Over priced for the meal. Waiter forgot appetizer and then charged for 2 desserts when only one was ordered. Service was poor. Food was somewhat tasteless.
We have dined at Chart Houses in Portland, Maui, and now Dana Point, CA. All are known for stunning views and wonderful food. This was no exception. Starting with a Cosmo for me that was one of the best I’ve ever had, a shared appetizer of lobster spring rolls, moving on to a Caesar salad (the perfect amount of dressing - not dry but not drenched) with a good balance of tang and garlic. I had a mild white fish (sorry, I don’t recall the name) with a peanut sauce and chopped mango, Asian green beans, and sticky rice. Oh my, it was delicious.
My only complaint was that we made the reservations through Open Table, received an email confirmation from them and when we arrived the restaurant could not find the reservation. They were able to seat us and the view was spectacular.
My wife and I were celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary. The Chart Hous ranked up there with Gladstones and The White House for best restaurant in town. Best view of Dana Point Harbour. Book your teservation for sunset. Ample menu we ordered Prime Rib and Filet Minion and it was great along with lava cake.
We met friends at the Chart house for th second year in a row. We were seated immediately and wow what a view. We received prompt service and the server offered suggestions which we took and we were not disappointed. The Mac nut cobia was tom die foe. My wife had the Tapestry salmon, which was the best salmon that she has had in the last few years. We wish we lived closer because it would be a GO TO restaurant for our special occasions. Can hardly wait for our next visit.
Made reservation 3 weeks in advance and still got table with no view right next to the waiters station even though there were many tables available with a view never occupied. When I asked the host about it his comment was “oh I can get you a worst table “. Nice.
Food was average at best.
We waited 1 hour for our main course, the food came and the orzo was spoiled and the lobster cold... Horrible food, service was somehow present. Not worth it!
We had a short wait for our 7:00 PM reservation but it was worth it. Views of the harbor at sunset were excellent and service was great. Mark was friendly but not overbearing. The food was beautifully prepared and served nice and hot. We brought two bottles of wine from our collection and were pleased that there was none of the "you brought your own so you could save on wine prices" attitude that is often conveyed in this situation. We would highly recommend the crab/mango/avocado stack appetizer. It was sooo tasty! The Chart House is a great choice for us since half the group insists on a good steak and the other half loves seafood. Both preferences were well satisfied.
Difficult to get waited on
We were disapointed in the waiter.
He was disinterested and reluctant to accommodate, seemed distant.
We did mention it was a birthday and had to remind him at the end.
He did drop off the one birthday dessert at our table.
He did not ask if we wanted another glass of wine...coffee or any other dessert for the rest of
The food was ok but not great. I have been to your establishment many times, and brought my out of town friends for their birthday. This time was not so great.
There are a lot of places to go...and we may consider an alternative next time.
It was a disapointment.
Low ceiling, not friendly staff except our waiter was very nice. Had to wait about 30 min past our reservation to get a table. Felt very crammed inside. Horrible bar with unfriendly staff super low bar and low ceilings not a nice atmosphere at all. I would never go here again prefer to go to maestros or any other steak house.
Great service and great location. Our server Matt made sure everything was perfect.
My wife and I went to celebrate our move to SoCal. I looked it up by searching Steak House near me. It has a most beautiful scenic view of Dana Point. Unfortunately for us it was overcast and rainy. The food was incredible, the wine, ZD Cab, was moderately priced and the Steak and Lobster impeccable! The staff was friendly and very receptive. I will be coming back this week as we have friends coming in from Dallas. Keep up the good work!
I had a great time with my family for dinner here. It’s not cheap but worth every penny. The food and service were excellent!
Service is terrible. I expected a better experience since it’s a nicer restaurant but when we walked in the host was on the phone didn’t even acknowledge us until like 5 minutes if us standing there. Once we were acknowledged she said okay give me one second so we stood there waiting after about 2 mins of her shuffling through things and not doing anything we decided to go sit by the waiting area. We have to wait about 15 mins there to get seated. Our reservations were for 7:30 and we didn’t get seat till about 8:10 (but we did get there at 7:45). Once seated the serve came to our table in increments of 10/15 mins knowing we still hadn’t ordered. Told us if we wanted dessert to tell him about 30 mins before finishing our food so he could get it started but he didn’t make an appearance from the moment our food was brought over till we finished it. The whole customer service experience was just terrible. Not at all what you would expect of a place like this.
Never a disappointment. Discovered this place about a year ago and have been back at least 6 times. Love it.
Portions are generous, food is tasty, service is excellent, view is spectacular.
I have to say this is the worst experience ever for us and we have dined out on many occasions..The management has to learn how to be more tolerant to children especially well behaved kids. My kids were minding their own business by playing games on our phones.. then the manager just bluntly came out, without a greeting , and said that the speaker was too loud..
Keep in mind that the entire restaurant was very loud and very upbeat and energetic.. we had to speak up to hear ourselves. We then had turned off and muted the phone completely..but the manager insisted that it was still too loud..How was it possible when the phone as turned off..
