Chicken Piccata was excellent. Calamari delicious. Crispy fries. Perfect baked potatoes. Very nice meal and relaxing setting by the golf course and lake.

A Disastrous Experience – Would Strongly Advise Against We had a reservation at Charlie's in Windsor, CA, but from the moment we arrived, things went downhill fast. Despite having booked ahead, we stood at the host stand for about 10 minutes completely ignored, while staff rushed around in apparent disarray – even though the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. When we were finally shown to a table, we were handed completely empty menus. We waited another 20 minutes without anyone approaching us. When we asked a staff member if she thought we were Harry Potter (hoping she could magically read our minds), she handed us two paper slips – no explanation, no real menus. Our server – who never told us her name – didn't write down our order, didn’t ask for any sides or preferences, and then simply vanished. After another 30 minutes of absolutely nothing happening, I approached a different staff member to at least pay for our drinks and leave. His response? “Don’t worry about that, nothing to pay.” That about sums it up. The entire team seemed completely overwhelmed and uncoordinated. Staff were rushing about, yet no one seemed to be accomplishing anything. And to top it all off: there was a dried-up dead fly on the corner of our table the whole time. This place was a complete mess from start to finish. A dining experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. This place is a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant. Avoid at all costs – unless you’re in the mood for frustration, filth, and farce.

Wow! We’ve dined many times at Charlie’s, as it had been one of our favorite local restaurants. Not any more. They fired their wonderful chef Robert, with no explanation, and then cut their menu in half. Hearing Robert enthusiastically tell us about his menu was like a religious experience, especially his imported Italian pasta. Once Robert was fired, the entire kitchen staff quit in mass, and the FOH staff wasn’t far behind. Our server told us he was exhausted from listening to patrons complain, and that he’d allready given his notice. The food quality has gone way downhill. Our Old Fashioneds had no garnishes - NO cherry - NO orange peel. My medium-rare burger was cooked medium well, and was indistinguishable from my wife’s medium well-burger. Our Caesar salad lacked flavor. Finally, the bar area was very noisy with drunken golfers, and it was difficult at times to carry on a conversation between two people at a small table. We are so sorry to loose one of our regular dining spots Goodbye Charlie’s!

My friends and I sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather and view of the golf course and grounds. I had the Cobb salad which was delicious and fresh. Great service including a waitress rushing out to the parking lot give us a sweater we had forgotten.

The food was very good. I had a French Dip sandwich on a nice roll; it was tender and very good. My friend had the tri-tip salad, which looked good and which she enjoyed. It is a nice location, with a view of the Windsor Golf Course. Inside and outside dining.

Love Charlie’s, as a rule. Love the patio and the food is always very good. We are regulars. This time we brought out of town friends and sat inside because the day was chilly. The calamari appetizer was bland. Fish and chips were over breaded, overcooked with stale french fries. The onion soup was adequate. One salad was ordered specifically without bacon; the salad arrived with lots of bacon mixed all the way through. The waitress was shocked, said that she had written “no bacon” on her request to the kitchen and ultimately didn’t charge us for that salad. The Caesar salad with chicken had too much dressing and the chicken was tough and tasted old. We will be back because we believe this was an anomaly. The staff is always friendly and responsive. But the kitchen was having a very, very bad day.
