Char's Tracy Mansion
The facility offers several venues for Private Dining
Char's is the ultimate fine dining experience in Central PA. Ambiance, food, drinks and service are exceptional. While prices are at the higher end, the experience is worth the price. The owner, host and servers make you feel like a welcome guest. The menu provides creative and ample choice and changes periodically. Cocktails are plentiful and expertly prepared. The décor is pleasant and contemporary. During the summer months, the outdoor seating enhances the experience with views of the river and West Shore. Definitely our favorite in Central PA.
Excellent food, very good service, nice view, beautiful mansion, easy parking, and very nice experience!
Was here out of town. Did not realize was restaurant week and had very limited menu. $40.00 each meal. For ok dinner. Oysters very small. Food ok but not spectacular or out of this world. Service was good. If visiting again, would try somewhere else.
Our first visit to Char's was during Harrisburg Restaurant week. We sat outside on the beautiful patio with an incredible view of the river and sunset. Our server was very friendly but our food took over an hour to arrive and was mediocre at best. I have heard incredible things about Char's so I may be willing to try them out again when there isn't a promotion but based on our first experience, I would hope things could only get better.
We took two close friends for their first visit. Suffice it to say - they were very impressed. From the onset they loved the ambiance and the view. Our waiter, Peter, was excellent. The food was outstanding. We had been there a number of times and never disappointed and Saturday only added to our feelings about Char's.
Delicious food, lovely service, stunning view of the river. What a treasure for Central PA!
Excellent atmosphere and food. Front patio is wonderful.
Food was very good, service was very good. Unfortunately, seating arrangements were handled very poorly by Char. We were told we had Veranda seats by Char earlier in the day when she called to confirm our reservation. Upon arrival we were informed those seats were not available. We were told that it was because we did not return a voicemail to confirm Veranda seating. Where we sat was not the issue, anyone can make a mistake and that is understandable. What is definitely not acceptable is wrongly placing the blame for a problem (with a smug attitude) on the customer Anyone who deals with the public should realize that is breaking a cardinal principle of good business practice.
Beautiful patio sunset, great service at bar, host and owner!!!
Overlooking the Susquehanna river Chars offers the unique cuisine of executive chef Ron Canady in a casually elegant atmosphere. In the warm weather months dining outdoors on the veranda is wonderful.
Our table enjoyed Barramundi, pork loin risotto and blackened sea scallops and the cuisine and service were excellent. The pear and endive salad is a staple of this restaurant and is outstanding. The octopus appetizer was also fantastic. A must for Harrisburg dining, whether for a special occasion or just a great night out.
New to Carlisle, PA by way of Army War College for the Academic 2019-2020 year, venture out based on great reviews, history of the building and inspiring change by a woman owner-Ms Char I was ecstatic to visit! Food was exquisite, ambience, service and art pieces were beauties. We celebrated our 20-year anniversary and highly recommend!
Outstanding service. Great attention to details and presentation.Food was beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. Overall professionally executed. A Premier Restaurant!!
Always a go-to place for excellent food in an elegant, but not pretentious, place. A wide range of food from sophisticated to comfort. Excellent wine and cocktail list.
Always great food, hospitable employees and beautiful scenery.
Nice place, but overpriced for the area. Food had very nice design, but was over salted. We stayed outside that had beautiful view on the river, but tons of spiders hanging down from the ceiling.
My wife and I went for her birthday. It was the first time we were there and our only regret was we did not go sooner. We had the seafood risotto and steak. Both dishes were prepared to perfection. I also had the grilled octopus which also was excellent. The service was outstanding and the staff very friendly and accommodating. It was not an inexpensive dinner but was well worth it. We will go again!
The location a and atmosphere was great. The food was really good for the price and our server was great.
Great food & service, and a great view of the Susquehanna River.
