Chart House Restaurant - Cardiff
Need to book at 8:15 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
The best reason to go here is for the view. Having said that, I made a request for a table by the window, and got one further back. Which is OK, but it would have been great if someone had at least acknowledged my request. The food was good, the service not as good. No one once checked on us to see how our food was. My wine came in a dirty glass. The server was more like a salesperson than a server. Seriously. He asked if we wanted to order dessert before the meal. Huh? Would you like (fill in the blank). Soup? Salad? Another appetizer? A side order of vegetables? More drinks? No, actually I don't. And I probably won't be back.
We have been going to this restaurant since the 70’s, I can honestly say for all the years we’ve been going there, this was the worst experience we have EVER had there. We went early to have a drink in the bar, we did ck in at the front desk with a young woman, I explained to her we were early to have a drink in the bar, (we had a hour till our reservation time) I showed her our Landry card and asked if we could be accommodated at a window table. She said we’ll see what’s available at our time. We hadn’t been sitting in the bar for more than 15 minutes when she came and got us to go to our table, our appetizer had not arrived so I told my husband to go to the table and I would wait for the appetizer. When my husband got to the table area there was a window table available but my husband was told he could not have it, actually she said “that’s not going to happen” so he took the table she told him to. The window table sat empty till we ordered dessert. The restaurant at this time was not full. He texted me to come to the table without the appetizer, our waitress was very sweet and retrieved it. The way my husband was treated by the hostess was unacceptable. S Cal has lots of beachfront restaurants so I’m afraid we will be going to try a few of them from now on.
Everything was very good except the hostess seemed to forget that we were waiting in the bar area. We arrived 45 minutes early before our reservation and told her we'd wait in the lounge. After we saw 4 open tables and it was our reservation time, we went up to her and reminded her we were waiting. We then waited about 5 minutes before being seated. Otherwise, food, table, view and waitress were very good!
Excellent service from the moment you drop your car off at the valet until you pick your car up .
Great location and have been coming here since you had a salad bar, and I am not as happy. We came for valentines lunch and just not that great. We are laundry’s members and all that but lately our visits here are lacking....bummer.
Very enjoyable lunch — window table on a beautiful day; restaurant not at all packed so noise wasn’t an issue; food and service were great.
Mango stack and crab cake starters both very good. Cedar plank salmon cooked perfectly (raw center). Server Samantha was excellent.
Will definitely return.
We had the Valentines Day special. Food was delicious but except for the soup our entree arrived at our table cold. Had to send it back to be reheated.
Service was slow and not timely. Our bottle of wine didn’t get to our table until we were finishing our soup. Too bad . It would have been a great pairing.
Hard to beat the Chart House @ Cardiff by the Sea. Great food. Great service. Fantastic views. An all around’10’.
We reserved our table and online it says you can not reserve a window seat and to ask upon arrival. We asked for an open window seat and was told they had reserved it for another guest that had a reservation that was arriving in a few minutes. Called another restaurant next to them but they were booked, now I know why they were booked and chart house wasn't. Not real happy
Everything was wonderful! Nothing better than eating coconut shrimp while looking at the ocean!
Went for an early Valentine dinner and had a great evening. Our server was excellent and the surf & turf outstanding. Ambiance on the beach is always great.
We have been to this Chart House restaurant several times but this time the food was disappointing. The ambiance is wonderful overlooking the Pacific but my Mahi Mahi dish was overcooked and dry. I have had that same dish before that was cooked to perfection with tasty and moist white fish but this time the fish was dry and almost tasteless. Prices were also much higher than I remember. Will think twice about returning to what was a lovely spot for dinner along the ocean in Cardiff, CA.
Pros: free valet, server was excellent, great ocean views (although the restaurant seating isn’t tiered like some of the competition), very good food (ahi, halibut, filet).
Cons: the manager and hostess ... we arrive about 15 minutes early for our 5:15 reservation and were directed to wait in the lobby. Others arrived and were told the same. Although 1/2 the tables were empty, the manager explained they only had four servers and had quite a few “unexpected walk-ins”. The manager and hostess didn’t hide their heated discussion about whatever plan they had for seating everyone. We were seated just after our reservation time. The managers attitude towards the hostess and guests was surprising. Lucky for him, the rest of the evening made returning a likely possibility.
Perfect everything. Got to sit by the window and watch doggies play in the sand. Gorgeous sunset. Perfect evening with my husband for a pre-Valentines day dinner. Can’t wait to go back for another amazing dining experience.
We've been to this Chart House three times in the past few months and continue to have special meetings with friends and our own celebrations there. We enjoy the menu and our servers have been efficient, personable, and engaging on each visit, be it lunch or dinner. Of course, we add a walk on the beach to top it off. The view is spectacular and ever-changing.
Great time and wonderful sunset. Just what we were looking for.
Food and service did not justify the price. Manager did deduct my entree price which was the right thing to do. My food was bad, my wife’s was fine. Service was unforgivable.
Location is awesome for view of water. Service was excellent and food delicious as usual. Prime rib was perfect!
It was fine but service wasn’t good. The waiter brought my entree without clearing our soups. Then he didn’t bring my husband’s entree for several minutes. We had to ask for more drinks. After our cocktails we each got a glass of wine. He didn’t clear the cocktail glasses. Just poor training for the waiter. Food was good but the view is great. Management needs to work with wait staff more.
