The Chart House used to be great - was always pricey but worth it. Now it's just pricey. The bread was stale and/or microwaved. The prawn and scallop entree was very underwhelming. The rice was a congealed salty mess. The scallops were OK, but the shrimp were tiny and tasteless. Too bad.
Our waitresses Sunny seemed to struggle a bit during our meal; forgetful would be the term. At the end of our meal, she placed our anniversary menu on another couple’s table who seemed clueless as to what she was thanking them for. When I requested the menu she grabbed it off of their table and then presented it to me after I had requested assistance from the bartender in obtaining the menu.
Overall, the meal was great, but the service was not up to what we’ve come to expect from our previous dining experiences at the restaurant.
excellent service, wonderful food quality, nice environment. We'll book again.
For a restaurant in Monterey it did not have much in the way of a fish selection. It would have better if we would have eaten on the Pier. My wife who loves most fish selected the crab cake which was extremely salty. I selected the chicken which was not very tasty and extremely expensive for what little I got. The two small pieces of breast in panko has a very oily taste and overcooked.
It has been a long time since we dined at the Chart House and were excited to see that Monterey Charthouse was still open vs. all the other Chart House restaurants that have closed. While the stunning ambiance, located on Monterey Bay is spectacular, the service does not add up to a worthwhile one of a kind dining experience. Music was too loud and not suitible for the environment. The staff just seemed to be reading from a handbook and not at all a genuine first-class dining experience. What was the icing on the cake was the sales pitch at the end of the meal. The Chart House has an incredible legacy and unfortunately, currently is a let down.
The service was great and speed of food arriving to table was perfect. The only thing that will keep me from coming back is the quality of the food for the price. I went out for my anniversary dinner and wanted something special, but this wasn’t it. I ordered a lobster tail as my entree and was disappointed because it was overcooked (rubbery). Later I tried my partners filet and that was so delicious I wish I had ordered that. Really was looking forward to eating seafood here because of the location and hype.
No server saw us for 15 minutes after seating. Sticky rice was off. Food was decent but overpriced in general. Otherwise nice interior and location.
We had a great experience. We love the chart house and we be returning!
We had the thanksgiving turkey dinner and it tasted like a TV dinner dry turkey hardly any gravy the mashed potatoes were dry along with the dressing , the dinner overall was the worst turkey dinner we have ever had. The menu read like the dressing was an option so we ordered it as an add on they changed an additional $4 But it was on the plate when we got our dinner, so here we had more awful dry dressing would never had ordered it had it been noted on the menu that it came with the dinner so we felt it was a ripoff. The overall dinner was tasteless and dry. The chef should be ashamed of himself for serving dried out tasteless food. Will never again order the special holiday dinner there again probably will not even go there on a holiday period.
The thanksgiving dinner was normally a good value in the past.
This time the stuffing was blah, as was the vegetable. The turkey and potatoes were not hot either.
The chopped salad was very large and excellent.
Service and food was not what we expected
Even though we had to wait a bit for our reservation, it was the best dining experience we had of our four days in Monterey.
Worst Thanksgiving meal at a restaurant ever! Turkey was super salty and dried out. Sides were not made in house and service was subpar. Waiter seemed to be a recent hire and didn’t check back with us. This was our first time dining at a Chart House and we will not go back any time soon.
Excellent customer service and food was delicious.
We celebrate at the chart house all the time. We love the chart house.
The view is wonderful.
Everything was great except for the noise level this time for thanks giving.
It just seemed excessively loud.
Thank you to the servers and kitchen staff for great food and service for a memorable thanksgiving dinner for our extended family from both coasts. All the best to you and your families for a great holiday season and thank you again
Bowen party Thanksgiving 2019 !
I make it a policy not to make recommendations to family or friends. The Thanksgiving meal we had was just OK. Not remarkable. We were disappointed.
Chart House is a long time restaurant serving the Monterey area - locals and visitors alike. Their service is terrific. They do a nice job of keeping their menu up to date. Of course, we recommend you make room for their yummy Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert.
Server was excellent! We still love your salad bar. Sirloin was good, yet a bit dry.
