Chart House Restaurant - Alexandria

Our server seemed very inexperienced: our wine order took a very long time coming and a salad starter came out with the meals- we sent it back. Everything else was great: the food was delicious, the views, and general ambiance.
The restaurant seated us at the window with a lovely view of the water and that’s where the nice experience ends. The waitress did not know how to open a bottle of wine and subsequently got metal slivers from the foil in my wine glass. Bread for the table came out as food was coming out. Generally did not have to wait that long but we were also there very early in the evening. The mahi was undercooked and the baja extra on top was sloppy and did not bring about any new flavors. Rice was served in the shape of a random pyramid. With “seasonal vegetables” being carrots and broccoli undercooked and unseasoned on the side. Please wipe down your window sills in the future, I should not be looking at bugs who failed to escape or yesterday’s pepper. The silver water jugs had rust on the bottom which does not give me confidence in the cleanliness of the jugs. Entirely disappointing considered the price. Won’t be eating here again
Disaster. Waited over an hour for our lunch on what seemed like a relatively quiet day. Dining room was half empty yet the kitchen still couldn’t manage. Restaurant is dated in every sense and a shame given its location.
My experience at Chart House was breathing taking. The atmosphere was relaxing, soothing, and serene. The interaction with the staff was comforting and joyful.
We attended The Chart House in Alexandria, Virginia to celebrate my mother, Rebecca’s, birthday dinner. We made reservations easily via the Open Table App. Although our server was new, she was very nice, professional, prompt, and courteous. She was thoughtful and definitely went over and above to make our experience a positive one. Unfortunately, there were issues with the food quality and it’s preparation. The 2 prime ribs that we ordered were the largest size but 1 came with at least 75% inedible fat. Much more than should have ever been on that cut for that price. It was disappointing and not a good value, not nutritious, and not appealing. The mashed potatoes were actually so stiff and hard, possibly they used the wrong type of potatoes like white potatoes with a very high starch content resulting in stiff, unappetizing mashed potatoes. Multiple items from the Salad Bar appeared to have been left out too long and had an altered and unnatural taste to many of these items. The desserts were hit or miss. The flight of creme brulee was so-so with the vanilla was the best. The Key Lime Pie was very well executed but could have been much better with more key line juice, and the hot chocolate lava cake was very good but a bit too busy and ultimately somehow overdone. I have dined at multiple chart houses over the years and this was a a C+ dining experience and our server elevated the status of the dinner.
Other than the location it is a very mediocre place to eat - it comes closer to a fast food than a restaurant
The food was prepared superbly. The service was a little lacking.
Food was not up to Chart House par. One meal was cold, another over cooked. Perhaps the staff was overwhelmed with Easter crowd
the service was outstanding and the food scrumptious!
Excellent food and service. The view of the Potomac was very special.
Completely over priced for the quality of the food and the experience as a whole. I have paid an equal amount at other restaurants and had much better food and ambiance. Our server was kind and very helpful, however she was battling insufficient bar and cook services.
The service was fantastic! The food was delicious but on the pricey side. My husband’s oysters were very fresh. My children had king crab legs and said they were delicious! I had the street Caesar salad and it was a amazing!! The view was amazing. We made reservations and were seated right away. Staff was very attentive. My family enjoyed our dinner.
Had a great Birthday experience. Service was outstanding, very friendly waiter. Could've had a little more food on my plate, but the food was satisfying. Will definitely come back and would recommend others to come here too.
Plain and simple.....JUST DEVINE taste of foods. I’ve never had a bad meal.
My husband and I went to the CH on Easter in the early afternoon. The service and the food were not as good as usual. There were long lags of time between ordering, getting our appetizer, the entrees, then dessert. The stuffed shrimp was dry and not fresh tasting. The waiter apologized several times but no offer to make things right was made. We were very disappointed in one of our favorite Old Town dining spots.
