I made a reservation for 5 over a week ahead of time to sit on the patio. I requested this in writing on open table and also made a phone call to confirm two days before our reservation. We get there and were told a large party took up many of the outside tables and we would have to wait because no tables were available outside. The hostess said she had no idea, it could possibly be a long wait. Very disappointed we were bumped. No one told us this could happen. We were all hot sitting inside. Not happy. Never been treated like that at such an expensive restaurant. Made us feel unimportant. Being locals that frequent your restaurant, not a good move on your part.
Food great. Hard to hear. Waiter outstanding.
I asked for medium rare filet and first time was well done second time rare and then they put the rare piece back it was do disappointing
Great prime rib steak.and wine. The Shrimp cocktail was not as good this time as previous times.
The location is terrific and the food was delicious
Everything was absolutely wonderful. Our server was fantastic and very friendly. He took the time to talk with us and checked on us frequently.
We have been there a number of times but this time was almost perfect...
Very disappointing. We dined outside because they told us they couldn’t accommodate 7 people (5 adults, 2 children) inside, but as we were being seated we passed several indoor tables that could have accommodated our party. When it got cooler, we requested another heater since there was only one on one side of the large table that didn’t put out much heat. We were told “only one heater per table”, even though there were empty outdoor tables with unused heaters! And these tables never got used while we were there! The food was mediocre....the corn dip appetizer was so small, served with a scant 12 tortilla chips. There was so little dip, there wasn’t even enough for those chips. The Old Fashion cocktails were watered down, the shrimp was tough, I found shells in my lobster bisque AND my crab stuffed shrimp, and the couscous was bland and tasteless. The shells can sometimes be an issue, and understandable, however, to find shells in TWO dishes just shows a lack of kitchen quality control. On the positive, my mom enjoyed her king crab legs and the children’s Mac and cheese was good. But everything else was not to the standard of what is expected for a fine dining restaurant....not the service, nor the food! Also, some of their practices are questionable from an ethical perspective. When we arrived (at 4:30), the self park parking lot was closed off with a sign “lot full”, which drove people to the $7 valet! Since we had handicap parking, they moved the sign and let us go to self park where the handicap spaces were located. You guessed it, the self park lot was EMPTY! I would not recommend this restaurant.
Our waiter was new with a great attitude of learning and do whatever it would take to make a pleasurable meal experience for us!
The Chart House was nothing special. The food average and over priced. But, this time the service was even less notable.
Just fantastic for a pretty afternoon on Easter! Thank you for wonderful service and quality of food!
Beautiful Easter Day! Lovely view. Awesome date and service. Definitely a great date night!
My husband ordered the shrimp and scallop entree. There were three shrimp and three scallops on his plate and a little bit of vegetable. It was the smallest portion I have seen for the price ($39). The service was a little slow.
We waited 30 minutes and no server. Went to the bar to get water and drinks they said they would send a server over. Ten minutes later a guy came over we ordered food and waited another 30 minutes . We asked for bread and it never came. The salad was over dressed and wilted. The chicken was very then and dry We asked for the check another 20 minutes. We were very disappointed.
You can't go wrong at the Chart House. Even on a busy Easter holiday the service was great, the food was outstanding, and we can't wait to go back there.
I went there yesterday for Easter brunch and they were packed it was great to see that the restaurant is recovering but boy did they fall short. Valet area was a complete mess with cars blocking the entrance. Prime rib came out medium well, almost well done when we specifically ordered medium rare. Since they were busy, we didn't mention anything to the server and just chewed it down. The WORST part is the stairwell, they definitely need to do a better job at crowd control when it's that busy. My MIL who is in her 80's went up stairs first and we followed closely behind. Unfortunately as a group of people were coming down at the same time, we wait until they passed and that's when we heard OH MY GOD ARE YOU OK? We tried going up there as fast as we could and found my MIL in her knees as she had fell!!! She couldn't even get up right away because people were just crowding the area. This could have turned REALLY UGLY! DO BETTER!
Surprising that the Easter menu was no more than the normal dinner menu effectively 6 hours early - no brunch items/no sandwiches......................just an early dinner
Service was extremely slow - not the fault of those working - understaffed
Stick with dinners - forget about any holiday brunch in the future
GREAT SELECTION OF FOODS ALL PROPERLY SERVED AND PREPARED.
Reception was a bit unorganized, friendly but could have been more welcoming.
We expected more of an Easter brunch menu but certainly understood the need to focus on your traditional menu.
Thank you and welcome back! The Chart House is among our favorite restaurants.
