Chart House Restaurant - Newport (Cincinnati) Ratings and Reviews
It wasn’t bad after we were seated. Was told the restaurant was full when we walked in the front door. I informed them we had a reservation for 4 and we were promptly seated. The whole time we were there, there were only a few tables occupied and many unoccupied by guests.
The view of the river and city were beautiful and the service was friendly although a slow for drink refills. I had the Prime Rib the servings size was good it was a little to raw for medium rare and was almost tasteless. The horseradish sauce helped. Our bill was almost $200 for 3 of us.
We have always been pleased with the dining experience here, whether as a couple, office party, special occasions with family or dinner with friends. Our dinner with friends this past Saturday was, as usual, extremely enjoyable; we were seated where requested, conversation was easily heard, food was excellent and well presented, we were made to feel comfortable lingering over dessert/coffee as long as we liked. The riverfront location and view is a bonus. One of our favorite places to take out of town guests.
This was a family birthday celebration. We've been there many times over the years. I guess I would have to say that my feeling is that the days of the posh, special treatment at restaurants in Greater Cincinnati is pretty much over with maybe one or two exceptions. Everything now is shorts and flip flops and very average service, no matter the price. For special occasions, I don't mind paying more to have a really special experience, but this was not that only because of overall interaction with staff. The food was really very, very good; but it took FOREVER to get even before the restaurant was crowded. (I normally dine earlier to beat the crowd.) We ordered pretty much some of everything and it was all prepared perfectly; but the service (not just our server, who was nice, but not all that attentive) was very average. I did not feel special or appreciated, I only felt everyone was going through the motions to say what they had been instructed to say. I used to feel confident bringing out of town guests here and knowing they would really enjoy it, but I'd have to say Management needs to step it up if they want to keep customer base. There is too much competition for business to just treat customers like they are expendable. Kudos to the chef, though! And I mean this to be constructive, not negative. Still a good meal.
The view is lovely and the staff is very friendly. The food was a bit disappointing for a restaurant in this class. The asparagus was large and tough, my fish was dry and did not have a lot of flavor. The salad bar was out of Caesar salad. This restaurant needs to up its' game on the food experience to remain competitive with the many fine dining restaurants in Cincinnati.
We ordered from the early dining menu. We weren't told about it but had to ask since we used it in the past. Food was very tasty and a good value including soup and dessert. But they could have included some veggies. It was just salmon on top of mashed potatoes and the plate had a lot of empty space! Yes it was a "value" meal but seriously...Bonefish does it better
Have eaten there 3-4 times over the years. Not sure what happened to training server staff. Server came up to table and asked for our order, never asked us if we wanted something to drink. When he came back to tell two of us they only had one portion of a fish left and what else would would like to order (without menus might I add) we had to ask if it would be possible to order a drink... Food was not as good as in past, Go to Fish Market instead.
It was my birthday, there was a special menu with my name on it they gave me happy birthday wrapped in a pretty ribbon service was exceptional the food was exceptional the place was beautiful the view is beautiful two great romantic place to go they have a great salad bar I had king crab legs they were awesome there are chocolate lava cake is to die for seriously it was excellent
I went to The Chart House last night (10/7/17) for my birthday dinner and couldn't have been more disappointed! This restaurant came highly recommended and I'm so confused as to how. I had a reservation at 8pm and arrived about 7:55pm. The table was not ready but I was okay with that since I was 5min early (still no excuse but I let it slide). At 8:24pm I, along with my guest still hasn't been seated because "they were still setting up". Upon seeing my frustration, a host walked us back only to leave us standing in a crowded dining area right at the open salad bar for about 3min because she said the table she was supposed to take us to wasn't the right table. Finally she came back and seated us at a table the was way too large for the size of my party. We were then left at the table another 5min or so while they figured it out. At this point we were moved to our final destination. We were eventually able to order and when the food came my steak was not cooked properly, my potatoes were cold and my asparagus was nowhere to be found (b/c the server "forgot" to ring them in smh). Whatever my sister ordered was all in one bowl mixed together and half of her food was cold and the other half was hot; how that happens I don't know. My cousin's steak was cooked wrong and her potatoes were cold. We sent our food back and my steak came out BURNED AND DRY ( still no asparagus with is), my cousin's meat still wasn't right and my sister's food was barely warmer.
The best the manager could do at the point was offer a dry apology and suggest that I have dessert on her, smh. Finally she decided that she would throw in an ice cream sampler but I was over it, I didn't want anything from this establishment. They messed up the two other bills and had an attitude about it.
Needless to say, I sat in a restaurant over three hours and did not eat anything! Thanks Chart House for ruining my birthday celebration!
We were So Glad that, this time, we were greeted by people who said, "hello". There has been a problem with that in the past. Receptionists before said nothing even when spoken to. Every person, wait staff, and otherwise, was cordial and helpful. We Love having the salad bar as dinner and a dessert before we go to the Symphony -- and at other times too.
We visited Chart House on Saturday evening after a matinee performance at the Aronoff Center. The drive from Cincinnati to the Chart House was easy and quick. Upon arriving our car was parked by the valet and we were greeted warmly inside by the hostess. Arriving early for our reservation wasn't a problem and we were seated in a lovely table with a fantastic view. Our servers, Stephanie and Kate, were both outstanding. Stephanie took the lead as Kate is still in training, describing the menu offerings perfectly and providing guidance where we requested. The trio soup is delicious for an appetizer, as is the cedar plank salmon for an entree. And yes, add the Oscar topping to the salmon. You'll want to also say yes to the chocolate lava cake and if you can't decide on either vanilla or strawberry ice cream, do what we did and have the cake served with vanilla, and request a dish of strawberry on the side. Celebrating the marriage of our dear friends, the Chart House did not disappoint.
Very attentive service. It was our anniversary, noted in the reservation, and they took the time to print customized menus. The entire staff took time to congratulate us and made us feel very welcomed.
Food was excellent also, and a fabulous view of Cincinnati. Get there early-ish to grab a window seat!
This was my first time at Chart House in over 15 years. And, the view and the service did not disappoint. The meal was very good---but it is the ambiance and setting that sets Chart House apart from other riverfront dining experiences. Our server was simply outstanding.
Very loud. Our table was behind a kitchen prep station and we had to inform management we could hear pounding that shook our table.
Service very slow, then waiter had to come back after 45 minutes and say out of Mahi.
Drinks were forgotten.
Salmon was delicious but we waited 2 hours.
