   Food was so good! Everything from the shrimp cocktail to my hallibut and even had room for one of the specials for desert. When you first see the entree you seem to think it's a small portion, but it was actually perfect! We left not hungry at all and finished everything on the plates. The servers were around all the time and we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes if we needed something. It's a little on the pricey side, but it is worth it especially for a nice special occasion.

   Always pretty good, not always as great as the ratings here might imply. Charlie’s is probably the best restaurant on the barrier island and for some locals, which make up a large portion of the clientele, that’s worth an extra half star ratings bump I guess. I’m more likely to travel 15-20 minutes further to Larimar in Spring Lake or just 5 minutes further to Daniel’s in Pt. Pleasant to guarantee a five star meal. Meanwhile, if you’re on the island and don’t want to wander, don’t mind the nosier bar-like atmosphere while eating, or difficulty booking a near-term reservation, Charlie’s is still your best on-island 4 star restaurant with 5 star pricing. If you need to be seen, go here. If you want the best meal for the money..maybe not. Maybe if you get the back room tables away from the bar noise, with nice views overlooking the lake out back you’ll think the food tastes a star better? Hey, ambiance counts and Charlie’s got it. Just don’t order the seafood pasta dish. It’s spicy enough, but a bit disappointing especially if you are a true fra diavolo fan. The sauce is tomato based, but not authentically Italian. Kind of more like Ragu with extra chili powder. Cordi’s it was NOT. I probably should have gone with my skeptical self (when in Rome, etc.), but the server gave it big props so I rolled the dice. My bad. Almost anything else would have been better I’m sure, hence the generous 4 stars despite this one truly 3 star miss. The liquor license at Charlie’s is a plus however, especially if you require that martini first course or like paying $130 for that $60 retail bottle of Moët in your wine cooler. Saving the extra 100+ bucks on liquor at the BYOB’s though is always worth an extra star in the “value” category, but no one goes to Charlie’s more then once expecting to get a value meal! So three stars is probably not a surprise here.

   Everything was great . My only complaint is that the heat was drastically lowered upstairs midaway thru our meal. It was pretty cold outside and as a result the room got cold real fast without having the heat on. There were only two tables still eating upstairs and I guess mgt felt it wasn’t worth having the heat on in such a big room for just two tables. In my opinion that was “penny wise and dollar foolish” ! We were a party of three and we all felt the chill. I will be sure to return but definitely will not be sitting upstairs.

   I wanted everything to be great because we’ve had such a great time there in the past but it just wasn’t. Cocktails we’re exceptional. The calamari was as well. Unfortunately that’s where it ends. The service was terrible. Our waitress was very nice but clearly overwhelmed. Our salad order was put in wrong first and then had to be corrected and there were several times where we just didn’t know where she was. The gap between the appetizer and the entrees seemed like forever but The final straw was the steak. We were out for our anniversary so I splurged for the NY strip which. It was cooked properly from what i could tell (medium rare) but was soooo chewy. I mean like London broil level. For a $45 steak I did expect quite a bit more. I ended up eating about 1/4 of it and brought the rest home to give away. We really like Charlies so I am hoping this is an anomaly, but it was so disappointing.
