Chart House Restaurant - Cardiff Ratings and Reviews
We had a wonderful time with our 3 granddaughters for brunch. We had a good vantage point from our table and they loved watching the waves while eating. We especially liked the Lobster and Shrimp roll. We also had the beautifully presented shrimp cocktail with the dry ice. I think the best was our waiter Jonah! We enjoyed him immensely! Job well done ! We’ll be back soon!
We were seated at a very nice window table, but the service was marginal. I made the reservation through Open Table, and specified that I was a Landry's select member, and that we had an anniversary for Alan and Melissa. I mentioned to the hostesses that we were Landrys Club members as well. We were never visited by a manager, and no one seemed aware of the Anniversary. Other tables got special menus with the names printed on them. At the end, Craig did ask if we were celebrating anything, and we told him it was an anniversary. We had to ask to have our water glasses refilled, we poured our own wine after the first pour, and there were issues with the entrees. Four entrees were brought out, and it was about 5 minutes before the fifth was brought out. It was a filet that was ordered medium, but turned out to be well-done. Unfortunately, I found out about it later, as my date was not comfortable with sending food back. My niece ordered pasta without shrimp or mushrooms, and it came loaded with mushrooms. She ordered a side of mashed potatoes that we had to ask for twice before they finally arrived. The fish entrees were good, however. This is the second time I've dined at the Chart house recently, and both times it has seemed that the restaurant is understaffed and the service was disappointing.
Bummer I have to write this, but the last two times I’ve dined here the service was poor. Our server didn’t even once poor our wine....
Other than that, it’s still one of my go to places, but the service should be better when you’re spending $40 plus for a plate of food.
Great view, good food, decent service. I’ve been to multiple Chart House restaurants. Cardiff probably has the best view but not the best vibe. The Matre d’ was less than happy and the server for my table was blah...they weren’t rude but ... it’s a CHART HOUSE...a big part of the draw is the exceptional service...they could do better.
Beautiful sunset that night.
Absolutely stunning views of the ocean. Food was very good, creative, and plentiful. The only thing that fell a little short was the creme brûlée trio for dessert. The idea was good but the consistency of each flavored brûlée was too thin. Reasonable valet parking - $5.00.
Service started out great, but due to a number of large parties, our waitress got lost for quite a while before taking our order. Also took longer than expected when she closed out our tab at the same time as one of the large parties that wanted separate tabs for the four or five separate parties in the group. Never brought the wine I ordered. The sea bass was excellent. The shrimp and pasta was tasty, but a bit skimpy on the shrimp - only four average size shrimp. I’d go back and hope for better service.
Made reservation for 615p, called to advised we were running 5-10 mins late due to event; arrived at 625p the restaurant was busy but they sat us down immediately. When i made reservation i requested window seating w ocean view and thats exactly what we received. Our waitress was attentive and timely, food was perfect, friends ordered steak and it was cooked as requested. Wine selection was good with a good selection of beer as well. Great experience, love this restaurant.
Really good meal with a fantastic view. The noise level was energetic but not loud so that I could actually enjoy talking with my out of town guest. The crab cake appetizer is very good. Nice size cocktail for the money. Each of us had mahi mahi with different toppings and both were nicely prepared. Skipped dessert but not because we didn't want the lava cake. Nice change from Pacific Coast Grill nest door where we usually take our out of town company.
This was a wonderful experience. I was celebrating my 50th birthday, and the waitstaff was incredibly friendly. They brought me a personalized menu that I got to take home as well as a hand-written birthday card. When the menu item my daughter ordered was unavailable, the waiter brought us a complimentary dessert of her choosing (on top of the complimentary mud pie for my birthday). The ambience was wonderful, and we got a window seat overlooking the Pacific Ocean, only steps from the floor to ceiling windows. This was a wonderful venue. I highly recommend.
Was pleasantly surprised by the Chart House, everyone really enjoyed the appetizers and their food. The serivce should have been more attentive, but ambience and food made up for the gaps in service. Overall, made me want to go back and even recommend to fanily.
This restaurant is terrible. My wife’s salmon was almost raw and we had to send it back. The manager explained to us that Salmon is normally pink and therefore it was cooked properly which it was not. The ice cream given as a birthday treat was melted and looked like soup. I had to show the manager what home-made ice cream looks like because he did not know. The server and the manager were not helpful and we will definitely not return. This has been our go to restaurant for all occasions for many years. It was the first time In my life that I have not left a tip for service. Don’t go there. If you do, you were regret it.
