View Private Dining DetailsI've been patronizing the Chart House - Redondo Beach since the mid-1980s, and this past Saturday's visit was the most unpleasant dining experience I've had there. I had a business associate and his wife with me and my wife, 4 of us, and we were seated next to a very obnoxious family and were seated against the back wall right under the A/C vent.
Two things happened that should be cause for concern by the management of this restaurant.
1. After sundown, the thermostat must be raised up because it was very cold in the dining room. We had asked the waiter to raise up the temperature and it wasn't raised until I went to the manager on duty. She raised it up, and this was after dinner. She was very nice and apologetic.
2. The table I wanted to sit at was "reserved" for a family. They had a young boy about 4 or 5 years old who yelled and screamed all night long during dinner, and the parents wouldn't take him out of the room until they had finished their dinner about an hour later. The sounds coming out of the mouth of this kid was high pitched, piercing and quite irritating to the point we were about to leave, then dinner was served, so we decided to stay. Whenever the kid didn't get his way he would scream. Poor parenting for sure, but the waiter staff should've brought the manager over because this family had completely ruined the wonderful dining experience you would normally have at a Chart House for all of the folks in that seating area.
I not going to tell someone how to raise their kids or what is acceptable behavior in a public setting but this family and kid was way out of control. Our dinner was ruined by this family.
Restaurant managers must ensure the integrity of their store and the quality of the ambiance they advertise. It was not on display Saturday night.
On another note, the food was very tasty and the service was excellent. Next time we'll leave if this happens again.
It’s hard to imagine a better dining experience than The Chart House in Redondo Beach. The food is fabulous and if you like looking at the ocean waves while you dine, it doesn’t get much better than this!
Food was excellent , good service , and beautiful view
There were four of us at the table. The waitress brought out two of meals and it took a long time for the second meals to come out. This really disrupted the meal and made it not as enjoyable as should have been.
Everything was great!
We have celebrated our birthdays and anniversaries at the Chart House for years. The prime rib has always been delicious. We also love the salad bar. If you get there before 6pm you can usually get a table at a window looking out at the ocean. We hope to continue to enjoy the Chart House for years to come.
I made a reservation at Chart House Redondo Beach with Open House for my spouses birthday. I noted in the special notes that it was a birthday dinner. I received a call a few hours before our reservation asking for my spouses name. When we got there, they seated us in an area with the most perfect view and personalized our menus with his name. The staff was also amazing. They really did an incredible job at making us feel welcome. The night was so special and memorable. I wish i could’ve tipped them so much more. Great experience. Top notch. Worth every penny.
We arrived at hapoy hour and received our drinks, they were lovely. Asked to be seated and to put drinks on the main tab. They asked if we could pay separately for drinks (they do this so you have to tip twice). We said ok and got the drinks bill-not at hapoy hour prices! We reminded them of happy hour and Bill was changed. Much to the dislike of the bartender - his fave said it all. After be g told our seat was ready we then had to wait about 20 mins for the new bill and settle up - so we missed the view of the sunset. The view however was still lovely. The waiter was truly awful. Lacked any sort of personality, didn't know the menu very well was rude. He simply plonked the food on the table and walked away. The steak was large but that's all it had going for it. The lump of fat in the middle of it made up about 30% of the size of it. The wine was lovely and we enjoyed our night as we had eachothers company. Thankfully, we were much happier than the waiter who may I suggest finds a new career! Undertaker for example?! Creme brulee pudding was delicious!
Server was great. Restaurant is beautiful. Food was wonderful. I had the Mahi Mahi with lemon shallot butter medium rare—awesome. Salad bar was fun.
Easter Sunday, decided to have at CH instead of the usual home
Nice time
service was ok but food arrived luke warm, everything on the plate.
My son had the childs hamburger, was over cooked and cold also including the fries, brought it home & he still didnt want it so i ate it, tasted like no seasoning, I couldnt eat it till i added some salt and pepper.
Hard to believe you go out to eat for Easter and almost freeze to death.
We had a lovely evening and loved our dinners❤️🎈 I had prime rib and it was medium rare and delicious—- the cosmos were made to perfection 🎉
We will always return 🍷🍷
I'll start by saying the view was really great (the ocean waves were right outside the window) and the shrimp/crap appetizer with mango and avocado was the best part of the menu.
Unfortunately everything else was sub-par. I'm gluten free and the food they brought me was bland & unsatisfying. I was still hungry so asked for a side of shrimp and was charged $15 for 4 tiny pieces. I kept having to doctor up my salad and veggies with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt because there was no flavor on the food. Between all the extras that I kept adding the bill was over $110 and I walked away feeling super disappointed in what I ate. Also was grossed out because at the beginning of our time at the restaurant a server spilled someone's dish and a big pile of pasta was all over the floor. I was ASTONISHED that one hour later, no one had cleaned it up. The servers just kept stepping over it. When we finally left after our meal the mess had still not been cleaned up. Not good. Probably won't return.
