Good restaurant for a touristy area. The food was decently priced for San Francisco and for it being a restaurant with an ocean view.

The main reason to go here is the outstanding view of the San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz island. It is one of the more upscale restaurants on Pier 39, and we were looking to have a nice lunch with friends visiting from overseas. The food was pretty good, although it seemed a bit overpriced for what we got. Kinda par for the course. However, our main complaint was the dirty placemats and silverware, plus their unwillingness to seat us by a window, even though they weren't that busy. I'd say take your chances here, but know that you are paying mostly for the view.

Was there celebrating anniversary. The food and service was excellent. Restaurant provided a wonderful table adjacent to the window overlooking the bay. At the end of our meal they surprised us with a complimentary dessert that was eye catching and delicious! Really made our occasion very memorable.

I chose this restaurant specifically to get a view of the sunset over San Francisco Bay and booked a table for 6pm and asked for a table by the window. When we arrived right on time, we were first told that they had no table available and to wait 10-15 minutes. We looked inside, and saw very many empty tables, many of them by the window. We asked if we could have one of those tables, but didn't get any answer or explanation. After a while we got a table near the window, view ok, but nothing like the empty tables in the front. We also got the feeling that we were very "demanding" customers, even if we just asked for what they advertise: A beautiful view of SF Bay. Food ok, but would not have chosen this restaurant just for the food

The view is the biggest selling point. The food was fine, but not over the top. On our visit the service was slow, but were in no hurry, so not important to us. Go when it is daylight.

The food was very good. The ahi poke presentation was very memorable and the food was great. We got the coconut shrimp (again presentation is was something to behold) and used the soy sauce for the poke which was the best combo. The entrees were all delicious. Our only knock was was that entrees took a while to come out but our appetizers came out very quick which stopped us from serious hangry side effects.

Service was slow. Took over 20 min to get a glass of water. Had to request twice for some bread to be brought to table. That took 45 min. Son ordered a burger and it came out twice incorrectly. We ordered a grill salmon and it was tender and would have been excellent had it not had the burnt grill char chunks on it from previous comings.

Sadly disappointed. In town for one night. First time visit to city. Definitely was not worth the time and money.

Service was top notch, wine list is very large and the menu options were spread out with classics and hipper items as well.
Would highly recommend this place.

Found the food to be nothing of standard
My daughters burger was like a hockey puck
My prime rib was over cooked sent back and returned over cooked
Couldn't finish it without any concern from wait staff or management
NOTHING but a tourist trap

My 87yr old mother wanted to see the Blue Angels again before she dies. The Chart House, in my opinion, out did themselves. I had made a reservation asking to be seated close to the windows. Our ferry was late getting to pier 41, and we had to walk to pier 39. We were 20 minutes late but they had saved a table for us in the corner by very tall windows. My mother had her wish come true, she was able to see the Blue Angels.

We had a nice early dinner on the Sunday of Fleet Week. The front desk granted our request for a window seat. We got there 45 minutes early but nonetheless, they were gracious to seat us next to window to enjoy the fantastic air show including the Blue Angels. Our server was very attentive, answered all our many menu questions and seemed to show up the exact minute that we wanted anything. Five stars for service!!
Food is traditional Chart House Comfort food. We didn't order anything daring. I must mention that the calamari appetizer was the most surprisingly wonderful thing. Not your usual breading treatment, slight spice, some nice chopped greens and just so nice on the palate. Our fresh fish, one prime rib (a Chart House Standard) and a lava cake desert were all solid.
The prices are high but not out of line for upscale San Francisco these days. You will get a wonderful view of the bay too.

The Chart House is a great place to have good food and wine, and be treated well by the staff. We went on a Saturday so it was very busy, but I had a reservation and got a table easily. I would highly recommend making a reservation before you go. This restaurant is on Pier 39 and it gets many customers. We got a table by the window and the oceanside view was lovely. I ordered the blackened chicken with fettucine and alfredo sauce, which was very good. The staff at the front of the house came around often to make sure we had everything we needed. My husband has Celiac's Disease and has to eat gluten-free. The chef came out to talk to him to make sure the food he wanted would be gluten-free. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Consistently superb food; seafood fresh each day. Delightful servers; best (and cutest) manager on Earth (and beyond!!). Spectacular bay views; nice ambiance (but a bit bright; might dim things a bit after 9:00 pm). Awesome deserts!
Only objection: Overhead lamps not the coolest. Rest of the physical space is lovely!