Good except our server threw out our entree instead of boxing it up, like she had done for our appetizer. Who boxes up the leftover app and not the leftover entree?? Very disappointing, considering it cost $200
Excellent food, service and atmosphere! This is quickly becoming one of our favorite places to dine especially with the outdoor seating facing the beautiful riverfront. We love the crab cocktail appetizer and the scallops or fish special never disappoint. Our favorite server is Harriet - she is just lovely and so friendly. Definitely would recommend to anyone for best restaurant in Harrisburg area.
It was the perfect setting to celebrate our anniversary! Everything was excellent!
While the views were awesome, we were disappointed when we asked a simple question of our waitress about the local area. She responded that she didn’t have time to answer our question as she was too busy. We thought this was rude and not warranted, given that she seemed to spend time with others chit chatting. Two of our four meals were only slightly warm (pasta dishes) and contained limited ingredients that were described. Our other meals were great so maybe we caught them on a bad night, when there were limited servers. Will try again as the owner was very friendly and engaging and the outside dining is wonderful!
I have been a fan of Char's since she was in Shipoke. The best filet in Harrisburg is served at Char's Tracy Mansion.
Awesome dinner, live entertainment, waterfront view. Char’s never disappoints. Halibut special was outstanding as was the risotto with swordfish. Left me looking forward to my next dining experience there!
Great food great wine selection and Lori was great hostess.
Our table for 4 had fun time. Got complimentary bread basket to go that made for tasty breakfast the next morning.
Our evening was fabulous.
Cocktails are always up to par per Brittany. Chef Ron's 2 special entrees were soo delicious!
Food was delicious! Service was great. We’ll definitely be back!!
This was our 2nd time to Char's. The 1st time was in the winter so obviously we were inside. This time we sat on the patio facing the river. It was a great view and the service was perfect. Our server was very nice and professional, explained the specials thoroughly. We will definitely be going back!
It was my first time here. And I will be back. Great food and service all around.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere, as expected. We have never been disappointed at Chars. Highly recommended!
We sat at the varanda. They should install more fans to get rid of the flies. Too many, make the dinner unpleasant. The food was not high standard. The escargot was floating in a kind of soup made of some butter and spinach. No good taste. The risoto, was somewhat soured with an enormous piece of fish over it. The fish was over condiment and probably was frozen before, because came with top very hard to cut or eat.
We had been to Char's once before and it was an exquisite experience. We are occasional visitors to Harrisburg. This time we were celebrating our friends' anniversary and I had arranged for a dessert to be brought to the table (even if no one ordered anything, I said we would pay for something. In fact someone at the restaurant confirmed that with me earlier in the day). Not only was that never done but when we asked the server to give us a few minutes to decide on coffee, etc , she did not return for 20 minutes and only after I asked another server to get our check. Then it took her another 10 minutes between when we gave her our credit cards until when she brought back our cards and bills. At that point, she said "Oh, it is someone's anniversary?" to which we replied yes and she said "Happy Anniversary". She did say a big party had come in and she was working on that but 20 minutes and then 10 minutes was unacceptable. She never really apologized. My thought would have been that she offer a complimentary after dinner drink or some sort of acknowledgement. While our dinners were very good, the last 45 minutes really ruined the experience for all of us. It was very disappointing.
Great dining Joel our server was great!
Pricey, but great food in a beautiful setting. The best martinis. Our server brought a perfect wine to go with my entree. Added bonus (and telling feature): the bathrooms are really nice!
Great !!! Everyone would enjoy!!!
First-rate restaurant for a quiet meal. Great river views.
Sat outside on a date night. Perfect weather and ambiance. Service was great. Food was good, not great. And I'm only saying not great because it is a premium priced establishment. Granted, I'm judging this on the two meals we had and not the whole menu. I'm sure there's some gems in there. That being said, I will be back to try more of the menu.
Innovative cuisine with a beautiful riverfront view. Great outdoor live music on Friday evenings (summer) played at a volume that doesn’t interfere with conversation. Dining on the porch is a must in the warm weather!
My husbands meal was the worst meal he has ever had at Chars