My wife and I had not been to Chart House in MANY YEARS and we could not remember why ... LOL, Now we do. First - Staff are great!! Everyone we encountered was vey nice, service was great. The hostesses, the bar tenders, all the way down to the Valet guys. Our waiter was terrific, attentive, never missed a beat. This location is very nice, high class, perfect low light nice first date, romantic date place. The issue ... THE FOOD and it was then that we had our AHHA moment. The food, is not BAD, but it is not GOOD, at least not for the prices you are paying. We go to a high end steak house, once a month, Ruth's Chris, The Stinking Rose, Lawry's, McCormick and Schmick, etc. you get the point ... so this review doesn't come from someone who thinks Black Angus is a high end steak house (all though we do enjoy them). The menu skews seafood (makes a lot of sense, oceanfront property) there really is only TWO beef options, a NY Steak and the Prime Rib - NO RIB EYE??? We got the Tuna Tar Tar and a bowl of the clam chowder as an app. Both were "good" but again, NOT WOW?? We both opted for the Prime Rib, again no Rib Eye?? And again, it was OK. The problem is No matter what we had, we both could count five places that we had better, better tuna tar tar, better clam chowder, and definitely better prime rib. - We have just had much better FOOD at better prices. We had a great time, it was lovely, we walked away agreeing we just paid all that money for an experience, ocean front restaurant, white table cloths, professional waiters, low lighting, I had to put pants on for this experience. - ONLY NEGATIBE, we are "club" members and the "interface" was down and could not credit my account with points, so now I will have to go to the web site and input myself. Would have really sucked had I been hoping to redeem my birthday $25 or other rewards. - So we won't return for MANY YEARS until we forget and then someday go back and go ... OH THAT'S RIGHT!!! LOL
My date and I hadn't been to the Chart House in many years, and thought it might be the perfect place for a romantic dinner. It was much different than we remembered, starting with the parking structure blocking the restaurant, not attractive. Once we got inside the restaurant it was a nice atmosphere; however, the restaurant is definitely aging. The windows were cloudy, the rafters looked old, again not the restaurant we remembered from years past. Our waitress was very good but she definitely had too many tables to attend to, and there was no one checking on our water, bread, clearing dirty dishes, etc. She took care of us as quickly as she could but did not have time to keep up with those details. We saw one "bus boy" walking around checking his watch but wasn't paying attention to the tables. The food was good, although my filet mignon was very tough and hard to slice through. My date's steak was better but overly priced. We had a difficult time hearing each other over the noise so it was not a romantic dinner. I would come back for a group dinner, or happy hour, but not for a couple's dinner.
We were disappointed with our dining experience this time. We had dinner for two at the Chart House on Valentines Day and had a really great experience. At our most recent visit, when we were celebrating my birthday and our wedding anniversary, the service was excruciatingly slow and we really didn’t feel treated like valuable customers. The waiter was polite but really just went through the motions and didn’t go out of his way to make us feel valued. I would strongly recommend you add more staff to improve the timeliness of service and make the staff feel less stressed.
Business dinner
The service was excellent and the view was amazing. I would definitely go back to this restaurant!
Great food and wonderful service. Loved it! Birthday dinner so we were happy to be sat by the window and look at the ocean during our meal!
The Chart House is an excellent restaurant in every respect. The food is delicious and nicely presented, the service is friendly and attentive, the view is outstandingly beautiful. With prices that are within reason, what's not to like?
Had a wonderful but we always do when we choose the Chart House.
Food was great! Service was excellent ! The view is always killer!
Our party of 4 loved chart house . Our waiter was excellent . The featured wine was excellent and I liked they we could taste it first .
The good was outstanding .
Can’t wait to gone back for another special occasion !
The food is not as good as it once was. We had a minor issue with the food that turned major when a manager tried to explain what a free pea was. Its expensive which I don't mind but its not worth the expense at the moment. Hopefully, they turn it around as its a personal favorite.
Food was very good, although the prime rib had quite a bit of fat on it. The drinks were also very good. The anniversary card (after only an hour's notice) was a nice touch.
The staff was super amazing. Friendly, accommodating and used 1st names. The seating was perfect and the view was breathtaking. The lighting was just right. We had happy hour at the bar. Selection was just right. Not too much not too little. Valet Parking was friendly and the restaurant wasn’t packed and noisy
Everything was amazing. We received personalized menus for our anniversary that we got to take home. Our server was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. The food, ambiance and ocean view made for a very romantic evening!
Food was tasty, loved the Kemchee Calamari. portions were great and the service was fantastic.
Met some friends and had a fantastic night with food, wine and an absolutely breathtaking sunset view! Totally will be back........food was amazing! :)
I have celebrated my birthday there in the last 4 years- fabulous view and for the last 2 years we had wonderful Kevin as our waiter!!!
Celebrated two birthdays! Beautiful ambiance. Sunset was amazing! Service was excellent...going the extra step to take pictures for us! The menus were printed with our birthday celebrants names! Very nice!
The open table was so easy to book. We got a table next to the window and could watch the beautiful sunset.
The filet we ordered was the best ever. Just cooked perfectly!!
We really enjoyed our dinner.
Service was slow. Waiter was very unattentive. We had to wait and ask the waiter to check on our entrees more than a half an hour after our salads were finished. When the food did arrive it was lukewarm and obviously sitting out for sometime. I have heard great reviews for Chart House, but was very disappointed. More than likely not going to recommend for future business dinners.
Outstanding set and food
Great food and atmosphere
The Chart House in Redondo Beach has been one of my favorite places to dine for over 30 years. I have been to the Newport Beach location many times, but prefer the Redondo Beach local. The quality of their food is consistent as is their service. The ambiance is relaxing with an oceanfront view that is particularly spectacular during sunset.
Absolutely perfect experience. ChartHouse is my favorite restaurant. Window seat is an absolute must. Early Bird catches the worm so get there when they open.
Lots of mushrooms
We had a window seat so front row seats to the ocean, the waves, and a spectacular sunset. This photo is literally taken from our table. Great service from Mo, great food, great drinks. A wonderful evening.