Food was excellent. Couldn't have asked for more. Service was OK to poor. For a 730 reservation we arrived right on time and were asked to wait, it took around 15 minutes, I get it, want us to start with a drink.
We got sat and it took another 15 minutes before our waiter took our drink order, another 10 minutes after that before we got water (we had to flag someone else down). And they didn't clear off the extra place settings at the table.
Other than that our waiter was actually quite friendly. The food as I mentioned was the reason you go there. The prices are on the high side but for the being on the water and eating amazing seafood that's to be expected.
Our Uber driver pulled into the parking lot and was going to let us out near the entrance. But the valet attendant started yelling at him to move. Wouldn't let us exit near the front. Walked in and was blocked from the maitre d' desk by a loud group of customers. Squeezed our way to the hostess. Encouraged to wait in the bar until our table was ready. Had to wait for the bar table to be cleaned. Good martinis. Was told " They'll get you when the table is ready." ( 'They?' 'Get?')
Table was set for a 4-top. Hostess had to remove the 2 extra settings. Obviously the table wasn't quite 'ready.' Our server seemed rushed. I asked about a House Specialty- King salmon. Where does a restaurant source fresh King salmon in February? "Oh, it's farm-raised." Also frozen, thawed, overcooked and swimming in butter.
White wine brought to the table in a chiller. Not at the proper temperature, required an ice bath and 10 minutes. Extra steps for the server.
Ah, coffee. Delivered with this message: "We're brewing a fresh pot and I'll bring you a new cup when it's ready."
Insult to injury. The guest check had a statement suggesting a 15 - 20 % gratuity. Come on! 10% would have been overtipping for such an underwhelming dining experience. Expected much more from a Fertitta restaurant. Can't eat the view.
Great food and beach location but our table wasn’t ready until about 25 minutes after our reservation time. Plus the booth they put us in was extremely uncomfortable. Very tight. And we’re fairly thin people. I’m sure many Americans could not fit where they sat us. Vincent was a good waiter. Prime rib was excellent.
It was for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We waited for our table for about 30 minutes after having a reservation set for over a month and a half. Then when we got sat we waited about 10 minutes before someone waited on us.
The food was excellent, very tasty. The service was very friendly.
It was a beautiful view, great service from Lacey and delicious food. The valet was very nice too! I’ll definitely be returning. Thank you!
I ordered my hamburger well done, it wasn’t. In order to get ice tea you have to wait for them to brew each glass. I kept having to wave down the waitress for a refill on my drink. My wife ordered a drink and it cost $14.
We live the place cause it’s rig on the ocean. I think i might be looking for another place to eat at the ocean front. I would recommend just on the fact thy it’s ocean front, otherwise not really
Great view, good food, lunch prices are very reasonable.
Loved the atmosphere, service, and food; would absolutely return for another meal!
My husband and I scored a window table for restaurant week. The view was beautiful and the food was delicious
We had a wonderful 56th anniversary dinner - given a great table by the window, served by Eric really well, and enjoyed fabulous surf&turf meal. Loved our evening.
Everything was good. Salmon was really nicely done. Service was just a bit rushed but not a problem. Only thing I can even comment on for improvement at least for me is there was too much garlic on the bruschetta Appetizer for my taste but a wonderful evening and experience.
Good food, good ambience.
The redesigned restaurant is amazing and the food is fabulous as usual.
We haven't eaten at the Chart House in a long time and was pleasantly surprised by the changes to both the restaurant and the menu. We will return in the future.
Had a great time. They sat us next to the window as requested and had a beautiful view of the ocean. Hard to find a bad seat here. The waiter was extremely attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and valet parking included. Only (Very slight) issue was the lights would dim, then turn bright, then dim...etc. It was just before sunset so maybe they were self adjusting? A little distracting but awesome overall experience. Will do back for sure!
Great place for a late afternoon lunch. Or as I call it linner. lunch and dinner combined.
The server didn’t greet us for at least 10 minutes after arriving. I understood that they were busy, but she should’ve at least come by and said I’ll be right with you.
I told her that I understood that she was busy so it was understood that it was understood. She said she really had no control as it was the kitchen.
I also observed another waitress scolding the hostesses to get their act together.
The thing that bothers me the most was I asked the waitress to credit me the points from my Landry’s account which she said she would later on with the manager as I left my phone number on the ticket. I looked the next day and there was no credit at all. I called the manager the next day and he said he couldn’t do anything about it then I would have to call the Landry’s main office. I come here a lot and it’s usually pretty good but this was a zero for me on this night
I took my 85 year old mom for dinner at 4:30 hoping to have a table by the window before she returned to the Midwest. We asked the hostess for a front table but she sat us on the side facing the parking lot as they “needed to spread people out” even though there were tables available. The sunset was blocked by a wall! Our waiter was ok but really didn’t seem interested in us and felt he just wanted us to order the more expensive items. Have had much better service at other expensive restaurants. Feels like they feel service doesn’t have to be excellent as people will come for the view no matter. We sat several times waiting for the next step...finished plates in front of us for quite a while. Food was ok. Would not go back!
