Chart House Restaurant - Portland Ratings and Reviews
Not impressed with the level of service we received when visiting the Chart House for Valentine's Day dinner of all nights. We had a reservation made months in advance, and upon arrival we asked for a window seat, which we were told may take a bit longer. This was more than okay and we completely understood, however after waiting 45 minutes past our reservation time, we were seated...not in a window seat. I also had requested a small vase of flowers to go onto the table, and while multiple tables around us did have flowers, ours unfortunately was overlooked. That being said, the food was incredible, and fairly priced. But the hostess staff was unfriendly and not accommodating, and because of this it was really not worth it overall.
food was good but service was really bad. The spoon on the table was very dirty and full of dirts on the back of the spoon (I was going to put it in my soup and feed my 10 months old baby). I wasn't very happy with that and I left 10% tip and the waiter came after us to the parking lot asking why. It was very unprofessional and very awkward. I don't think I am going to go back.
I should have asked to speak to the manager.
Haven't been to a Chart House since Waikiki many moons ago. Would a visit to the Portland Chart House, in our new city, match our tasty memories? Answer: Oh, yes. From terrific service with a personal touch -- thank you, Beth -- to food that hit the spot, we ate it all up from start to finish. Well done, it was.
JP, our server, was great! He explained everything and was very attentive. Food was good and arrived quickly. Was a little loud in the dining room for our liking. The bar area was actually quieter and we would have preferred to sit down there. The service downstairs was a little slower, we ordered drinks and apps before being seated and only the water was served.
Don't plan on sitting at the window, even if you show up an hour before your reservations, if you're not part of the Landry Club (rewards program). That said, seems to be a great program, and you get significant credit for joining. Just disappointing that I didn't know that ahead of time.
We indicated on our Open Table reservation that we were new to the area and had heard about the lovely view and requested a table by the window if possible. Not only did they give us a wonderful corner table with the view, but both the hostess and server made comments welcoming us to Portland and asking about our move. It was a thoughtful touch on top of securing a great table on a Saturday night for newcomers.
While there was a slight mixup with our orders (we received another table’s entrees while we were enjoying our appetizers) the food was fantastic. We loved everything we tried: we started with a half dozen oysters and a shrimp/crab mango avocado stack that was delicious. I then had the grilled swordfish with mushroom-kale risotto and my fiancé had the NY steak with asparagus. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and even took the leftovers home with us.
We had a very nice evening and really appreciate Chart House going above and beyond for us, we will be back!
Wonderful date time. Busy place. View was great except the party of 20, of which 5-7 kept standing blocking our “window view”. Food is overpriced for freshness lacking. Ahi good, but flavorless. Added wasabi sauce and it was fine. Rice pilaf tasted days old. Reminding for coffee twice is unacceptable, though waitstaff was great. Nice flowers and greetings for the birthday, though we thought maybe a dessert would be added. Basic meals, really, nothing over the top to warrant 5 star prices. We’d return, but only for brunch which is much more reasonable. Beware: only valet parking.
The food and ambiance were great!!! The service (server actually) was disappointing. He brought the wrong food to the table, didn't bring the dessert we ordered early during the dinner so it would be ready at the end (nor did he even acknowledge it at the end).
Also, the restaurant has a nice card that has been signed by employees when it is a special occasion waiting on the table when you arrive. My guest thanked him for the nice card and he took it from the table, reviewed it and pointed out that he hadn't signed the card. While not a big deal, it took the shine of a kind gesture and a thoughtful thankyou.
Very nice restaurant and was greeted immediately upon entering. Was seated at a wonderful table with spectacular view. Only glitch to the meal was that service was very slow. Took over 20 minutes to get drinks, then another 20 mins to order our food and then an eternity to finally get served. :(
