Chart House Restaurant - Newport (Cincinnati) Ratings and Reviews
Great evening. Window table without asking! I went here with a priest friend I hadn't seen for a while. We ordered a drink and appetizer plate and commenced to catch up on old times. Not once did we feel pressured to order or move the meal forward. Once we ordered, it came out hot and well prepared. The waiters were attentive to our every need. After the meal, we continued discussions again with no sense of urgency to vacate the table. (It was a slow time for them; otherwise we would have wrapped things up right away.) overall, a great experience. Definitely coming back again.
The worst service I have ever received in a restaurant of this caliber. Our party was not seated together, 13 people with one waitress who had other tables, drinks took forever to get, apps came out at different times and dinners all came out at different times and one person never got their dinner. We were so disappointed with our evening it was disheartening.
On rather short notice I was able to book a table for 4 at The Chart House. Our friends from out of town were coming in and when I searched Open Table TCH came up. I thought that it would be fun to be on the river and none of us had ever been there.
I booked a table ( requested window) and was ok with a near window table for 4. The menu is detailed and packed with a wonderful selection of fish, with numerous toppings and grilling options. We started with a chocolate bourbon drink that was exquisite! Worth the trip for sure.
We had to ask our server for bread two times and he was not as polished as one would expect for a restaurant of this caliber. Our appetizers were excellent including the Bruschetta and Seafood stack with mango topping.
The salad bar was ok as many of the reviews had commented. Then to our entrees
The Ahi tuna with scallops was superb , as well as the Flounder stuffed with crab, but the swordfish spaetzel was a bit dry. The Mahi mahi was nicely prepared. I asked for water refills 3 times. The bottle of wine was a nice compliment to our meal. I was surprised that a manager never visited us to check on our experience.
We like fish ( and burbon) so we will be back but can understand why so many others mentioned the lackluster service. Hopefully experience and management will help but the chefs did an exceptional job.
The staff was friendly, professional, and polite. The food was great and the view and ambiance were very good. I took out of town (out of the country) guests and they thought it was very special. I had been before, but must remember to go back more often. Even though we live in Northest Cincinnati, it is worth the drive and is a nice change from our usual spots.
We’ve had great experiences here in the past but our evening was not as pleasant due to the lack of good service. The staff seemed stretched to the limits with 2 large parties and a full dining room. Multiple mistakes were made with our bar & food orders. We will give it another try once the busy season has passed but better training of staff would be beneficial.
The food was good. the service was fine. But it did not correlate with the cost of the food.
It was just little things. I asked if I could switch a baked potato for the mashed potatoes. On the menu the cost of the baked was maybe 50-!.00 more. But I was charged $2.50 more. (maybe because of the sour cream and bacon??) . The waiter asked if I would like A1 Sauce or Bernaise. I said yes to the Bernaise. On the check I was charged $2.00 for it.
Would I come back? probably not, too many other restaurants to go to
Got the Thanksgiving Dinner. The turkey was good, but the stuffing wasn't very tasty. The cranberry sauce was not very good, and the pumpkin pie was a huge disappointment. And at $58 for 2, I would have had a much better turkey dinner at Cracker Barrel for less than half that price.
Staff was friendly. Three out of four entrees were very good. One, entree, swordfish, was dry and lacked flavor. Wine selection was good. Deserts were good. Only service issue was waitress failed to communicate that fresh fish entrees came with side items, which was not spelled out on the menu. We ordered side dishes that we could not eat because of too much food.
Food was overpriced. Server was inattentive - did not give us plates for appetizers, even though our food was sitting ON the tablecloth. Wine was out of stock. Salad bar was out of the salad, and ridiculous at $9 apiece. Restrooms were filthy. No indicators on website that only parking was valet. Could have dined at so many better places for half the price. Not recommended.
It wasn’t bad after we were seated. Was told the restaurant was full when we walked in the front door. I informed them we had a reservation for 4 and we were promptly seated. The whole time we were there, there were only a few tables occupied and many unoccupied by guests.
The view of the river and city were beautiful and the service was friendly although a slow for drink refills. I had the Prime Rib the servings size was good it was a little to raw for medium rare and was almost tasteless. The horseradish sauce helped. Our bill was almost $200 for 3 of us.
We have always been pleased with the dining experience here, whether as a couple, office party, special occasions with family or dinner with friends. Our dinner with friends this past Saturday was, as usual, extremely enjoyable; we were seated where requested, conversation was easily heard, food was excellent and well presented, we were made to feel comfortable lingering over dessert/coffee as long as we liked. The riverfront location and view is a bonus. One of our favorite places to take out of town guests.
This was a family birthday celebration. We've been there many times over the years. I guess I would have to say that my feeling is that the days of the posh, special treatment at restaurants in Greater Cincinnati is pretty much over with maybe one or two exceptions. Everything now is shorts and flip flops and very average service, no matter the price. For special occasions, I don't mind paying more to have a really special experience, but this was not that only because of overall interaction with staff. The food was really very, very good; but it took FOREVER to get even before the restaurant was crowded. (I normally dine earlier to beat the crowd.) We ordered pretty much some of everything and it was all prepared perfectly; but the service (not just our server, who was nice, but not all that attentive) was very average. I did not feel special or appreciated, I only felt everyone was going through the motions to say what they had been instructed to say. I used to feel confident bringing out of town guests here and knowing they would really enjoy it, but I'd have to say Management needs to step it up if they want to keep customer base. There is too much competition for business to just treat customers like they are expendable. Kudos to the chef, though! And I mean this to be constructive, not negative. Still a good meal.
The view is lovely and the staff is very friendly. The food was a bit disappointing for a restaurant in this class. The asparagus was large and tough, my fish was dry and did not have a lot of flavor. The salad bar was out of Caesar salad. This restaurant needs to up its' game on the food experience to remain competitive with the many fine dining restaurants in Cincinnati.