My family had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the entire experience
Very disappointed with this experience. Made a reservation for an indoor table and when we got there, the place was packed. The staff said it would be a long wait for an indoor table even with a reservation. We sat outside and it was very cold. We waited a long time in the cold for our food. We had one heat lamp but it was quite windy. Another table had 2 heaters, we asked for another one and they said they could not do that, then we watched them provide more than one heater to other tables. They gave us dirty tablescloths to use as blankets. Needless to say, it was not a good experience.
Excellent dinner and view! Beautiful anniversary dinner, they were very accommodating with my gluten allergy. Having celiac can make it challenging to dine out, but they understood and I had a delicious meal of lobster tail with an ice cream desert.
Excellent time! Perfect birthday dinner for my Wife!
I had the 18 Oz ribeye and it lacked flavor. It was the worst steak I had. Definitely wasn't worth the money I spent. My girlfriend had the salmon and it also lacked flavor. We went own our anniversary and did not enjoyed the food. The drinks and appetizer we had was really good.
Overall everything was very good, service was less than expected, slow (seemed like only one server for too many tables). Willing to write that off to just coming back from the Covid shutdown.
Definitely recommend the restaurant to others and will return.
Calamari appetizer and warm spinach salad were good. Scallops and shrimp were not good at all. Kitchen was backed up and I could understand that happens, but service was well below average. Sat for 15 minutes with empty water glass and took another 5 minutes to get it filled after I asked. Asked for bread. Then asked for bread again. Took additional 5-10 minutes before it arrived.
"Bad service" is not the fault of the server. "The" server. The one and ONLY server for the entire outdoor dining area (9 tables! -- One had 6 people, etc.)
Nope, this blame goes directly to management/operations!
OH, and "The" server also had the duties to make all the mixed drinks as well, at the same time (he was the only bartender, too).
As you can imagine, he was only able to come by the table every 20 minutes or so...
I spoke to some personnel at the Chart House during our (long! and slow!) dinner visit, and apparently AFTER somebody had called out sick and they were short staffed, the management still allowed the current number of reservations (120 I was told) to increase to 180.
Unacceptable.
Appetizers were amazing butel entrees took an hour to come out and were disappointing. Loved the farmers salad
Very unorganized. We got there early for 6:30 pm reservations . We had to wait for a table 20 min. We got water and silverware right away. Placed order and got salad and soup in good time. But the main course did not come for an hour! We got cold waiting outside even with heater and had to move inside. Very poor timing. Good food once we got it.
I go to this restaurant for one thing only: the amazing view of the Dana Point Harbor. The food and drinks were all fine, but if you are truly hungry and don't want to spend a lot of money, then the Chart House probably isn't the best choice.
We had a fantastic dinner at the Chart House. Had not been there in years. The views simply can't be beat. There are so many menu options! All the salads, apps and fish and steak we had were outstanding. The lava cake is HUGE and worth the splurge. Our wait staff was attentive.
We've been visiting this Chart House for many years. Sadly, this will be our last meal there. Poor service, cold food, and an inability to solve simple problems proves that they are just ready to (or should be ready to) just close their doors and sell the beautiful view to local condo developers! Sad.
We had a lovely time at Chart House. The food was delicious, the view was wonderful and our server, Matthew was great! I would definitely return! Well done!
Solid steak, etc place for years.Consistant with exceptional view.
Had a beautiful window seat. The server was great. The calamari was delicious and huge. The Prime Rib and prawns were great, but a couple of the scallops were a bit gritty. Carmel cheesecake was delicious. Overall, great meal!
Unfortunately this wasn't one of my best experiences at this Chart House. The first hostess was kind of rude, she seemed to be having a bad day. The rest of the hostesses were very nice though and our waiter was great. The food wasn't so good this time. My date had the shrimp trio and the fried coconut ones just weren't cooked right and the stuffed ones were very plain. The 3rd shrimp of the trio was pretty good so that was all she ate. My fish was decent but not out of the park. Usually I leave there very pleased with the meal but this time it was ok at best.
One of my favorite restaurants. Excellent menu and beautiful view of Dana Point Harbor and beyond.
Our service was very slow, took 20+ minutes to get our drinks, never got the bread she mentioned she was bringing to us, gave us not hot coffee. Overall not the best night for an hour drive and a $200 bill. Very disappointing.
We always enjoy the Chart House. Food here is exceptional. Service is great. Location is fantastic overseeing Dana Point Harbor.
We consistently receive absolutely excellent service from the Charthouse. The food is outstanding, the view is spectacular and the staff always treat as first-rate. Thanks so much!
Great food, view and service as always!!