I believe that the establishment was not prepared to welcome us ...being with young children.
However the food selection was exceptionally delicious but it was a bit difficult for us to swallow because of the hiccup with the manager. At the end, we did get the compliment from our waiters of how matured and well behaved our children were... that did help to console our souls.
Nice place, pretty dated building design but in top condition , excellent overlook of the Dana Point harbor area. The bunnies munching grass on the lawn outside the dining room windows are super cute.
Jordan was great server, habanero lobster raviloi was dubbed as spicy and definitely was not spicy. Coconut shrimp was good, calimari was outstanding!
The chart house has really gone downhill. The service took forever. I ordered water with lemon and had to ask four times for lemon. The "famous" lava cake came out cold and dry and the mud pie is not what it used to be. I was there three weeks ago and ordered the same exact thing and it was totally different. Consistency seems to be a big problem. I will not be going back.
Great food, great views, beautiful facility!
Very personable service, personalization on menu for special occasion, and accommodated varied arrival times [within 20 minutes] if dining guests.
We had a great experience! The fish and drinks were wonderful! They were very busy but we still had excellent service. We will definately go back!
The best food around and the service from our waiter was second to none. We have never been disappointed at the Chart House.
Really disappointing - seated in the bar area because we booked thru open table - not a priority for them - food was disappointing and average quality for a high end place - high priced drinks -not worth the money - ambiance and location of this place is world class but place is poorly managed and supervised!
Waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgeable! We got one of the prime seats because we were the first to arrive for our reservation time and the view was lovely.
We’ve been to Chart House several times over the years. Used to love it and would only go for special occasions. The food was always delicious and service amazing. Last couple of times, not so much. The waiter kept forgetting to bring stuff. Our soup, salad and meal came at the same time. The soup was cold, my friends fish was raw on the inside. The waiter completely disappeared at some point. We had to go to the hostess desk to get someone to take our payment. It was disappointing. We raved about this place to our friends, who have never been. They and us were left unimpressed.
The food was okay, waiter disappeared twice for 15 minutes each time to bring containers for left overs and/or package left over food. The Menu is over priced. Come for the View and Cocktails. The happy hour menu looks great. We will be back in the summer to sit out side and enjoy it. Also AAA discount, but we did not know about it until after we dined.
Very disorganized. Several parties were grumbling about waiting 40+ minutes past their reservation times, yet there were several tables available. That set a bad tone for the evening. The food was good, and the service was average.
Everything was amazing except waiter was inappropriate and rushing, host + bus boy kept watching us and waiting for us to leave. Rest of the experience was great though
MUCH better than our first experience. Service was good form Kristzian. No issues with the wait or seating this time. We were invited to go to the bar, which is a good technique vice waiting in a random corner and being seated late. Great tasting food. Cooked to perfection. Waiter's recommendations were spot on. Thanks!
My wife and I go every Valentine's to celebrate. We had a reservation at 6:30 . We sat at the bar to wait for a window table. A hosted showed up at the bar and told us they will be getting a table ready soon - this was around 7:50 pm, At 8:30 we still had not been seated. We paid our bar bill and left.
We made a special date to enjoy our time with some drinks dinner and a Beautiful view- and all we got was Drinks at the bar. Mel was very nice and apologized to us on the missed dinner date.
I used to love the chart house. I've been a local since the 70s but now it seems to be living off a reputation from 25 years ago. So annoying to make a reservation a month in advance requesting a oceanview table and then arrived to find no table available and worst of all, a rehearsed excuse from pretentious hostesses that could care less that you're dropping a lot of cash on an outdated menu again from the 90s. It was our anniversary and it was fine but not great. Good luck to you, glad your first come first serve seniors get all the window seats at 5pm but your short sightedness to please the younger generation will impact you very soon
Beautiful restaurant with a great view of Dana Point Harbor - food and service were outstanding!
Made reservations at6:30 pm and arrive on time. There were severe people waiting in the small waiting area, no place to sit. I was told that there was a delay in the reservation times. Everyone one waiting was called before us. I assume we all had reservations. When we were finally called, we were seated in back with no view. Two large tables in the middle area were filled with large noisy groups. Food was good and service was good. Overall experience was poor and the value was below average that evening.
We went to the Chart House to celebrate my retirement and were joined by family we only see once a year. I requested a nice table or booth and let them know it was a special occasion when I called ahead of time. We were seated at the worst table in the room that was in the entry hall. When the server, Cory, came there was an empty booth and I requested we be moved to the better table and was told no. There were several empty booths that opened up soon after being seated. I felt my requests for our special occasion fell on deaf ears. Food and service were fine, but I won't return to any Chart House in the future.
Great venue to watch coastal sunset and views. Booth seating makes for a romantic date.
We definitely will come back.
Sorry to report that the dishes came out wrong to 3 tables around us including ours. The main meal came before the appetizers and some never made it out at all. Service was slow and the food was poor as well. We went there for Valentines day to have a dinner with a nice ocean view and we were stuck in the backside looking at a wall. The prices are hefty. Don't waste your time as it is not worth it. Too bad too.