Amazing view. Waterfront window seating gone within 10 minutes of 11:30 lunch opening. Had seafood Cobb and Crab Louie. Crab and shrimp were disappointing. Crab was shredded and pre-prepared - not very flavorful. Bay shrimp slightly better - sweet and flavorful.

Food was OK. Did I mention the VIEW?

Excellent seafood and great service. The inside of the restaurant is well maintained with beautiful views of the harbor, Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz island. Even after dark the view of sailboats, ferries and fishing boats coming and going out the window is a pretty sight to watch.

Highly recommend any of the fresh fish options. My wife had the Mahi blackened and it was delicious. I had the seafood pasta and it was the best seafood pasta dish I've ever had. The pasta was loaded with scallops, shrimp and multiple types of fish. (Salmon, swordfish, mahi, etc). The noodles were perfect al dente and the sauce was light and a perfect match for the seafood.

Service was exceptional. It was a very enjoyable evening.

If you don't know the Chart House formula here is a quick breakdown. Great food (the Tuna Tartare is delicious and fun), great locations and great service. The Chart House nailed the formula and served my party of 8 perfectly. I'm a super fan of this brand, as I've never had a bad experience and I've tried over a dozen of their locations.

If you have never experienced the Chart House, you wouldn't know it is a chain / brand, check it out.

First time experience. Ambience and view of Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz were perfect. Service was great by waitress and manager Broderick. My guest and I felt well cared for all night. The recommendations of drinks (Mojito's) and appetizers (crab meat avocado stack) were spot on. The meals of sea bass and swordfish were very appetizing. Definitely a place for good fine dining. Will definitely visit again.

 (San Francisco)·Dined on September 9, 2017

Recently four of us went to The Chart House on San Francisco’s Pier 39 to celebrate our birthdays.

On our way through the crowd to the restaurant we stopped to see a hundred or so huge Elephant Seals resting on floating barges, pushing, shoving and competing for a comfortable place to rest. Verbally, The Marine Mammal Center identify their sounds as “howls, cackles, barks and roars.”

We made reservations for early evening in order to get a table by the window. We were not disappointed. Once seated we looked out directly at Alcatraz with Angel Island in the background. To the left was the The Golden Gate bridge. Enough said.

During our two-hour dinner we were treated to the sights of dozens of boats both commercial and private parading within yards of our table. Hundreds - this is not an exaggeration - of Pelicans in their squadron-formation flew by in groups ranging from 4 to 40. Seagulls, cormorants and other unknown birds were in constant flight or resting on the short wall along the walkway.

Our waiter was very attentive thereby giving up excellent service. We began by ordering drinks and shrimp cocktail for the table. 6 large shrimp were hanging over the edge of the serving bowl on a bed of ice with spicy sauce at the bottom. When served it was like a small volcano as a piece of dry ice was among the ice and set smoking by a touch of warm water. We took pictures.
For our entrees one of us had Swordfish, another filet mignon, two of us had prime rib. All four meals were perfect.

We concluded with hot chocolate lave cake with a molten center made with Godiva liqueur large enough for us to share.

We left complete satisfied in every way. For sure we’ll be back soon.

We eat at Chart House frequently in Monterey and Tahoe. This was our first time at Pier 39.
We sat at the bar while waiting for our table as we arrived early for our reservation. There were only 2 bartenders for the restaurant and they were completely overwhelmed. We sat at the bar for probably at least 5 minutes and were never greeted or acknowledged. Other patrons were experiencing the same thing.
Our table was finally ready so we just figured we would get drinks at the table.
We ordered drinks and they didn't have the ingredients to make either one so we had to settle for something else. One of which was an advertised drink special.
We both had the Chilean sea bass which was delicious as always.
We also had to remind the waiter that we wanted the chocolate lava cake which requires 30 min advance notice.
He apologized and then thanked me for letting him know. He is supposed to ask. As I said we eat at Chart House frequently so we know.
Overall it was an average experience. The food being the high point.
It was the Labor Day weekend and I think they possibly were just not as prepared as they should have been.
