all the staff was amazing.
Over our meal we talked about how we'll be returning more often.

Accommodated a last minute booking for 10 people & we all agreed a great find. Fresh ingredients & interesting mix of dishes on the menu. The sushi & sashimi was a highlight.
Good wine list & efficient service.
My dessert was a let down but others were more than happy.

Incredible space and service. The meal and drinks were fabulous. Knock out punch with the chocolate croissant bread pudding with Dulce de leche ice cream. I don't even like bread pudding!!! Our waitress, Britani was 5 star. Recommended to friends who were visiting and they went the next night.
Much aloha!

coffee machine broken and they had NO alternative; astonishing! Slow service, my cocktail took a long time to arrive, although the wait staff were nearby; I am not sure I like this place as much as I used to --- the new tables/chairs are uncomfortable; also lots of babies! The food was fine, but nothing too special...

I don't think the new concept is working. Chaya was always bustling in the past, and since the recent move away from Thai fusion to way overpriced Japanese fusion, it's pretty dead. It worked okay for my recent business lunch, since it was very quiet and we could talk. But Chaya has definitely lost the hip & happening vibe that it had in the past, and the new prices are not justified by the quality of the meals. Not likely to go back very soon!

It has been at least eight years since wife and I dined there. This was first time for lunch. Only regret is that we allowed that many years to elapse. When we arrived, server Masha figured out that I had called about half-hour before to inquire about parking. She validated our ticket even before we sat down. She provided informative, charming service throughout, as did the other staff. I believe it was the manager who stopped by during the meal to check on us also. Wife had the Chaya classic bento. I had today's teishoku special combo. Blew us away with the appearance and flavors - creative touches that really work for our taste buds. The unique beni imo (purple sweet potato) cheesecake topped off this memorable experience. Free two-hour parking in the building with restaurant validation is fantastically convenient.

This use to be a favorite restaurant for us. Haven't been back since the remodel. Was surprised at the new menu. Ordered 2 Martini's. ($38.00) Ordered the ahi tartar with avocado on a rice cake. Rice cake stuck to our teeth. No flavor. Asked for some wasabi and it was not spicy either. The waiter was great which helped. He brought us a on the house cheese plate with two little pieces of bread and some cut up over ripe mushy fruit. Our main entre arrived. We split the entre. Two pieces of chicken with a little mustard sauce and a small pile of delicious french fries. ($38.00) A glass of wine. Bill was $115.00 not enclosing tip. Service was great but won't be back.

Have to say, miss the old Chaya Venice. We've eaten there for 25 years and was looking forward to our rare trip over the hill for our favorites from before. We were surprised to see the new look and menu.

Can't say it wasn't good, but not what we were expecting. Frankly, getting a little tired of the Japanese sushi scene, as well as, the small portion or tapas/sharing style. It's everywhere these days and certainly not unique.

The spicy octopus was very good, and a few other things. Waiter recommended the fries which we thought we be different given the rest of the menu, but they were plain old fries and seemed very out of place with the rest of our meal. We may have tried the whole fish option but we weren't hungry enough to justify that kind of money. Hope they make some moves in the menu back to what kept them in business for as long as they've been there.

Arrived around 6:15 pm; quiet then got noisier as the evening progressed. Still, great ambiance in a beautiful restaurant. And the food matched the ambiance.
The 4 of us enjoyed the $55 seafood platter and then had a yellowfin tuna part sashimi, part sushi and part grilled. Added two fabulous desserts - banana, banana and banana, and bread pudding croissant. Lots of food; including tip it was $278 per couple, but did not feel it was overpriced for what we had.
Will return for special occasions.
