It was pretty satisfying except the server. The lady who served us gave an attitude out of nowhere. Hope this restaurant train their servers better.
Hard to beat the Chart House location overlooking the San Francisco Bay. The staff were superb. Very attentive and helpful. The food was subpar. My husband’s open face crab sandwich was soggy due to the tomato slice directly on the sourdough bread. The crab was too salty, and he likes things salted more than me! I enjoyed the crab/shrimp combo with avocado, bacon and blue cheese. It just seemed like some exotic slices of fruit or another interesting fresh vegetable could have added more flavor to the dish. It is doubtful we would return for a meal though might go to the bar which also has beautiful viewing.
Terrible food! Terrible service. Ordered a lobster roll thinking it would be fresh since we were on the Bay but it tasted like styrofoam. Waiter didn’t care and never apologized or tried to make it right. Would not recommend!
This was our second time here. First time was fantastic. This was time a different story. Food was great but we had trouble with service. She was clearly new and apologized many times for all the issues but it was frustrating to not get appetizers, wait 30 minutes for a drink, wrong food coming out.
I couldn't get the table by the window but hopefully next time I will. Overall my family and I had an amazing experience, a beautiful place to eat and spend great quality time. Love everything food, service, ambience etc.
It was the most ordinary experience. Blah ambience at night with no view. Food was ordinary. Service was ok but not extraordinary. It is simply the location that makes this place different.
I would highly recommend the Chart House. The food was delicious and service was excellent.
Was really just ok. I made mention that it was our anniversary in the reservation notes, but no one mentioned it to us. Which is fine, but doesn't contribute to a "special" night.
Waitress didn't know what Basil Hayden's was. Seemed like she was new, and we're patient diners, so no big deal.
Then neither our waitress, not the host could tell me what the Rockefeller steak companion was. The host decided his best guess was a spinach and mushroom topper, which he said with a lot of confidence as he described it, but that was listed right under Rockefeller...I was disappointed there wasn't a seafood companion like crab or lobster. Only bleu cheese butter, Rockefeller, and spinach/mushrooms.
Salmon and filet were both fine, but our cooking requests were not followed; I asked for mine seared on the outside, cooked medium but it was medium rare and not seared. My mashed potatoes were room temperature, and my wife's potato fingerlings were dry.
Waitress charged us for a Coke we didn't order, but we noticed after we signed the bill and weren't in the mood to have a $4 correction made after the fact.
Nothing terrible, but a bunch of little things plus middle of the road food means we don't feel like going back. Seems like there would be a great view for lunch, but when it's dark, nothing is lit up to make this place worth the cost. So, don't go for a good evening view.
We had a group meal there. It was very good. The waiter was good and view was nice.
The service was horrible. While we waited for our table we sat at the bar. We sat there for 10 minutes, as bartenders walked past us, who never asked us if we wanted a drink. We never had a drink at the bar. Got our table it took another 10 minutes for our waiter to approach us. He never brought us a bread basket. Food was average.
Nice place, well serviced.
Recomendable to a couple or a group of people
An excellent meal, great atmosphere, will definitely be back!
Beautiful restaurant to eat in. There food was good the service was not. It seemed to waitress was bothered we were there. The servers were good.
Surprisingly perfect for hosting out of town business guests on a Friday night. Very spacious and perfectly curated food and spaces to enjoy. Views perfect and none of touristy crowds that are wondering around pier 39.
The food, service, ambiance, and view were all excellent!
This was the second night in a row we went to the Chart House. We had such a great time the night before we came back and we were not disappointed. Farrah Ebrahimi took care of us and she was great! Efficient, professional, and with a great sense of humour. Thanks Farrah! I personally love the crunchy coconut shrimp - nice light tempura style beautifully presented and we had some very good merlot and cab. Unfortunately, our business was done by Monday otherwise I would have gone back a third night in a row. Fantastic views of the bay at sunset. The perfect setting. Great food, great wine, great place to go!
Great food............................................... poor service.
Couldn’t get waited on, restaurant half empty at 6:30 pm. Apparently no help,,,, Suggestion: if you are short of help then don’t take reservations! When we got up to leave, we asked to speak to a manager explaining why we were leaving. (Mgr did say he would wait on us though but at that point we declined). Don’t waste your time, there are lots of good restaurants with good service nearby (with same gorgeous views)!
Got a great view, which I asked for so that was a great perk of dining there, plus all of the food tasted amazing and was presented well!
Food was very good. We had an amazing view of fisherman’s wharf where we watched the sea lions and the sunset on the bridge. Cocktails were good. Server was maybe new? Unsure but he was shakey dropped a drink and split the bill very weird.
I've lived in San Francisco for 30 years and frequently enjoy sailing charters, boat rides off the piers. We decided to go to chart house after a boat ride for my friends birthday. We've had great experiences at chart houses in monterey. The menu looked familiar since it is owned by Landry's chain of seafood restaurants, so we thought it would be good. It was a very disappointing experience, so I would not go back or recommend. The prime rib was tasteless and fatty. The 3 potatoes side dish was bland, cold, and too large of potato chunks. The martini had lots of vermouth, which we specifically said we did not want. The service was non-existent. After taking our order, the waiter said he was going on a 30 minute break and someone else was to take over. That person appeared once only and we had to remind him to bring my friend's volcano cake, which came out tepid and smeared on a plate. The employees really don't seem to remotely care about service and the place seemed so mis-managed.
