Had a chance to catch up with my sister while I was in San Fran on business. We came here. They were a little too packed to be comfortable but I sometimes like that kind of energy. I have been to the Chaya in LA several times but this was my first time here. I had a tuna tartare for an app. It tasted great but wasn't really a tartare to me. The tuna pieces were pretty big. If they would of called it something else I would of have no complains. Still good though. We did a mix of sushi for our entree. That was great. Nice view of the bay if you're outside or by the window. I would go again.

I love the relaxed feel of this place - dark, small and cozy – like a comfortable living room. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The Rainbow Sashimi was amazing for us. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.

The food was good as always. The only thing that was not pleasent was the hostest: she was not polite to us. We did dinner reservation for 7:00 pm on Saturday. We asked ahead of time to get a table by the window. That day in the morning we got a call from the resturant to confirm our reservation. When we got there on time she didn't want us to get a table at that moment because she said that there was another couple that will be there few minutes later and because they will be celebrate an aniversary she doesn't want to give the table for us, even though we came few minutes before they were suppose to be there. This is not the first time we come to Chaya but this was not a nice attetude we got from her and she was not acting proffessional.

Haven't been to Chaya in three years, since we moved away from the Bay Area. What a disappointment it was. Food was mediocre at best. Everything needed salt for every entree at our table---ugh. Won't be going back.

This was our first time dinning on a Friday night. Very loud and energetic. The service staff was literally running to take care of all their guests. We arrived at 7pm it did not tone down until 9pm.

It's been a while since I've been to Chaya's ... I treated my sister to dinner for her birthday and the experience was beyond her expectations. The food and service were top notch. Our favorite was the Kobe Beef Sushi Roll - the mix of flavors and textures were amazing ... a prime example of the Chef's creativity!

We were in town to celebrate our anniversary and Chaya took great care of us. They had a table ready for us when we arrived which was near the bar - it was not the best spot - but unexpectedly the maitre d' moved us to a great table by the window without our even asking. That gave us a fantastic view of the bay and the bridge and the lively street scene. Service was attentive and engaging throughout the evening. The food was fantastic. it's not as dressy a place as the photos and write-up had suggested, so we felt slightly overdressed - though there were a few other couples there who were also in coat/tie and dresses. Most of the crowd was much more casual.

All was excellent and quite tasty. Only small minus was the Halibut.Even though it was a pretty and tasty dish, the fish was slightly overcooked. Shame ! The salmon however was done to perfection.

Normally I like Chaya a lot - have been there multiple times. We went to lunch, both of us were working and had to get back to work. The reservation was at 11:30 -not noon,so we could get in and out/ We wailted for half an hour (or maybe 35 minutes - way too long) for our food to arrive (one Bento and one sushi order) after we placed our order. We had no time for coffee or dessert. The food was fine, but we can't deal with this kind of delay at lunch. Won't come back, I'm sorry to say.

Not worth the money. My ribeye was not medium rare... parts of it were but others weren't. I won't send it back because it wasn't horrible and I'm not a princess, but if I'm paying as much as I did, I expect steak to be cooked to temp.

Met a friend visiting fron Mew York there for lunch. Nice, clean, great view of waterfront and sf bay bridge. Staff was friendly and the food was good. Portions are a bit small. Try their flavored lemonades. Would go back again.

Sushi rolls were great, and sizeable enough to share among four people. Other courses were very small. Our server suggested we get the mussels since there were plenty to share, but it was the smallest bowl of mussels I'd ever been served. They were very good, though, and the leftover sauce was perfect for dipping with the bread. The salmon entree was really small, and surprisingly dry. I wouldn't order that again. But the chocolate croissant bread pudding was absolutely amazing!

Overall decent. You can tell they use high quality ingredients, and a lot of thought goes into each dish. However, the execution could be better. The seafood chowder had a nice base, but missing something. The octopus appetizer was very good. The main dishes were just OK. The cheesecake was delicious.

Recently hosted a party of six. Food, including appetizers (sushi), salads (watermelon/tomato), side dishes (brussel sprouts; cauliflower) and main courses (halibut; duck) and desserts (e.g. peach cobbler; molten chocolate/caramel) were all outstanding. Service was just right, friendly and attentive but not interrupting our conversations. Will go back soon.

On a busy Friday night in San Francisco the food and service were excellent. We were seated at our reservation time with no wait. We were not rushed and the server took her time to explain the items on the menu. The recognition of the purpose of the night, an anniversary dinner, was a nice touch at the seating and with the desert.

I came here for dinner on my birthday with my wife and 2 friends who were visiting from Italy. Overall, the service was wonderful. Our waiter was very pleasant, knowledgable about all the menu items and very helpful in our dining selections. The food was brought to us in a timely manner. Our water glasses never went empty, but were constantly filled before 1/2 empty. The manager (Jonathan) personally and warmly greeted us. We asked our waiter to call a cab, instead Jonathan offered a complimentary car service which drove us to our next destination. I strongly recommend Chaya to anyone who is looking for an amazing dining experience. We will definitely frequent this most wonderful restaurant.
