The service was amazing. Our waitress and hostess really saved the experience. On the other hand, the food was bland and just not good at all. The blackened salmon was highly recommended but there was no seasoning. I give the food one star out of politeness and the service 5.
Excellent service and the food was good. Definitely will be coming back
I felt like I have had better meals at the Chart House. My Caesar salad was not as fresh and the Salmon was prepared well but I have had better. Overall taste was just ok.
Great food, fabulous service and wonderful view of the Potomac River. Definitely recommend!!
Great service; staff very helpful. Lovely view. The food was good.
Waiter was a little slow in responding to our needs.
Two birthdays celebrated. Chart House staff even printed Happy Birthday message on the day’s menu. What a surprise! Our server, Callie, was a jewel!
Our server, Kunda, was excellent!
We went to celebrate a 60th birthday and I had called a few days ahead to tell them this and they told me they would print menus with the celebrants name. When they seated us they gave us someone else's menus....and then just gave us plain menus. Secondly, I mentioned about doing something at dessert for the person celebrating and nothing was done. For something that we thought would be a little extra fun for the birthday person...it didn't happen. Very disappointing....
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, because of COVID, it has been a long time since our last visit. Our visit this weekend reminded us of how much we really enjoy the food and service at the Chart House. We requested and were seated at a table by a window overlooking the Potomac. Mrs. and I, over cocktails, both shared a jumbo shrimp cocktail – such a wonderful difference in the quality and excellent taste. Then both had salads with grilled shrimp – again, delicious. Our server was very attentive. An excellent dining experience. We are so happy to return to dining out at the Chart House.
I used to visit Chart House before the pandemic. Even back then it was just OK…nothing special…but unfortunately it has now gone downhill big time. This lunch menu now consists of a very small number of choices of simple, mediocre, and grossly overpriced bar food, and there is no way to order anything else if you go for lunch. I should have checked the menu before booking my reservation because I definitely would not have come if I had done so. They charge $17 for a small plate of fried shrimp served very poorly over scattered French fries with 3 dipping sauces that taste like pure molasses…the sauces are far to sweet to eat and they don’t even go with fried shrimp. This type of small dish is worth less than half that price…$6 or $7 max as an appetizer at a dive bar. The service was OK, nothing to write home about…but it was abnormally slow for the restaurant being only half full. Unfortunately I think it general the restaurant industry is struggling to stay relevant in a post COVID world where most people prefer to order more reasonably priced takeout from more well respected national chains without having to pay 15% gratuity for average or below average service. Almost all restaurants took a huge financial hit during the pandemic, and now they are trying to recover by jacking up their prices while cutting corners on quality. This is the strategy Chart House is clearly taking, and it’s not going to work in the long term because people don’t like being ripped off by restaurants. Our bill ended up at almost $140 for a party of 5 including gratuity for a very underwhelming meal, and we’ve had far better meals with better service for less than $60 at diners. I will definitely not return to Chart House anytime soon. Their heyday is long behind them in Old Town Alexandria, and it’s time for them to close down and hand over the reins to a higher quality more upscale restaurant that actually deserves to operate in such a prime waterfront location.
Fish was severely overcook to the point of being the same consistency as saw dust.
Missed seeing crab cakes on the menu!
Rodney was an excellent waiter he took care of myself and my guest.
Fantastic experience, service was impeccable and a lovely touch of an anniversary card! Food was superb as always and our server had great wine and drink recommendations.
My daughter’s birthday.
Seated at a window with a view of the Potomac without asking! Requested that our served not rush us but not forget us which she handled quite well. Food was fabulous, as always. Chart House has survived the pandemic with little to no visible fallout. It was great to be back.
Food was delicious!
Disappointed by the food and service here. Steak was overdone! We told our server we couldn’t eat potatoes, she recommended vegetables instead and when the bill came they charged us each $5.00 for subbing the vegetables for the potatoes. They both were the same price on the side dish menu, so should not have been charged extra. Also, our coconut shrimp appetizer had 4 small shrimp in a huge amount of crisp rice noodles, it was a joke! My Caesar salad had no flavor, I had to flag down another tables server for more dressing. We have always loved Chart House and we’re very disappointed 🙁
We hadn't been to Chart House in some time, but it is still a great place to have dinner. The food was very good and service was great. We would come back.
