Chart House Restaurant - Monterey Ratings and Reviews
Have been at this same restaurant many times over the years. I am a Landry member. When my wife and I arrived with our reservations the receptionist smirked at my wife and said it would be an hour. Half the tables were empty! I asked to see the manager and it took a second request before she proceeded to call him. He was polite and said the receptionist was rude but he was unable to change anything. In the time we were there waiting 2 couples came and left mad and did not stay to eat. The plates inside the refrigerated salad plate area included at least 5 dirty plates with frozen around the uncleaned food. For a restaurant at the price point of Chart House I definitely expect more. Will not be back for a long time.
We have eaten at this restaurant at least 40 times over the years and have always been pleased with the food. This time was different. My husband and I both ordered filets, medium well. They were served rare at best. As soon as our waitress saw them, she said those are rare and took them back. She returned to tell us we were getting different steaks.... well, different they were! They had butterflied the steaks they gave us the second time, and they were still rare at best. So, she took them back a second time. This time she also informed the general manager of what was taking place. He immediately came to our table and apologized profusely, said they would comp our dinner and dessert, but the damage was already done to ruin our dinner. He told us the grill master, Kevin, had been there 15 years and couldn't understand what had happened. ????? When the steaks were returned the third time they were crispy critters. They looked like they had been put directly in the fire and charred. We tried to eat some of them, but they were terrible. Like I said, this is the first time this has happened to us here, but it was our anniversary, and we were both very disappointed to say the least. We'll try them again, but we plan to take a break before returning.
A true gem. The aesthetic was both elegant and cosy, rustic yet refined. The cuisine was excellent. Chefs pay creative homage to classic dishes but with novel twists that make every menu item interesting. Be sure to take advantage of their great seasonal fare.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately this was not one of our most memorable occasions. Our waiter was friendly but appeared to be inexperienced at serving multiple tables concurrently. He seemed rushed most of the time and failed to check in with our table on a reasonable schedule. This resulted in significant delays in the arrival of our dinners and post-dinner table cleanup. The waiter did offer me a birthday dessert but it appeared to be an afterthought on his part which resulted in further delay which ultimately caused us to be late for a post-dinner evening event we were attending. I need to emphasize the waiter was pleasant and appeared to be trying his best. In my opinion he just lacked the experience to manage multiple tables during the restaurant's busy (Friday evening) time period.
Two of our party ordered the prime rib. It was quite fatty -- not terrible but fatty and thus a bit tough to chew. However it was not bad enough to warrant requesting the waiter's assistance. Frankly given the delay in serving the meals we really did not have enough time to have the waiter secure replacement meals.
Everything else was good or outstanding as is usually the case at this restaurant.
While the Chart House is definitely a bit old hat, it does deliver on a great classic experience.
We got there early for our reservation on the Saturday after thanksgiving and we were seated within 5 mins of our res time. We were seated and had an amazing waiter who catered to my girlfriend's 30th bday very well. Great food and nice ambience.
I visit Monterey often and this is my third visit to the restaurant. On this particular visit, the service was "ok". Upon being seated, the table was missing bread dishes and we also had to ask for a serving of bread. The waiter was friendly, but inattentive. Our water glasses were often not filled consistently and we waited awhile for simple items such as the dessert menu to be presented to us. We were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant/waiter were aware of this, but nothing was mentioned or a complimentary item offered. This is by far not a cheap restaurant and we expected a higher, personalized level of service. I will probably not visit this restaurant again given that there are many other options in the city.
Absolutely Wonderful !, the Food, Service, Ambiance, and world class Dessert... Not our first rodeo, we visited the Chart House Monterey on our Wedding Night 32 years ago! and felt the same feeling as then, staff went out of their way to make us feel important and welcomed 5⭐️
This is our 3rd year of having a traditional turkey dinner at Chart House. I compared to the first two years' meals as comparable to those of my mom and my aunt. Excellent! This year we thought the creamed spinach, the sweet potato and the bread were superior. The mashed potatoes were good. The turkey dressing was dry although we were able to get some extra gravy to make it tasty. The turkey, however, was dry. It flaked into chips when cut into. Very disappointing. The pumpkin pie was good but not up to previous years. Still, with such excellent service and fine ambience we shall probably be back next year.
My husband wanted a thanksgiving turkey meal. It was a fixed price and we thought that would be ok. Turned out the turkey was from a loaf and not looking or tasting at all like a regular roasted bird. No gravy for the mashed potatoes or the stuffing. Pumpkin pie was a bit grainy and room temperature with melted whipped cream on top. I didn't know there was a dessert menu--was never offered that at all, and only heard other patrons being offered a look after we'd received our bill.
Service was VERY slow. We'd asked to split the Caesar Salad but they forgot. The plate looked filthy though upon examination I think they' d just moved the food around a bit and didn't clean up the plate before presenting it. Lettuce was a bit limp because it was drowning in dressing. They did bring another plate so we could share.
My husband didn't want the creamed spinach with his meal but he got it anyway. We had to ask for bread & the brown bread was delicious. But all in all it was a serious disappointment. We've eaten at and enjoyed several Chart House restaurants through the years and I hope this was just a bad and way too busy day for them but I don't think we'll be going back.
Went here for my first wedding anniversary with my Husband and was amazed, as always! It is a little pricey, we’ve only ever been 3 times in the 6 years we’ve been together, but it’s our favorite place to go for special occasions. Our service was great, the food and drinks were amazing, and all the staff was friendly!
As an entrant we ordered 12 Oysters. When these oysters were served, we still were waiting for the wine that we ordered. „The wine is on its way“. We had to wait another 5 Minutes sitting in front of our oysters.
After the arrival of the wine we could start our dinner. However by the smell of two oysters we we found out that 2 of them were bad, absolutely not recommended for consumption. It is unbelievable that the kitchen was not able to detect this by themselves. Everybody knows what the consequences of eating bad oysters are.
After this (this kitchen said sorry and took it off the bill). As a main course we received fish. But this meal couldn’t improve our mood at all. The fish was served in a somehow „Asian“ style. But the result was a fish, the taste completely covered by a complete sweetness: sweet rice, sweet potato, sweet vegetable - all in all terrible. The food was a complete waist of money. The only excellent things remember are the very friendly hostess at the entrance, the very nice interior/ ambiance, the excellent wine and the fresh sparkling water
The Chart House never dissapoints. We dine here at least once a year for our anniversary. This year, we went for our birthdays too. They service is impeccable and they pay attention to detail. The food is always cooked to perfection, and the pricing will not break your pockets.
