Char's Tracy Mansion Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I recently visited Char's for our anniversary. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was superb and the staff was very friendly. We had the opportunity to have a perfect evening to enjoy sitting outside on the patio, which overlooks the river - the views were very peaceful and calming.
OMG were we surprised and so vey pleased. Chars was recommended by the B&B owned (Mike and Sally Of Front Street "Manor on The Front") and it was everything they claimed and more. Entrees were succulent and delicious...Salads were fresh and crisp...Entrees were to die for :-)
Then came coffee and dessert....whew!!! We were quite stuffed, but the two-hour dinner was completely worth it!
Can't wait to go back!!!
Char's Tracy Mansion was a very nice spot to eat at. They got us seated right away, and got our drinks. The server we had could have been better. He seemed a little scatterbrained or possibly new. He did know everything and had written down everything needed. The food was excellent, and came out at a good time, not to long or to short. Desert was also really good, we each had something different so we could taste. Beer menu was very long and wine menu was huge! Mixed drinks were very alcohol heavy. Live music outside was loud inside which was nice. Over all it was excellent, a little pricey for what you get, but still worth it.
This restaurant did not meet our expectations. The prices were high, which we wouldn't have minded paying however, the service was deplorable. The kitchen ran out of the special we ordered, which we didn't find out until nearly 45 minutes of waiting, then were told. Please?? Very disappointing. Will not be returning.
I wish I could give a higher than 5 star review for the venue and the staff. The location sitting outside overlooking the Susquehanna was revitalizing, and the kindness and service of the staff made us feel welcomed and valued. The drinks were wonderful as well! We were not as impressed with the food. Definitely would return and try other menu items.
Mother's Day Luncheon was special. The waiter was friendly but professional, the view of the river delightful, the food excellent -- the entire experience made a great Mother's Day. The strawberry pie was superb. We will return, hopefully for their happy hour, which sounds perfect for a summer evening.
We went there for a special occasion and were not disappointed. The atmosphere and décor are exceptional as is the view. The food was spectacular, definitely gourmet! Everyone had different entrees and no one was disappointed. They have a full bar and creative cocktails. Our server was upbeat, fun and definitely knew the menu and was helpful in choosing our dinners. We will return!
We were celebrating a birthday and were very pleased that we were seated at exactly the table that we requested. The food, service, and ambiance were excellent. They served everything we ordered at exactly the right time. The presentation as well as the taste was creative. A nice touch was that Char herself came over to the table to welcome us back.
My husband and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner. This was the 1st time we've been to the Char Tracy Mansion. Food was outstanding, excellent service, and scenic view. Wine selection excellent. We had the special appetizer ( mushroom puff pastry), flat iron steak, and veal. Everything done perfectly. Best meal we've had in months.
As before at Char's, the setting is gorgeous (ate on the porch on a gorgeous night). But value for the money - $33 for my special of tomato and broccoli risotto with chicken schnitzel? No way that dish cost more than $5 to make - my fault for not asking cost. My mom's seafood pasta with shrimp, scallops, and mussels was just $4 more, a much better value. Also, I understand that Char needs to cater to her regulars, but she didn't even give my mom and I a look after she seated us, which turns me off. Will not return for a while, better places in Harrisburg and surrounding areas.
Char's always seems to raise the bar. From the gracious host, to the beautiful view, to the amazing wait staff. And the food.... fabulous. We started the evening sharing an Asian style chicken soup with rice and corn and a spinach salad with crispy bacon, warm rice and mandarin oranges. We both decided on the Halibut special with a delicious Thai Chili Sauce over risotto. We finished off the meal with a heavenly chocolate gelato. It was certainly one of the best meals I have had in a while.
The experience was lovely. Booked through Open Table. No wait upon arrival. Was seated at a very nice table. Our waiter Loren was with us immediately. He suggested a few cocktails and we went with the suggested martini.
Dinner selection was awesome. Prices were on par with the excellence of the food. My waiter Loren was very helpful is accommodating my date's dietary preferences. Very knowlegible and patient. Wine pairings were excellent.
The food was excellent. I had the trout appetizer and house pasta with beef short ribs and lamb. My date had a delicious salad and featured fish.
We requested to move out to the porch for the sunset and dessert. They were very accommodating and pleasant. We shared the peanut butter pie and had 10 yo Tawney Port.
All-in-all a wonderful evening. The owner Char checked with us several times. Was very engaging and welcoming.
Top notch food service and total experience.
Lovely experience as usual for our favorite special occasion destination. There was a large group in the dining room and we asked to be moved. There is a lovely library room where we had a very special delicious meal to celebrate our anniversary. Service and foot were outstanding.
Char's continues to be a favorite dining spot. As usual, we were greeted warmly. Our cocktails were delicious. We recommend the caesar and the beet salads, but I am sure they are all good. We opted for the tempting pasta and fish specials. The regular menu items are tempting, but we always order the specials. The pasta featured scallops with linguine in a rich, buttery sauce. The fish was served with creamy risotto and topped with diced mango. Both were outstanding. Limoncello and bread pudding were the perfect finish to a lovely dining experience. The servers were friendly and attentive. Don't wait for a special occasion to enjoy a fine dining experience.
Can't think of a friendlier place with better food in the Harrisburg area. I live in Palm Beach and every time I get to Harrisburg I try to get to Char's. Char greeted us at the door and said "welcome back!" noting that our previous visit was about a year ago! Wow! We had great cocktails...try the Cosmo Blanco...and after a wonderful dinner Chef Ron came out to get our feedback on his cooking. Nothing could have made our wonderful experience better.
We enjoyed the understated elegance of this restaurant and the quiet ambiance provided in the beautiful dining room. The service was good, but considering the upscale cost we were disappointed that an additional piece of cranberry bread at the start of the meal and more iced tea and wine during the meal weren't offered. The special risotto was delicious, consisting of short rib sausage, spinach, and peas. The pork tenderloin was done to perfection.
Absolutely fabulous meal and experience from the time we were greeted by Char when we arrived until we left to the well-wishes of the staff. This restaurant has to be among the top 10 in the Nation. If you have friends from out of town that you want to impress with the dining options in PA, then by all means choose Char's.