Wonderful experience! The view was spectacular and we all had different items on the menu and each was fantastic. It made the birthday for a friend a special experience.
We were looking forward on our 2nd dining experience here but was so disappointed. Fish and chips was horrible not fresh at all. And after we ate at the at Alioto’s it was night and day. My husband is a fan of Charter House in Boston but this one in fisherman’s wharf disappointed him badly.
Restaurant was severely under staffed. Two servers and One bartender on duty. Waited 35 minutes to get drinks while waiting an hour to be seated for our reservation.
Food was good, but not worth the wait.
The restaurant was a great location with a awesome view of the bay. The day I was at the restaurant the service was a horrible experience. This is the reason I rated it low. Maybe it was just a bad day??
Took 30 minutes to get a beer 45 minutes to be seated our food actually came out before we got our beer and two items on the menu were not available.
Because of the great Avions location view of the bay I will give it one more try.
A spectacular view of the bay and excellent food preparation.
The restaurant came recommended to us for the beautiful view of Alcatraz which is stunning. Even though the restaurant is located at the end of the touristy Pier 39, The atmosphere of the restaurant is great and our food was delicious. Our server was very attentive to our needs while we dined. I give Chart House 5 stars for the view, the atmosphere, the incredible food and outstanding service.
Service was awful unfortunately but food was amazing like always!! Ordered 4 drinks at the bar while waiting for table and received 3 drinks within 2 minutes but waiting for over 30 minutes for the third drink. Then had another 15 minute debate on if my card was ran. Waitress was very pushy, forgetful and tough to understand. Waitress then ended the night with circling her tip amount. Food was amazing and loved the vibe. We will be back again as this was a rarity experience
They forgot about the bowl of clam chowder we ordered and we didn't bother following it up but it still showed up in the check, so I requested to be removed.
Great food, excellent service and amazing view!
Naturally the view is spectacular and the food is good, but the service was so poor it made us feel like they didn't care. It was if we're all tourists and they won't see us again. They made a mistake there, we're locals! The service was poor from our first interface with the bartender. He was slow, the bar wasn't busy and he kept getting things confused for just 3 of us. When we were seated, on time I will add, the waitress Dora came right over and was very pleasant. We ordered two appetizers however the sauces for them didn't arrive until about 10 minutes later. Two of the small plates were removed with the appetizer dishes however the other two (a 4th had joined us) and the other two and the sauces remained. We moved them to the front of the table and they continued to stay. A person started bringing entrees, two and then the other two and ran away. Dirty little plates still there. We tried to get someone's attention for a pepper mill and also a bib etc for the Boulliabaisse, no one around. Finally about 10 minutes later the food delivery person returned with a plate of crab crackers, forks and bibs that should have been with the dish to begin with. The request for pepper seemed to fall on deaf ears. Guess we'll leave this place to the tourists as they'll never be back...and neither will we.
Our server was horrible!! We got our appetizers before our drinks! The clam chowder was just cream without many clams or potatoes etc in it. We sent it back & they did apologize & took it off our bill. We ordered a second bottle of wine when we got our meals. We had to cancel that because the waitress didn’t bring it until we had been finished with our meal for ten or more minutes & we were just sitting there. We made reservations here because we had good friends in from Australia & wanted to have a nice view. The view was great, but the rest was a disappointment & embarrassment when trying to show our friends a nice dinner. They said the didn’t mind because they’re gracious, but we could tell they were disappointed also. We will not be returning anytime in the future.
Good food and view, but very slow service. Waiter tried to keep up but had little support from management. It wasn't even all that busy.
Restaurant was noisier tonight than usual for some reason. Maybe because usually we get a table by window, by tonight we were away from the windows. Otherwise, enjoyable meal as atmosphere is always nice and service is fine.
Very nice views
it was a beautiful view of the SF bay and we were able to enjoy the sea lions basking in the sunshine out our window. it was a great lunch experience.
I was impressed. The location and view was the best. The decor was ideal for the pier location. I think that is Chart House’s claim to fame. I have been to numerous Chart Houses, and they have all been consistently good view, food, and service. All at a reasonable price relative to the prime location. We really enjoyed our meals and view. It was a spacious comfortable restaurant for our large family, especially for SF. I am looking forward to going back.
The negatives were that parking at Pier 39 is quite expensive even with the one hour validation. Also, we had a small glitch with the service. Our original waiter didn’t tell us he was leaving and the new waiter didn’t introduce himself to us so we didn’t know who was serving us. That caused me to not get my wine before dinner. I also felt there was a kitchen staff serving the plates, but he was making me uncomfortable since I thought he just didn’t look experienced in the way he was holding the plates. But in the end, the new waiter was exceptional. I wish we had had him from the beginning. That is the type of service we have experienced usually from CH.
Overall, this is my new go to in SF. Just have to be willing to walk to the end of the pier, which in my opinion makes it even better.
Great views, food, service....prices high but it is San Francisco.
Enjoyed the fantastic view from our table. Two of us had the cioppino and two had the seafood skillet. Both were outstanding!
