The halibut ceviche was not very good, and the portion was tiny. The soup tastes like Campbell's. The fried zucchini was good, but it was literally 5 razor thin slices. Not a good value. Very friendly service.

Go go to this restaurant!! If you are out of town, don’t be discouraged because of the location. This will be the best meal you have in Alaska, hands down!!! Service is impeccable and passionate about the food. The food is 5 stars and holds its own against the top restaurants in LA/NYC!! Wine compliments all the food as well. I could go on and on about this place and you can try everything on the menu as it’s that good. The manager is the best as is everyone who works there

Incredibly disappointing. We were excited to try Charlou, and when we arrived we waited and waited to be greeted - and there was only one table at the time. Servers and others were gathered at the bar, and kept staring at us until finally saying we could choose a seat. (I'd made reservations on Open Table, and we were never asked if we'd done so.) Once seated, I asked the server about corkage, as I'd brought wine. I got a bizarrely vague song and dance about how it hadn't yet been figured out, being a new place and all. Seriously? You own 2 wine retail shops. It shouldn't be tough to navigate. Even with that, when you're fairly empty on a Friday night I think there might be a little incentive to figure it out. All in all, we felt as if we were intruding. On a place of business. That apparently needs the revenue. We'll be in no hurry to return.

Hi, this is Pamela, owner of La Bodega and Charlou. Thank you for your feedback. We've read your review as a staff. We apologize for your wait. We've implemented a corkage fee of $20. We're working on a plan to have a waived corkage if the bottle was purchased from one of our three La Bodega stores and will be sure to send you a note when we have that implemented. We really appreciate that you came to Charlou and look forward to serving you. Thank you, Pamela

Mostly a great experience with a few opportunities to improve. Loved the atmosphere and everyone working there. EXCELLENT wine list and beer selection. We had sparkling Rose and grapefruit sour beer, all excellent. Loved the lemon rice soup - very filling. Loved both halibut sandwiches. Could improve kids menu and the pasta. Kids menu: portions were very very small. I know kids are also small but ours can each eat a whole steak so we had to order two orders of pasta. Also, the burger is a slider with a crusty bun that is so big a kid can't eat it. I tried scooping out the bread but by that point the kiddo was too upset. The pasta says it's in a light lemon cream sauce - the emphasis should be on lemon! Had the lemon been halved I could have eaten it but it was just too overwhelming. I would have liked to taste the garlic! Looks like they might have live bands and they have outside seating. Overall, we really liked it.

The food is some of the best I have ever had in Anchorage. They offer some really different types of meals, great appetizers with some very good Beers and Wine.

Very cute space, looks much nicer than the old Tap Root venue. Service was great, and the ambience was nice. We started with the Charlou salad with green goddess dressing. Salad was fresh and pretty. Unfortunately the dressing missed the mark. It tasted like it had a tahini base which is NOT in green goddess dressing. I’d suggest either re-naming the dressing to something more fitting (not a fan of tahini) or make a more authentic green goddess dressing. I got the hot halibut sandwich and my husband got the dockside halibut sandwich. Both sandwiches were excellent and the fish was cooking perfectly. The homemade chips were a nice surprise too, they were very good! Restaurant has some great potential and is a good addition to the Spenard restaurant scene.

Service was great. Beer and wine options terrific. Unfortunately the meal was only mediocre.

They've done an excellent job with this place! You expect a little roughness from a new restaurant, but I was extremely pleasantly surprised. The menu is DELICIOUS and really allergy friendly! Service was lovely and it was just overall an amazing place to go for a birthday dinner. I will definitely be back!