I booked a reservation here for what was supposed to be Easter brunch. Typically brunch is served until 2pm on Sunday, and when I called to confirm the reservation I told the employee that we were coming for brunch. When we arrived and were seated we were given the dinner menu, and asked for the brunch menu. At that time we were informed that brunch was only served until noon on that specific day. Honestly this makes no sense. A holiday should have extended brunch if anything. It was also frustrating because we had said in a phone call earlier in the week we were coming for brunch at 1pm, and we were not told only the dinner menu would be served at that time. There was also no mention of the change on Open Table like most other restaurants did for Easter. We noticed several other tables who were upset about the same situation. Ultimately we ended up leaving without ordering, and went to another restaurant.
Easter and Birthday
Easter Lunch with our Va Family!! I believe our serverwas Kinnis.... and she was awesome!!! Our table of 9 was on the second level, spacious, beautiful view of the Potomac and boat traffic, Kinnis was on top of her game....attentive,but not hovering, pleasant and had a genuine smile when with us!!! She is a real asset to the Chart House!! Hope we can visit this treat of a dining experience again soon!
Great service, delicious food, overall wonderful experience for our table of 8
Wonderful evening out with family. Our drinks were ready for us upon arrival. The food delicious. The service top notch!
Food was outstanding and the service was superb! However, the table provided for 6 was truly not suitabe and we spent the evening reaching over each other & plates while kicking each other under the table because of the table simply being too small.
As always, a delight. I had the Black and Blue Swordfish (grilled fish with Cajun spices and topped with blue cheese). It was amazing. The creme brulee was a wonderful end to the meal. My husband enjoyed his as well. Top marks all around.
I love Chart House because the food is fresh and absolutely delicious. The salad bar had a good variety, as well. I had the ginger soy shrimp and scallops, which was fantastic along with the key lime pie <3 I fell in love at first bite <3
The food was fantastic. Helen took care of us with exception service and recommendations.
Printed personalized menus and a birthday card from staff
Everything was perfect. The food, the gorgeous view, the warm service. Our server was so kind to our little ones. Really great
Beyond horrible service and management. We were literally the first customers to be seated and by the time our food came, the other people had paid and left. Our server and the manager both ignored us, had no customer service skills, no social awareness and no common sense.
It was my friend’s birthday and they wrote happy birthday with her name on it on the menus and gave us an amazing complimentary dessert. It was great!
This is my family’s second year celebrating all of our birthdays at Chart House. The service was excellent as well as the food. Definitely no complaints!
Food was ok. Dining area was fine. Service not so good. They took all of my silverware when I went to the salad bar.
Late evening reservation through Open Table warmly received, even though we only wanted dessert and coffee. Our host and server were very welcoming and accommodating. Ended up having prosecco to start before ordering dessert. Our server made a fresh pot of coffee, which was excellent. We appreciated having a nice table with a water view, and although our order was simple, we received a high level of attention and service which was very much appreciated.
Wonderful, as always. Unfortunately, we were seated next to a large table of very loud, often profane, birthday celebrators. But they finally left us in peace for our dessert. We’ll be back!
Had a great time. Our server was new but informed
The reservation process worked great. The table service (Mark) was excellent -- friendly and responsive -- but the salad bar had not been replenished in a timely manner.
Not sure what it was but my girlfriend and I both got sick from what we ate. I still gave a good review because the experience was nice and the food actually tasted great going down. Only thing I would change is the lighting. If we have to pull out our phone flashlights to see the menu it is probably too dark.
The food was just ok. My manager sent back her food an did not eat. The crab soup was no good. I wasn’t wowed at all.
We entertained 6 out-of-town guests, and they enjoyed the dinner experience very much. We had made a reservation requesting window seating and were so appreciative that The Chart House accommodated our request. The food, service, and ambiance was outstanding.
our favorite when in Washington. Wait staff outstanding. Selection perfect.
Seafood beautifully prepared and presented. Perfect portion size. Great view of river.
It’s always noisy in there—hard to have conversations—that’s the only drawback.
Very accommodating. We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation but they graciously seated us anyway. I had the crab legs and my husband had the swordfish, both of which were excellent. Our drinks were prepared to perfection and our waitress was very attentive without being overbearing. A great experience all around!