Anniversary dinner - everything was great:
Service - excellent!
Appetizer, drinks, entree, dessert!
Blackened Halibut was amazing!
It was fantastic, we were seated with an exceptional view, our waitress was great and the food was perfect! Would strongly recommend for brunch, all of the foods were delicious
Went there to kick off my birthday celebration. Food did not disappoint as usual. Entrees ordered NY strip, salmon and crab and asparagus omelette. Downside: A little more crab in the omelette and a fruit garnish with our mimosas would have been nice. Planned to have the lava cake yet was told that it would be a 30-minute wait. Waitress stated she didn’t think to mention it prior to taking our brunch order. 🤨
We were forgotten by our waitress for a while, which was aggravating. However, the food was excellent. We will be back, definitely.
It was delicious and a great environment.
Service was so so and seemed to be off.
We used to love CH, but this place has seriously gone downhill. The restaurant itself is dingy and dated. The hostesses were a hot mess. We checked in 3 times and when they showed us to our table realized they didn’t have a table for 5 set up so we stood there while they set it up. The restaurant wasn’t even full so I’m not sure what the deal was and our food took a long time to arrive. The food itself was not great. I had a ceasar salad with shrimp and the shrimp were really fishy tasting. My nephew ordered a hamburger but it came with cheese and they had to remake it. Such a prime location wasted with a poorly run restaurant with food that is seriously lacking.
Our visit to ChartHouse Alexandria was amazing! The drinks and food was impeccable! Our server was great and the views were awesome! We will be back!
Waitress were awesome !!
Great experience food was really good. Our server was a sweetheart.
We sat outside and enjoyed it very much. Hi
Food was ok. We’ve had better tasting food in the past. Service was good though! Always surprised about how small the portions are for the price, too.
AVOID if a Couple. Restaurant caters to groups of 4 or more. Couples tables are given away and only given window view seats after 7:30pm. Unbelievably bad experience. My wife and I dine out nearly 100 days a year. First, the hostess told us to wait at the bar and she would get us a window seat table. Then, we waited there 35 minutes and she never came to get us, but she walked by me twice and got two other groups. Then they gave away our table. Then the other hostess was nasty at the stand and said sometimes they don't come get people even if they tell them they will. Then, they promised us a window seat again. We waited 15 minutes longer (25 past our reservation time). To only be sat at a table further from the windows. A broken table that the flap kept falling down on my wife's legs. Then our cocktail order took 22 minutes to be brought to the table.
Rice bin for my Ahi Tuna was on a table outside the kitchen and not covered! People were walking by it coughing and breathing on it! Lastly, while at the bar, the bartender told us to sit at a designated "bar table". But then the waitress was mean and yelled at us and started arguing with bartender for giving us a happy hour table while we waited for our fine-dining table reservation.
Glad we got there early, it was packed and very noisy as the evening progressed. Very good service from Kunda.
Service was a bit slow but that is to be expected since we are still technically in a pandemic but we had no issues as we were there to spend time with loved ones and enjoy a nice meal. Our reservations were at 5:45 and we left at 8:30 so plan accordingly and try to be understanding towards these establishments who are still understaffed and suffering from post pandemic situations.
Water front views of the potomac in historic old town alexandria.
The food tasted great. Perfect salmon and coconut shrimp! Beautiful view as well. They treated my mom very special on her birthday! The server was really nice as well.
good food, view, and ambıance. Recommended for any occasion.
We were there for our daughters' 21st birthday and we had a wonderful dinner and experience. The table contained a birthday card that was signed by the staff which was a nice touch. The menus wished the girls a happy birthday and they each kept a copy for the remembrance. We have a very nice view of the Potomac. The food was excellent and our waiter did a wonderful job. We could not have asked for a better evening.
My friend and I found it perfect for our "Ladies' Lunch"! We did not feel rushed since it was not overcrowded yet there were plenty of customers. The food is excellent and the views are terrific! I missed the salad bar which we were used to for many years that was killed by the pandemic. Maybe it will come back in some form for the evening, but it is understandable and feels safer. We enjoyed our lunch very much!