The food was wonderful but the service wasn’t good.
I had to get my wife her steak knife, we never got water or anything to drink and until I got up to get them. We ordered and no one checked on us at all until dinner arrived
Delicious!! Excellent and fresh seafood. Great ambiance right on the water. Lovely.
Warren our waiter was great. Everything was special including our table.
The bar waiter and our table waiter were very cordial and attentive, but they did not smile once. We also noticed that none of the waitstaff seemed to be happy. It was busy, but a smile would've made a difference. The food and drinks did taste good.
The Chart House is our go to restaurant when we take our grandkids to the aquarium. We let them pick the restaurant and they love The Chart House. The kid menu is great and offers outstanding prime rib for the kids.
The wonderful staff and our server Nelson was fabulous but my swordfish was truly horrible. It had a salty gremolatatgat did work with the tomato sauce. Considering how much is was I wouldn’t go back.
My boyfriend and I decided to have dinner here for our anniversary. We had reservations for 7pm on 11/16, but we didn’t get seated until about 7:30pm which isn’t too big of a deal. We were seated next to the window which was beautiful. We were seated for not even 5 mins yet and our waiter came to take our food order.. we asked for a couple more mins to look at the menu and he returned again in a minute. Felt kinda pressured because we weren’t done looking at the menu yet. I overheard the other waiter ask a table if they were celebrating something special. Kinda felt bummed that our waiter didn’t ask us that or really have any small talk with us. I wished that our waiter wasn’t so formal even tho it is a higher end restaurant. Our waiter did bring us a mud pie on the house after I told him we were celebrating our anniversary. He also gave us a menu that says “Happy Anniversary”. I’ve seen from other reviews that they can customize it with your names, but we didn’t get that.. Overall, the food and view was amazing.
We had the corner table with glass at two sides overlooking the ocean, with good food and service, it was Awesome!
Beautiful location on the waterfront. Great food and drinks.
We had a lovely experience and excellent meal!
Thanks to ALL
We waited 1/2 hour for our reservation. We were on time. We are Charthouse Members. Restaurant was 1/2 empty. Waiter brought our drinks.......finally......when we were getting our entree. Extremely poor service. Very disappointed with our visit this time. This restaurant has declined substantially. Our last visit here the service was not as bad, but it was still not great. Slow decline....sad to see it happen.
We, a party of 7, were seated at a window table as requested & had the very best view. Service was professional & also friendly by our waiter, Warren. Very efficient & we did not feel rushed. Great wine list. Food outstanding. Everyone more than pleased with food. Dessert (Lava cake) was to die for. Special birthday cheesecake with candle was brought to my daughter as they knew it was her birthday. I had mistakenly left her present in the waiting area & when I discovered my error, I ran to the desk. The girl at the desk had retrieved it & placed it on the back counter. Very appreciative of this. Overall, the experience was wonderful. We will be returning, no doubt.
We did not find the food delightful. Clam chowder not good. Lava cake was dry. Three out of the four not impressed with their entree
Always wonderful. We look forward to eating here for all our important dates and events.
Everything about this place is amazing.
Always consistent food and service. Prime rib is the best!!!
Really some great service, food, and atmosphere, especially considering the fact it was Veteran’s Day. I did miss the VIP card and flower that used to be placed on the table when I made an online reservation, but the server Willian (sp) was super attentive and kind. The restaurant may have been crowded but we felt like we were in our own private restaurant until the table sat behind us and blocked access to our seats on one side. Not the server’s fault! Just an observation.
We loved the evening and look forward to joining you for dinner again soon.
It was my anniversary and we were treated so well, even got surprised with a free dessert.
Overpriced restaurant with average food. The old fashioned was not good. It takes work to mess up a drink as simple as that.
My wife and I had dinner at Chart House to celebrate her birthday. Great combination of view, high quality food, and service.
Outstanding food & outstanding ambiance. Beautiful view of Monterey Bay. Drink refills a little slow, but otherwise good service. A perfect place to celebrate a birthday. Free mud pie to the birthday person, with spoons to share. Both steaks & seafood done perfectly.
