Chart House Restaurant - Portland Ratings and Reviews
Varied menu selection leaned more toward beef and seafood but there are plenty of other options as well. All of us were very happy with our meals. Atmosphere lovely, beautiful lighting and stunning view. Server Matt was fabulous. Attentive but didn't hover. Chart House was an excellent choice for our annual Christmas dinner. Can't say enough what a pleasure it was to be there.
The service was wonderful but they stuck us in a side room with far too many tables and it was awkward. We weren't seated until 8:15 and there were several open tables in the center of the room? The room we were in had a private party going on so it was loud. Then they started rearranging/cleaning-up the room and we weren't done eating. They acted like we weren't there and talked amongst themselves as to how to arrange to room for brunch the next morning. It was inly 9:30 and we would have liked to stay for an after dinner drink but we felt like we needed to leave as they cleaned the room...weird!
Chart House is a go-to destination for special occasions with a friendly and efficient staff.
Sadly, on our most recent visit, with advance requests for a special birthday reservation and a table next to the window, and after arriving 10 minutes prior to our reservation time, we were seated only after waiting 45 minutes, and at a table directly next to the kitchen...not next to a window.
The staff would call out, “corner!” As they headed back to the kitchen, every time they passed our table.
Because of the wait they offered two complimentary appetizers to our party of 4, but then failed to remember that when the bill came.
The food was excellent, as usual, but the experience overall was Not what we have come to expect from Chart House.
I wish I could give an honest and unbiased review. I made a reservation to have dinner for my wife's birthday. When we arrived they had no power. The staff was very nice and polite, and let us know we could wait if we choose, but the issue probably won't be resolved that night.
We ate at Jake's Grill instead and after being seated instantly waited 45 minutes for 2 steaks and some mash potatoes. It was delicious but not the night we had expected.
Celebrating our daughter’s birthday with wife and other daughter. Unfortunaly, just after we ordered our dinner there was a massive darkness explosion (transformers). Disappointed we couldn’t enjoy the special evening this time around. Slightly disappointed that they didn’t offer to comp the iced tea and rolls but we paid our bill and adjourned to our alternate restaurant.
We had a lovely evening at Chart House, once again. The restaurant was not crowded, and we were seated in advance of our reservation. The service was impeccable, and food delicious. I tried one of the rapid-infused cocktails, and it was fantastic! Can’t wait to go back.
I would definitely like to compliment the two waiters that we had serving our
party of 14. They were helpful, attentive without being overly invasive, and provided
outstanding service. Everyone enjoyed themselves and felt very comfortable in the
environment. Thank you for a very enjoyable occasion.
Have dined at Chart House on many occasions over the years. Generally excellent. I think this was an off night. My wife, daughter, and myself try to celebrate all our birthdays together close to the end of the year as juggling schedules is tricky. Service began rushed, obviously coached to turn around tables even though the restaurant wasn't bustling at 5:30 P.M. yet. Then became inattentive when it became clear we wanted to enjoy our evening and our meal and not be herded through the courses. Brought a special bottle of wine to share, but could not find our server to even request corkge so we ended up taking it home and having it after dinner. Had to request water refills from other servers. Food prices have increased beyond what would be customary especially since most entrees come ala carte and sides are extra. Food prep was not up to past standards, ie. tasteless, raw prime rib when medium was requested and no steak knife offered to cut it. These are things you should not have to request or entrees should not have to be sent back and cooked properly. This was not the Chart House we have been accustomed to, and it was a unanimous concensus. Not sure we'll go back.
We ate at The Chart House on Thanksgiving. I ordered the "Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner" which was a HUGE mistake. Seriously, I've had better food at an all-you-can-eat buffet! The turkey did not look or taste like roasted turkey but more like deli- sliced sandwich meat with a thin tasteless gravy on top. The stuffing was a mushy blob resembling reconstituted camping food and the sweet potato was overcooked with a chemical tasting butter on top. I've never been so disappointed in my life. The only passible items were the creamed spinach and the pecan pie but I've had better. This was one of the worst meals I've ever had in any restaurant.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner for the second year. Food was very good except....no gravy? The Yukon Gold potatoes and stuffing were excellent, but no gravy? And no soft rolls, either. We will probably try some other place next year, but really love this restaurant. It sits up in the trees and the drive up Terwilliger is always wonderful.
We so enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner at the Chart House! We sat in the Totem Room which was much quieter than the main dining room. Our server made the experience very special. The service moved a great pace, being this was a busy holiday, but we never felt rushed and she took the time to visit with us. We're going to make it a tradition!
Arrived at Chart House early for our 6:30 reservation. We were seated approx 10 minutes late in a table at the very back of the restaurant, which I’d had asked for a window seat. I️ asked to move and they did. The food was good. The busser asked us to hand him our plates across the granite divider to clean our table, which we handed him our plates, and essentially means we cleaned our own table multiple times throughout the courses. It was my sons 11th birthday and we had a cake to which I️ asked for plates. I️ cut the cake with a table knife and has the busser light the candles. Much to my chargrin, when the bill came, the server had added a $25 cake fee to out inovice. I️ questioned the charge and she argued with me that’s how much nice restaurants charge and is to be expected because they lose dessert revenue when you bring in a birthday cake. Our check was $250 for five people and she did nothing to facilitate the serving of the cake. I️ have no problem in paying for cake service if they put the cake in the refrigerator while we eat dinner and then assist with serving. And then to argue about the charge is ridiculous. She ended up removing the charge and her tip did not suffer, but they lost my future business. This restaurant has gone down hill with no management in sight. It’s too bad because it’s a Portland landmark.
