Chart House Restaurant - Dana Point Ratings and Reviews
We arrived later than are reservation. I️ did cal to push it back. We were seated with in 5 minutes of arriving. We were comp. on corkage since we were celebrating a birthday. Nice. We also used Landry points and received $50 off our bill! All in all it was all good.
This was our 4th time eating here while traveling thru the area and it is always fantastic! This was the first time we were there for happy hour and it was amazing and a great value with a view. We had the ahi tuna appetizer and it was 4 star good.
My husband always has the filet and I have the prime rib. We have never been disappointed. Their lava cake is also fantastic!
This was our first visit. We were extremely disappointed. We will not be returning under any circumstances. We were not alone. There were only two others tables occupied and we heard the customers in the next booth demand to see the Manager. They seemed very dissatisfied as indeed we were !
We have visited Chart House with an on line reservation for party of 6, 3 times this year. My only complaint is we never get past the first room of seating. With a reservation 2 months in advance and a request for view of the harbor seating it's always seems to be taken.
Due to my job, I eat at high end resturants several times a month. Visiting Dana Point for a personal event I wanted to treat my wife to a great resturant for a date night. I chose Chart House because of the views and because the prices were high enough I thought it would be on the level of a Capital Grill or McKindricks. Well was I wrong... At the very beginning the hosts seated us without as much at looking at us. She wasn’t rude, but had the personality of an ice cube. The appetizers were mediocre at best with the bread for the bruschetta being so burnt, the burnt taste over powered the mushroom and shrimp on top. I ordered the steak medium rare which came out brown all the way through. When I told the waiter he apologized, but that was it. At any high end resturant the waiter would not have accepted this and would have insisted on taking the steak back. It wasn’t all bad, my wife got a salad and she like that. Our view was out the window through another window back into the resturant so I have no idea if this resturant has a view or not.
We celebrated our 26th anniversary and the Chart House made it a very special evening. Our first date was here 28 years ago and the Chart House is a special place for us. Thanks for making it a memorable evening! The food was amazing, the wine recommendation by our server was perfect and the dessert was off the charts!
I love the location of this restaurant. With the exception of. The fantastic coconut shrimp, the food was ok. The service was not great either. I worked in testaurants for over 10 years and have to say the overly superior attitude we encountered from the hostess stand to the dinner service was inexcusable. I ignored it on our July visit, but this time I couldn’t. Too bad. I used to go there at least once a month. I hope they address this because the property is so beautiful.
Very slow service. Busy at 6pm sat night so of course the window Table request was ignored. Waiter was nice. Hostess was less than accommodating. Ambiance was very nice. Food just average. Starters below average. Main course not noteworthy. Next time, drinks and enjoy the view. Not worth $325.00 for 4.
I don’t understand why this restaurant can’t get it together. I have lived in the area almost my whole life so I have been to the Charthouse more than 20 times. Sometimes it is great, I love their salad bar and Mac nut fish. But it is so hit and miss. First off, DO NOT GO HERE FOR LATE DINING. We had a 9:30 reservation on a Friday night and we were the only ones there-so of course-they were getting the dining room ready for the next day-moving tables around, cleaning, etc. and they were out of so much! Didn’t have the wine we ordered or the fish-ok, that is understandable but they also ran out of green beans and the sticky rice that our dish was supposed to come with-who runs out of that stuff?? When we complained to the manager, she didn’t charge us for the messed up meals but was so condescending when she talked to us that we didn’t even want to eat. It was a terrible experience. I am sure we will be back eventually but they definitely need a new manager and they should definitely not take later reservations. Service is disappointing too. He was nice enough but never filled out wine, brought our food before we were done with our salad-He was ok but not good enough for a fine dining place that is charging so much for their food.
This was our first experience at The Charthouse in Dana Point. It won’t be our last. Went first for Happy Hour before our dinner reservation. Strongly suggest the Ahi Tuna Nachos and the Kimchee Calamari. Our server Tim was great. Great place for a special occasion or for a date night. We look forward to going back.
Unfortunately, I love the Chart House, but the service for our party was lacking. The server was not very friendly or responsive and the food servers did not know where to place the meals when they came out, which I believe is the job of the main server (to let them know where the meals go). I think at a high end restaurant, to come to the table and announce the meal you are trying to deliver is not acceptable. Additionally, I am a lawrys club member and I put that on my open table reservation, but the server never asked or reminded me, so I did not get points for a dinner for 9 :(
I was disappointed how many people were packed in to a small dining area. We had an usually small table for a party of 6 which reinforced the fact the restaurant is trying to fit as many people as possible. This also created a loud noise level where you couldn't hear people at your own table talk. To pay the escalated price for a fine meal is to be expected but to feel that you are in a crowded room comparable to Souplantation was less than desirable.
In addition, with no fault to our server, to be solicited for a points program that you would participate in a much lower scale restaurant was quite embarrassing. If this program is a true benefit to the customer, perhaps a more subtle and classier approach could possibly be acceptable.
This "Chart House" is unlike any that we have been to, the Architecture is incredible and the view spectacular from almost any seat in the restaurant. Our Server Christian was very good, he seemed to appear at the perfect moment and never hovered. The Shrimp Appetizer was especially fresh and delicious, the overall meal was excellent. We left feeling that the meal and experience was definitely worth the price.
