Chaya continues to be the best restaurant in all of Los Angeles! The food, and the people are incredible!!
Our server Jake was wonderful, attentive, and efficient.
The Easter brunch was a disappointment. We arrived at 2 pm. The brunch was scheduled to end at 2:30. The seafood station was terrific and replenished. However, the Grill station had nothing to offer. Finally after inquiring, steak was prepared. It was raw inside - not edible. There were no crab legs. The other hot entrees were lukewarm. The dessert table was fine. Our waiter apologized and tried to accommodate our group.
I’ve had excellent dinners here in the past. Don’t know what happened.
We went for the Easter Brunch. The food was good, but pretty unorganized. Every time I went up to the lobster/steak station, I had to wait 5-10 minutes (one time it was closer to 15-20 minutes). This happened EVERY time - because they weren't producing enough food for the demand. Multiple times they would put only 6 lobster tails on the plate for the buffet before cooking more. Obviously that would go quickly. Overall, I recommend the restaurant. The parking on the other hand is why I will not be returning to Chaya.
Chaya validated parking for the valet in the building's parking garage. After getting validated at Chaya, the valet still told me that I owe an additional $5, and that I should give him cash rather than the valet attendant that he said was waiting at the garage exit because he only accepts cards. So I gave him the $5 parking fee, in addition to a tip, only to find out that no one was at the exit. He scammed me into an extra $5.
It was an Easter get together and the brunch they served was very good. We had an idea that they will stack tables for the people coming in so we were early and had a great time before the place was packed. Their grill - omelette stand was divine, they served grilled american wagyu and lobster tails. The only downside for the grill-omelette stand was that they only had one line. It would have been better if they had a line each for the grilled food and omelette. Their salad and hot food were great. They had a great selection of desserts but it was the cheesecake with Yuzu that I had to go back for seconds. Overall, food was great, service was good.
We went to celebrate a friends birthday. We had a good time and the sushi was very good! The samurai bento box is a definite must have!
We had the Red Snapper full fish. We were able to Sashimi half the fish and then steam cook the other half. The sashimi was by far the most fresh, tender, tasteful fish I have ever eaten, and I eat a ton of sushi and sashimi. It MELTED in your mouth. The stemed fish as soo goood, they gave us the head (cheek meat) and this as the most flavorful. The presentation was exquisite and the food - OMG! Go there, eat there and relax. It is not $ but $$ and worth every penny.
Brought my fiance here for our anniversary. I had great reviews about this restaurant, but, we were both taken away by the warm service from the waiters to the chef. We ordered the calamari for appetizer, and it was amazingly tender. Our first shared main courses was lobster ravioli, the sauce paired well with the ravioli which kept the dish light, but filling. The second dish was Sashimi. Wow, fish cuts were not fishy (like some places) and refreshing to the palate. Finally, because it was our anniversary, chef surprised us with most airy wonderful chocolate and macadamia cookies.
Wait service was excellent! Everyone working there is attentaitve. We had lobster ravioli and shrimp salad, both delicious. My friend had to step away for 10 minutes and the manager took my plate back to stay heated until she returned. Noise level was moderate. We were there on a Friday for lunch before the holiday weekend, was not jam packed. Yes, dine here if considering between the adjacent restaurants.
Disappointing as it is only 1 block from my office. Filet Mignon was very tough, black cod only ok. Would not re-visit.
Came here on Valentine's day, had to wait an hour in line even though we had a reservation. The sushi was bad, but the filet mignon was pretty good. Not worth the $172 bill though!
Made a reservation for 8:45 waited, came to see about 40 people who also made reservations wait in a messy "line" after waiting over half an hour and only one party ahead of us were seated we left and went eat somewhere else
Not the best first impression of this place, it was busy but you would think having a reservation would get you to avoid the wait and lines but it doesn't. There was a long check in line that took possibly 40mins to a table and no one really directed where the line should be so it started overlapping. The service was alright and the food wasn't bad. We ordered the kaarage, oysters, tuna tartar, and the wagyu donburi. The food came out slow, the only ones I recommend were the oysters and the chocolate lava cake with matcha. Overall I believe there are better places I could of chose for valentines and a better experience
We went to Chaya on Valentine’s day. We had 8:00 pm reservations. It took them 11/2 hrs to get our food. The server said that they overbooked and they were slow
In the kitchen. So many people were waiting for their food. The wait alone killed Valentine’s day. They served a prix fix menu, therefor you would think they would
Be more prepared. The food edible, but nothing special.
Great place to enjoy a night out . Server was awesome
Great service. We were stuck in traffic and were about 15-20 mins late but still honored our reservation. Great service. Our server was helpful in making sure we had a good cross section of food and helped us pick our main dish (Black bass) and guided us on the preparation style (Sake Steamed). Celebrated my parents 39 wedding anniversary. Was a nice night, with exceptional food and attentive service.
