Chart House Restaurant - Melbourne Ratings and Reviews
I have been many times to the Melbourne, FL restaurant and have always been pleased - until this past Sunday. I brought a friend to celebrate her birthday and have a Sunday brunch. We we seated immediately (I had a reservation) and it looked like it was going to be another wonderful Sunday brunch. There was no potato nor pasta salad at the salad bar this time and my poached eggs on the Traditional Eggs Benedict were overcooked. Also, our waitress, who has provided excellent service in the past, brought the check but neglected to ask if we wanted coffee or dessert. She appeared to be upset because my guest and I wanted coffee and she had to redo the bill. I will continue to visit the Chart House because out of many times I have been there, this is the only time I have been disappointed. Hopefully, this was just a one-off and things will be better next time.
The service was very good, we got there for a late dinner and one of their waiters cleared a table for us to sit by the windows facing the ocean. The place was full with a lot of friendly conversations going on, The menu offered a number of interesting alternatives. The food was good and well prepared.
The service was very good. Some of what we ordered was up to the level of the price, however overall at that price point I would expect a bit higher quality. We ordered the crab stuffed flounder and New York strip. For the price charged they should have used fresh crab in the stuffing. The steak was a bit tough and lacked flavor. The facility itself while nicely decorated is far to noisy for an intimate dining experience.
As usual, the food and decor were great. It's always a treat to eat at Chart House. I love that there is still caviar at the salad bar!
Two things detracted from our experience; our waiter was not very attentive, he left our oyster plates on the table for 10-15 minutes after we finished. He never came back by to check if we needed anything else one our entrees arried, and when removing dishes from the table, left a plate of shrimp tails sit on the table - these stayed until we paid the bill.
Also, it was very noisy! We were celebrating Valentine's Day, but couldn't really carry on a conversation with each other.
The food was good. When I made the reservation for my husbands birthday I specifically requested a window table. They seated us on the back row. When I told them that I had ask that they reserve us a table by the window I was told by the hostess that “everyone wants a window seat”. That’s all she said and walked away rudely.
We were disappointed because that was our main reason for going there.
I made a reservation for 6:45 on a Sunday night. I got there at 6:35. They said they were running behind. We decided to go to the bar to get a drink. For the first 10 minutes, the bartenders would not even acknowledge our presence. After about 15 minutes we finally got someone to wait on us. They didn’t know how to make our drinks so we need waited another five minutes so she could figure out how to make the drink. When we finally got our drinks our table was ready. We were sat close to 7:10. No apologies from the hostess just a dirty look when we asked how much longer. We were finally sat and given menus. Our waiter came to see that he would be waiting on us got us water and disappeared. We had to ask another waiter to get him so that we could order. Once the food was delivered, we again did not see him. A second time we needed to ask someone to get our waiter so that we could ask a question. I have been to many Chart House restaurants throughout the country. This one by far was the most disappointing. Although the food was pretty good, I don’t know if I would return anytime soon. They were either understaffed or very disorganized.
The food was very good as usual. But......Too crowded. Our fault. Did not realize it would be so busy. Trying to avoid crowds on Valentines Day Wednesday. Also "season". The worst part was that the aIr conditioning was SO COLD. We hurried to leave. Next time we'll come in July.
Great location hitch is its compelling reason to go there. Extremely noisy, had to wait with reservation, overcrowded. Servers are great and special occasion made special. Facility has been changed to seem very dense, hard to move about.
Different from Chart houses of old.
Ordered steak marsala. I have never experienced steak fried crunchy crispy, with approx. six very thin slivers of mushrooms in oil. It was bad! Baked potato was luke warm, would not melt butter or sour cream. However the key lime pie was good to rid the taste and smell of the steak marsala. It has been a while since my last visit, I do not plan on another visit for many years to come.
I will share only the facts of my personal experience in hopes that it will benefit your restaurant in the future. My wife and I brought and old friend from Philadelphia to the Chart House for dinner since our previous experiences at the Philadelphia Chart House were very good. My wife and our friend were very happy with their grouper dinners and we were all pleased with the salad bar. I ordered the Prime Rib Dinner and the quality of the meat was very poor. I ordered my meat medium rare, and it was very difficult to cut to say the least. Although I paid for my dinner I did not eat it. The lady at the table behind us told the waiter that her prime rib simply not acceptable and the waiter apologized and said he would send over the manager. I don't know if this was an isolated incident, but I believe when you pay almost $40.00 for a piece of meat, it should be of good quality.
We went for brunch and were very disappointed. Poor service, sad salad bar with many empty bowls and the brunch menu was limited. They charged $26 for a Denver omelette with packaged fried potatoes. Bacon extra! We never got the coffee we ordered even though there were less than ten tables occupied. You are better off going to a local diner.
We enjoyed our visit and the food and service was exceptional. However, we were seated too close to the bar and it was way too noisy. Next time we go there we will have them seat us as far away as possible from the bar. There were people screaming at the bar and it was very distracting.
