Chart House Restaurant - Monterey Ratings and Reviews
We had a a wonderful time celebrating a late birthday for my wife and a trip to Monterey. It was already dark so we didn’t get to enjoy the beautiful water but we did see lights from homes across the bay and it was lovely! Julius was our waiter, he was knowledgeable, thoughtful and very professional. He was very friendly and we enjoyed our conversation very much. We started with the salad bar, it was unbelievable caviar who has caviar on a all you can eat buffet! My wife was so full from the salad bar she had her dinner boxed to go. But I throughly enjoy my 9 oz filet to the very last bite. Everything from the time we walked through the door until we left was perfect! Will we return? Definitely on our next visit to Monterey. And we will definitely ask for Julius!
Underwhelming, under cooked and overpriced. The ambience here was really great and had such potential with spectacular ocean views and a great selection of fresh fish. Yet from the unbelievably slow service to the dry overcooked salmon and raw under cooked ahi swimming in glassy filmy sauces were were very displeased. The waiter gave us all his recommendations and the everything felt mediocre wanna-be fine dining. (Thought the fresh bread and hummus trio were the only good thing) Everything else was pretty terrible. Even down to the dessert that was mis-ordered by our waiter. We wanted the creme brule trio and he brought out a big saucer of just crème brule- topped with raspberries that had black mold on them! When the correct dessert was brought out, the bottom the the dessert was runny and not thoroughly cooked. Lastly, to top it all off there were three, yes three tables engaged in different stages of fighting and arguments. The atmosphere was very sour because of this. We would not recommend going here ever. Save your money!
It was anazing, the food, the service, everything! It was our anniversary and they customized the menu to say happy anniversary at the top and gave it to us as a souvenir which was awesome!! My fiance and I went on our first date here, and when we got engaged, and now for our first anniversary as an engaged couple. We love it!
We were surprised they actually knew it was an anniversary celebration by reading my reservation information on open table . We were seated with a beautiful view of the water, given menus that said “Happy Anniversary”, and offered a complimentary mid pie for dessert which happens to be our favorite. The waitress was totally tuned into the celebration. I have never had that happen before. The Chart House went above and beyond to make it special.
We celebrated my 62nd birthday and my son & daughter in-laws 2nd year anniversary. Yes, they were married on my 60th two years ago. We have been dining at the Chart House for many years and special occasions. The food is always good and the service is exceptional. Thank you for another great evening. See you again soon!
We made an online Birthday dinner reservation for a party of 3. We had a couple tasty appetizers: coconut prawns and kimchi calamari. (don't be afraid of the name) We had Prosecco, a wine flight, and a we enjoyed the Chardonnay so much that we ordered a bottle of it. I had the prime rib. It was medium rare as requested. We also had dessert, and a slice of birthday mud pie. The staff was very personable, and made the birthday very special.
Was there in a very busy Friday night. The server was obviously overwhelmed. Thugs got better as it slowed down. Chowder was great. Oysters Rockefeller were good, thought not all white wine cooked out from spinach and I could really taste it. My husband had chippino. I personally do not like and think the shell fish is over cooked. The lava cake was great as always.
Food was very decent. Not the best cHart house experience. But very tasty. Ambiance was great. Gorgeous restaurant. Our service was a bit ehhhh.... Never got asked if we wanted the lava cake. No refills on drinks... We totally would've ordered seconds if not thirds. Not asked for upgrades( sides, desserts anything) nothing... it was very in and out...
It was very loud with kids running and jumping around. Our server seemed rather inexperienced. She just was not attentive like the staff has been all the other times we have dined at the Chart House. The food was good as usual, but the overall experience was a bit disappointing. Also, the salad bar could have been maintained a little better. It was very busy and was probably overlooked by staff.
This is one of the most overrated, terrible restaurants I've ever been too. I went there because of the great reviews, views, and ambience to celebrate my husband's birthday. It tasted like the hummus was from a can, the fish was just ok, the service was not great, and the food overall was nothing special. We spent $160 for 2 adults and 1 child and it was a disgrace. What a sham.
We commenced a two week trip driving of the California coast in Monterey. Tired after two flights and a drive from San Francisco - this was the way to kickstart our vacation on a great note !
Service was attentive and friendly - wine ( we drank local .. a J. Lohr Pinot) and food advice were excellent - the food presentation , food textures and preparation all met our expectations and the ambiance ( glass windows right overlooking Monterey Bay) - all this “woke us up” and gave us a lovely way to end a long travel day
1. 30 min. wait for an 8:00 pm reservation... hmm, should have hit the bar for a drink, after all it was Jan.1! ...Restaurant appeared rather empty!
2. Nice waiter comes over to let us know our waiter is busy but if we would like to order a drink he’d put it in for us! ...Yes, please!
3. Hmm, we wait... no drinks no waiter!
4. Still waiting... awe, yes! Our waiter comes by to introduce himself and repeats the drink order.
5. Still waiting... waiter appears, takes order! We request water!
6. Bread arrives! No water, no cocktail! Another 10 min. Pass...
7. First waiter stops to say drinks are almost ready but to go ahead to the salad bar. Awe, main waiter brings drinks just as we were heading to the salad bar.