The service was exceptional and the food is always good. We come here all the time for special occasions and are never disappointed. We always order the seafood: coconut shrimp, crispy calamari and salmon. They are always fresh and perfectly cooked. The view of the ocean is just an added bonus. I highly recommend the Chart House at Cardiff by the Sea.
We have been to a few Chart House restaurants, and we knew the food is always good. We were not disappointed here. Besides the great food, the view of the water was spectacular.
Our waitress was terrific, she took us outside and took a picture of us near the water.
We had an excellent meal and an enjoyable evening.
Reviews have influenced me on many occasions, both pro and con, and customers of the Chart House were of varied and definite opinions. At some point, one has to just jump into the "Starters" and hope for the best. This turned out to be for the best.
In an area not lacking for restaurants of all varieties, cuisines, et al, and having recently moved to the area, I was initially looking for a restaurant: on the water/with reliably well-prepared, well-served, non-effusive and friendly wait staff.
Passing the Chart House many times en route to various music events, and seeing the delightful lights on the waves, my friend mentioned several times that she had not dined there for several years, and always expressed interest. As mentioned, remaining objective when reading about less-than stellar experiences, and this being a surprise Birthday dinner, charging forth was not on my radar.
Whether a change in management, attitude, suppliers, climate ... absolutely none of the 'con' aspects were present, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thursday evening, immediate seating, sweet/friendly/experienced/helpful wait staff, wonderful cocktails, salad, entrees, dessert ... all better than good.
What a sunset, wonderful weather, views, views, views, and a server who did not laugh when I asked, "How do you manage to maintain a no-breeze, no-damp, superb surf sound affects, in such perfect balance ... and sitting right next to this huge picture window!?" (It was a completely open window, and both the Birthday Girl, I, and everyone at nearby tables gasped when she leaned completely out of the window, to prove there was no glass ... even a floor show!
Honest review. Recommend. Enjoy. Turned out for the best!
Was my husband's birthday and I wanted to make it special so we got there very early (5:00 pm) and was able to get a table right in front of the window and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. For a Sunday evening, the place was very busy and our waitress and waiter in training were fine but it took almost an hour for our steaks to come out. Luckily we weren't in too much of a hurry but it did go beyond the typical wait time for a busy night. Hubby loved his sea bass and I had a 7 oz steak and french fries. They did surprise us with a really nice piece of Mudd Pie for hubby's birthday. All in all, a great birthday dinner!
Once again, the service was just ok. I have found the last two times dining here in two months, the service has deteriorated. For a Sunday afternoon with not many filled tables it took well over 30 min to receive a bottle of wine order from the wine list. Some excuse that the Mgr forgot to bring it up from downstairs. The appetizers were delivered well before our wine. Order the filet mignon medium and was delivered just shy of rare. Had an issue with a charge from the bar on our dining check which was supposed to have been removed and wasn't so that was a fiasco having to have it removed and credited . I have always like ChartHouse restaurants but this one in particular makes it difficult to return.
The food and service were great. The hostess was not helpful in helping us secure a seat near the window even though we arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation. Instead, she sat us at a table in a draft because a door was open. We asked to move. Then she sat us over an AC vent in the floor that was strong enough to blow the tablecloth up. We asked to move. Finallly, we got a table that was comfortable but not near the window. Her attitude put a damper on our evening.
Took my girlfriend there for a much needed date night. Food was amazing, drinks were ok ( they use too much lime juice in a Cadillac margarita ) server was slightly above average but we have had excellent service there for restaurant week in the past. Went there for the view but will probably try somewhere else next time
This was the worst meal we had in California, The crab legs were like rubber and then they didn't cut them or brake them so we could eat them, The potato was yellow inside and looked like it was cooked the day before, They gave us things to crack the shell but it was so like rubber it wouldn't crack, The food was brought out COLD. We wont be back. We will let Landry`s Know. The service was terrible, When we complained all he said was sorry.
Everything was wonderful! But, I am a gluten free diner, and it seemed odd that they only have a GF menu for dinner, not one for lunch. It was pretty obvious that my server didn't know what was GF, nor the manager. So, I made decision based on what was on the menu. I think this would be easily remedied by educating staff and having a GF menu for lunch.
