Chart House Restaurant - Newport (Cincinnati) Ratings and Reviews
Ambience and river view was beautiful. Definitely a great place for quiet conversation, birthday or anniversary, special occassion. Food was okay, seemed overpriced and overrated. Salad bar was great, very fresh items and good variety. The service here was very wonderful from the valet, to the servers, host and cooks. We really enjoyed ourselves for a snowy night out for dinner with an awesome view!
Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine features. The river view and lights of downtown Cincinnati was beautiful-and the seafood was fresh and delicious. We lingered after finishing our meal to talk and did not feel hurried. My favorite seafood restaurant in the area!
We went to the Chart House due to its location on the river with an excellent view. There were 5 in our party, including 3 from out of town here for the holidays. We requested a window table on Open Table. Upon arriving, we were told it would be a fairly long wait and the only available seating for our group, including a handicapped person with a cane and one large individual, was in a booth not near a window. After being seated and finding it wouldn’t work, we asked them to put 2 tables together. They then raised a leaf on one which worked out fine. This could have been offered in the first place but the hostesses were unwilling to do so.
As for the food, one of us ordered the prime rib medium rare, which came out rare and full of fat. It was returned and replaced with a good serving of beef cooked perfectly. Two others had a filet and strip which were very good. Another had the snapper hemingway, which was her frequent choice there, but it was not nearly as good as usual.
All in all, being a Landry’s frequent diner at Chart House, it was a very disappointing experience, especially since entertaining out of town guests. Further, it is rather expensive, so the value was not what it should have been. Therefore, we do not plan to return anytime soon, if at all.
I would definitely NOT recommend the swordfish here. It looked like a thin plank of fish that came out of a freezer somewhere. If you want good swordfish, try Bonefish when they have it as a daily special - a much, much better meal.
However, the stuffed flounder and the red snapper were excellent.
Service was also excellent.
Just disappointed with the swordfish, which 2 of our party of 8 ordered.
This was my first time at Chart House and my husband and I were absolutely blown away! The view is incredible. We shared all of our food items and everything was outstanding! We ordered the lobster bisque, filet mignon, crab cake, and Asian green beans. For a seafood restaurant it was quite possibly the best steak we’ve ever had.
We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner. Our service, once seated, was outstanding. I am grateful to our servers who work on these holidays to make our evening perfect.
It was very crowded so the noise level was a bit high and we had to wait longer than normal for our table but it was worth the wait.
We have eaten here many times for many special occasions and have always had great food, service and overall experience. Which is exactly why we came back to have Christmas Eve dinner. Unfortunately we did not have the usual experience. We were sat 10-15 after our reservations, then my drink was given to another guest and then our meal took over 45 minutes to arrive after we placed our order. Our waiter was overwhelmed to say the least. Then the food was lukewarm at best. On top of it all, not once did the manager come over to let us know or apologize for the delay. So based on this visit it is unlikely we will back for a while or recommend it to friends.
Went for Christmas Eve and had a little bit of a wait (to be expected even with reservations). Service was great but the food was a disaster. Two of the steaks we ordered came out with the cook temps reversed on them. Another order for my daughter saw a rare burger (kid). The wait time on the food should have given the kitchen ample time to get our order correct as the manager came out and apologized and offered a desert. We saw the manager again when they tried to remake the incorrect items but one came out worse than the first time. We saw the GM and he apologized profusely and comped some items. In summary great ambiance, service was excellent, but I would stay away for the holidays.
Wonderful experience! We went to celebrate a birthday and a belated wedding anniversary. The service was outstanding. Our 14-year-old girls enjoyed dressing up and feeling pampered from everyone from the valet to the hostess to the waitress. We always have a good time here - great service, delicious food, beautiful views. Would recommend highly and will come back often. Thank you!
Great evening. Window table without asking! I went here with a priest friend I hadn't seen for a while. We ordered a drink and appetizer plate and commenced to catch up on old times. Not once did we feel pressured to order or move the meal forward. Once we ordered, it came out hot and well prepared. The waiters were attentive to our every need. After the meal, we continued discussions again with no sense of urgency to vacate the table. (It was a slow time for them; otherwise we would have wrapped things up right away.) overall, a great experience. Definitely coming back again.
The worst service I have ever received in a restaurant of this caliber. Our party was not seated together, 13 people with one waitress who had other tables, drinks took forever to get, apps came out at different times and dinners all came out at different times and one person never got their dinner. We were so disappointed with our evening it was disheartening.
On rather short notice I was able to book a table for 4 at The Chart House. Our friends from out of town were coming in and when I searched Open Table TCH came up. I thought that it would be fun to be on the river and none of us had ever been there.
I booked a table ( requested window) and was ok with a near window table for 4. The menu is detailed and packed with a wonderful selection of fish, with numerous toppings and grilling options. We started with a chocolate bourbon drink that was exquisite! Worth the trip for sure.
We had to ask our server for bread two times and he was not as polished as one would expect for a restaurant of this caliber. Our appetizers were excellent including the Bruschetta and Seafood stack with mango topping.
The salad bar was ok as many of the reviews had commented. Then to our entrees
The Ahi tuna with scallops was superb , as well as the Flounder stuffed with crab, but the swordfish spaetzel was a bit dry. The Mahi mahi was nicely prepared. I asked for water refills 3 times. The bottle of wine was a nice compliment to our meal. I was surprised that a manager never visited us to check on our experience.
We like fish ( and burbon) so we will be back but can understand why so many others mentioned the lackluster service. Hopefully experience and management will help but the chefs did an exceptional job.