8. Done with salads, done with our drink, waiting for food, still waiting, hmm... 9:15 / 2 orders of Prime Rib and Mashed Potatoes, a side of Sizzling Mushrooms shouldn’t be to hard? ...and where is our water??
9. Yea, food!! We’re warned that the plates are hot! Yum!!!I can’t wait ... Oh no, the food is cold! We usher our waiter over... off the plates go!! Another 10 min. Wait!!!! A full kitchen staff and cooks..maybe one third of the restaurant full! Food arrives, “very good” we both comment!
10. Hey, where’s the mushrooms?? Well, the waiter forgot!
11. While we enjoyed our dessert of Sizzling Mushrooms, we noticed another waiter to our left, meticulously cleaning wine glasses with a properly folded towel. Each time he shined a wine glass, he held it to the light for inspection, a second person would set it on a clean table for service. A third person, we referred to as “quality control” would take the wine glass off the freshly set table, bring it to the lamp adjacent to our table for further inspection. Holding it up to the light, swirling this way and that, then replacing to the table. She was very serious! This went on the entire time we ate our meal! It was like we were watching Sat. Night Live!! A huge staff doing everything but... Customerservice!
My wife and I were celebrating the 52nd anniversary of our first date. The atmosphere was comfortable and the window table was just the thing for us. We each enjoyed our meals which were of suitable portion size. Our server was attentive and helpful. Our food arrived warm and delicious.
Chart House has been around for a long time and quite frankly, was pleasantly surprised this location was still around.
Overall, the food was nothing surprising and a bit on the average side. The prime rib was on the dry side and the filet was over cooked. The NY Steak was well seasoned and cooked well. We had the lava cake for desert and it was rich and decadent. The AYCE salad bar resembled something similar to a “Soup Plantation.”
The reataurant could use a little face lift. It felt a little outdated when compared to other steakhouses I’ve dined at - Morton’s, Flemmings, Maestro’s, etc. There are other steakhouses nearby but, be prepared to pay an average of $10-$15 more per plate.
The view is great at this restaurant. Service was a little slow but, our server was attentive and accommodating.
Overall, it was an average dining experience. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you’re more interested in the view than the food.
WORST dinner we had in 2017!! Went for NYE, waited 1/2 hour past our reservation to be seated at table next to bar! Terrible! Asked to move to a different table and was told "those tables are for 4". I could wait another 1/2 hours. Watched other couples be seated at those same tables for 4. Our server finally moved us to a so so table next to the busing station.... and that same hostess seated the loud mouth from the bar right behind me.
The food was terrible. The under cooked asparagus & bread were the only 2 things eatable. My Salmon was way over cooked and dried out.... and served plain? I had to ask for the butter caper sauce... the mashed potatoes were like a pile of glue, must have been the bottom of the pot, and they were out of green beans.
REALLY disappointing for a New Years Eve Dinner. I will never eat here again!!
The location is beautiful. My only wish would have been for a clear night. The food was delicious. I had the black and blue salmon and a chart house salad. The shrimp and scallops were yummy as well. The device wasn't very good and the furniture was old and dingy.
After being seated, the waitress came by to take our drink order and told us that they were short staffed in the kitchen so the wait time for food could be longer than usual. We were in no hurry so that was fine. We ordered an appetizer which was good. My wife ordered a salad for her entree and I ordered sea bass. Before the entrees showed up we ordered another glass of wine and another beer with the main course. My order showed up but my wife's salad never came, nor my beer. We shared my entree and the waitress gave me a beer for free since she forgot it. We cancelled the salad and asked for the bill. When the bill came, they charged me for one glass of wine and a bottle of wine vs just two glasses. That bumped the bill by $40. additional. The table right next to us had a similar issue with their bill. Not sure if this is an ongoing issue with that particular Chart House but my advise is check your bill (always) before providing your credit card. The manager apologized and told me she gladly took the bottle of wine and salad off the bill for me. Really? Thanks a lot since I never received either. Like she was doing me a favor. I felt bad for the waitress as she did her job and it was clearly the management and order input person who were clearly incompetent.
We have always enjoyed our past dining experiences at the Chart House Restaurant when visiting the Monterey area. However, this time, it was a Big disappointment. Our waiter would disappear for long periods of time. We waited one hour and 10 minutes for our appetizer, and when it was served, it was not prepared as requested. The waiter's comment was "Well, I told them!" and left. Much later, when our entree was served, it was served cold. We requested our check, paid our bill and left.
Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. We went there for Christmas dinner and we were not disappointed. Our reservation was for 7:00 and we were seated on time. A drink was accidentally spilled and we were given a complimentary dessert. Service was exceptional as was the food. Would recommend without any hesitation.
It is very difficult to obtain good seating when there are two people. We had requested a window table or at least a table on the outlook side of the raised area. And while there were many, many tables available and we had made the reservations for an early seating (5pm), we were told there was only one table available for us. A small table, against a back wall in the corner. Unfortunately, you are directly side-by-side with other tables.
Very noisy and not comfortable for a Christmas Day dinner. Terrible ambiance. While the food was fairly good, we felt like we were in a diner. :((
No longer on our list for special occasions.
