Chaya Venice Ratings and Reviews
We met friends on a Monday night, so the restaurant was quiet. Staff was very friendly and efficient. The food, not memorable. I don't feel we need to go back to Chaya. We all thought the portions were not very generous, and that the found was nothing out of the ordinary, yet the prices were very high. The best dish was the paella probably, but again it was really a small amount of food for $38.00.
I loved this restaurant for over 20 years but they changed the menu and chef in the last couple of months and I do not think it works any more as a wonderful staple you can always go to. No healthy non fried veggies, no simple chicken and only one fish option as a main course. I would love to see their old menu back.
Unfortunately, the new concept just is not working out. We used to eat there all the time. Gave up on it two years ago when they switched concept and the food went down hill. Tried again this past weekend. Just as disappointing. Too bad. It is one of those situation when the menu items descriptions look so good and just does not taste so good. It is not awful, but it is definitely not good.
Unfortunately this restaurant has changed hands and is no longer the same Chaya Venice that we have known and loved for 15 years.
Different menu, redesign and pretty awful food. We were charged twice for two items, which they finally removed. We had 4 glasses of wine in total and the bill “only” came to $500.000. On the way home my husband and I both said to each other what an unfortunate and embarrassing experience to occur in front of special clients who are real “foodies”
Food and staff were amazing! The wine selection and white Sangria was superb! Marsha was a super server with a sweet hospitable demeanor! I would most definitely visit again they had the tastiest yellowtail and some very unique menu items! Highly recommend!
We have been coming to Chaya for many, many years. We were a party of 6, with one 4 year old. It was Sunday night before MLK holiday. Our waiter has only been with Chaya for 1 month. The service was slow. We are spoiled and used to our OVER THE TOP SERVICE here. Missing all of our favorite people, where did you all go??? Two of us ate the flat iron steak, T-bone unavailable. It was great! Scallop risotto very good. Sushi/Sashimi, very good. Everyone was trying to help each other out with the short amount of wait staff.
The happy hour cocktails and bites were great. some items like a grilled octopus salad were tastier on the happy hour menu than the regular menu. We tried oysters, grilled calamari, sushi. All were good. The two items that were a total miss were two sides: organic grilled mushrooms and shishito peppers. The peppers were mostly too hot. Usually they are more flavorful and less spicy. And mushrooms were absolutely tasteless, as if the chef forgot to add any condiments to them. Overall, I enjoyed the place. It had a nice decor and cozy atmosphere.
Great food and atmosphere, but what I want to highlight here is their service and how they value customer's experience. I ordered the Angus steak, but we had waited for ~20 mins due to some miscommunication with the restaurant. After being noticed, the general manager responded nicely and quickly to us and treated us the steak as well as chef's special dessert. Sometime mistake could happen, but their timely and genuine apology successfully made up our dining experience.
I had a very attentive waiter. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, the drink runner brought me the wrong sake, and the food runner plopped the seafood kaisen platter on my table without any mention of what the different seafood components were. The nicest seafood pieces were over powered by some acidic sauce or other; the tuna tartare mushy and boring. Overall, a disappointment. But my waiter was very attentive.
Bring back the old....the new ambiance is like everyone else's, the new food portions are minute, the new food is average, the new menu is sparse. Chaya has been our go-to Restaurant for years because they always had a big round table to accommodate our large family. ...
There are no big family tables, just your average barroom scene....the price point for the average food with small plates is obscene.
The online menu is quite a bit different than the menu in the restaurant. The online menu has far better pricing and a much better selection of food. When I ask the manager why did menus have changed he said several weeks ago they changed the menu in the restaurant but decided not to change the online menu. I believe the online menu is what attract people to this restaurant and then when you arrive you find that the prices are dramatically higher and the selection is different. He had no other excuses and did not offer to make my stay more pleasant. I'll never go back to that restaurant again
We had such a great night. On top of the amazing food our server, Robert, was on top of his game and made our anniversary feel pretty special and fun.
The food was so very good. The space is comfortable and lively and fun. Again, the service and treatment by all the staff was amazing.
Over our meal we talked about how we'll be returning more often.
Accommodated a last minute booking for 10 people & we all agreed a great find. Fresh ingredients & interesting mix of dishes on the menu. The sushi & sashimi was a highlight.
Good wine list & efficient service.
My dessert was a let down but others were more than happy.
Incredible space and service. The meal and drinks were fabulous. Knock out punch with the chocolate croissant bread pudding with Dulce de leche ice cream. I don't even like bread pudding!!! Our waitress, Britani was 5 star. Recommended to friends who were visiting and they went the next night.