We were running lAte for a play at the Music Center and besides the food being wonderful, the staff and manager seemed to go out of their way to make sure we got to the play on time. The attention and service was all first class and made us feel very special.
came from San Diego before theatre....one of us felt ill so waiter brought her complimentary soda and bitters.....so kind and it helped....i had delicious sushi and my spouse had sushi rice.
we will return again to truly dine.....it looked fabulous...
Excellent restaurant- great ambiance, wonderful menu choices. Pricy, but you get what you pay for here. The parking underground was a little tough to find with all the surrounding construction, but nice to have.
My "go-to" choice when I am Downtown for a business lunch. Vegetarian/vegan options are rare at DTLA restaurants, so I appreciate that they are available at Chaya. I wish they would include a couple more. Love the ambiance and service. Validated parking in the building makes for easy in-and-out from DTLA. Although the cuisine is fresh and creative, I do think that Chaya is very overpriced, especially for lunch.
Our server was excellent, very attentive! And the round table for our party of 5 made conversation so much nicer. The food was, of course, wonderful, as well.
Great as always.
Food and service.
Always creative.
Was there for a client lunch, usually an hour. We were there an 1:45!! Service could have been more swift. Not enough sushi options. I ordered the curry dish, and while yes it was hot and had good ingredients, it did not leave me pleased. This was NOT a curry dish, yet had curry flavorings. My clients were happy, so I would try it again, but the reputation did not meet or exceed my expectations. I'll try the happy hour, which I hear is good.
Service was excellent and the food was amazing, highly recommend the Uni pasta as well as the oysters. Will be back here for sure!
I had the Kobe beef bowl which was good. I mistakenly opted for the egg well done which was disastrous for the dish. It was made for a soft boiled egg which cooks in the very hot container.
The service was lovely and the wine was good.
Spectacular food and service! We had a large group, and they served us family style, so we did not need to worry about what to order, and shared lots of great dishes. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the variety.
They were kind enough to honor a gift certificate that had a holiday restriction. But we’re not willing to honor the entire amount. They charge an extra fee for employee medical insurance which I find it insulting why not just raise the meal price rather than burry it in taxes which it is not....
I must have hit an off day at Chaya. The food is usually good but, I was disappointed today.
Service and food were outstanding. It was a birthday dinner with family attend. They addressed all dietary needs for our table.
I visited for Xmas lunch with some coworkers and we enjoyed the flavourful, healthy food. Two people had fish (black cod and salmon) and we were impressed at the flavor, and also it was not fishy (as is sometimes the case at restaurants). I had the bento box, which was just the right portions to allow a sample of salmon (very tasty and cooked just right), chicken, California roll and a nice salad. We also started with calamari for appetizer which was nice and lightly battered, and also tasty. The bread was warm and the (real) butter made it even more enjoyable. The waiter was very helpful on recommending selections, how the item was prepared, and the quantity of food, as appropriate. We all agreed it was a good selection and we will return.
Bento box lunches are always a hit! Service was solid as always. Great place for business lunches, dinners, and happy hour
We have been to the resturant many times prior to going to a show or the Music Center.
We love the food preperation and come for the fresh fish .
However the service has become terrible. The word slow would be a compliment.Ignored would best describe our evening .With a known time deadine the meal became an anxiety attack for the table.
THis is the second Consectutive time this type of lack of service was cast upon us.What a shame to punish the good preperation and good tastes to tastless service!
My former boss and I were meeting for lunch and believe or not I had NEVER been to Chaya. He loves sushi, I love sushi so we ordered 2 tuna tuna tuna suchi plates. EXCELLENT! We made an agreement to dine here again next year! Thank you, and I have to say that even though there is "noise" it never EVER impeded our conversing--nice job!!! Thank you, Jamie Gong and Blake Murillo
It was delicious and the server was delightful. The parking was free and valet was too..Oysters at happy hour 1.00! Yummy drink 5.00...food smashing
The salad, meat plates are Small portions. Even though it says small medium or large they are all rather small.
Good experience overall. I’d go back.
Did you know that tuna tartare was invented at Chaya Brasserie? I'm not a big fan of Asian Fusion cuisines but I love the food here; excellent quality and flavor. They serve sustainable fish line-caught from Japan. Also, great cocktails.
Excellent lunch venue in DTLA, especially for business lunch! Food as always, never dissapoints!
It’s our go-to for the Music Center
Food is always outstanding
The sushi was great, especially the salmon and yellowtail sashimi. Didn't really try anything else.
