Amazing vegan food- which you would never think is really vegan.

Bustling but you can hear the person next to you, fancy but you can wear jeans, it adds up but no individual plate is expensive. Between the two of us we were able to try nearly half the menu and everything was quite good including the potato chips. The cocktails were notably excellent and you could really taste the premium additions. Finally, the berry creme brulee was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Seated immediately at our reservation time. Very fast delivery of the plates after ordering. Pretty excellent overall.

Highly, highly recommend this place! Food was all really good, though some dishes more impressive than others, and drinks were terrific. Really no complaints, a great stop for vegan dining that I really think anyone would love, vegan or not.

Me and my husband traveled two hours to celebrate my birthday. We’d been a few times for cocktails and snacks and were happy with it - so I was super excited. My excitement quickly became disappointment. The food has really gone downhill! Literally everything we ordered was subpar. You know it’s bad when you can’t bring yourself to eat a small plate when hungry. We left plates barely touched. The waitress couldn’t have cared less that we didn’t even eat our food. She just cleared our plates and brought our check. We left after paying our hefty tab (which we wouldn’t have minded had we enjoyed it) and went to Vedge and had a few things and some drinks in an attempt to salvage the evening. Definitely crossing CWAS off our list. :(

My husband and I went here for dinner after Valentine’s Day per recommendation of a friend. It was very busy but we were served drinks right away and the staff was super friendly. The service was amazing and it was quite possibly the best vegan food I had in Philly. Even the table next to us was raving about how great the food was.

The food was good! Surprised it was vegan :)
The manager/owner was friendly; you could tell he cares a lot. He greeted everyone & made us feel right at home. Very relaxed & inviting.
My only complaints; the lights kept dimming & getting brighter the whole meal which was a bit distracting at first, but not a huge deal after we got used to it.
The waiter was super nice & helpful, he knew everything on the menu. Although it was a little unprofessional...I was waiting for the bathroom (that is in the staffs register area) for a while & overheared the staff say the person inside the bathroom must be taking a sh*t along with some other banter. They didn't seem to care about what customers heard while waiting by their station. I can see how that would be funny & everyone's human... but hearing staff say that knowing I could hear (I was standing 3 feet from them) definitely took the place down a peg for me. Made me feel like they just go behind the curtain and make fun of customers or whatever else without caring who's in ear shot.
Besides that it was good! We would go again.

Me first full on Vegan experience. Everything was outstanding. Crowded on a Thursday night so a reservation is a must.

I’ve been here twice and the drinks were killer (strong and tasty) both times. The food also leaves nothing to be desired and, frankly, I’m amazed that it’s completely vegan. I can’t recommend this place enough! It is quite cozy so be prepared to squeeze yourself into your seating.

Visited this past Saturday, make a reservation... tables up front seem super tight normal seating in back is perfect even for a larger dude such as myself 280+. Potato croquettes are a must order, but everything we tried was great. We’re not vegan but were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the vegan versions of so many dishes. Would recommend and return!

Excellent all around - the place is narrow but they use space well - not crammed; perfect cocktails and tapas style vegan food. Go early and def recommend reservations.

One of my top 5 restaurants. Great cocktails. The corner booths under the projection are the bests seats in the house. You wouldn’t even know it was vegan! To enjoy a fine dining vegan program, Charlie is the place!

It was GREAT that their menu has been updated... it needed and overhaul desperately, and it did not disappoint!! For those of you who love “Korean style” goods, they have an amazing Korean fried tofu that has a perfect heat!! We really enjoyed our dinner!!

Good food and atmosphere. I really enjoyed most of the dishes that I ordered and our cocktails (Penicillin) were so good. We did have a bit of a wait for our drinks, which is my only complaint. My husband ordered a drink near the end of our meal that didn't arrive until we were done eating.

The food is always amazing. I am always surprised by how rich it is. The Charlie sliders were hearty little bundles of goodness. The East of Eden was a lovely beverage, and chocolate pots de creme was to die for.

Food was stellar!!!! Space is small, cramped, and dark, but the food made it worth it. It was quite a while before a waiter came to our table, but once he did, service was quick and great. I would go back and I would recommend it to everyone.

I used to love this restaurant, and I remember the food as always being solid. However, this time, perhaps the kitchen was off? Just about half of the dishes we had were disappointing. The spinach bakoula was gritty and flavors were poorly balanced - the spinach was bitter, which was quite a surprise, given the fact that I eat spinach both raw and cooked and love it regardless, normally. The French Onion soup was overwhelmingly salty, as if made with a LOT of cheap bouillon cubes. The mu-shu tofu was also on the very salty side. The remainder of the food was just ok - nothing really stood out except for the fact one could taste more than just one overwhelming flavor. I have to admit it was a bit embarrassing as my friend was in from California, and I had bragged to her about how wonderful our Philadelphia vegan restaurants are, and how we had to get to Charlie was a sinner.! On the plus side, our waitress was quite nice and drinks were strong and delicious. Finally, the raspberry sorbet was excellent!

I’ll come back again in case this was just a bad day but oh, Charlie. What happened??

The drinks were amazing! The food was subpar. I was expecting the food to be much better. I would go back to try more of their dishes to give it another try. Just wish each dish had more flavor. But I was impressed with the sliders.

Absolutely loved the server. The food was really wonderful... it’s just very loud in there and (not the restaurants fault) I felt overly invested in our neighbor’s conversation because of how loud they were. Can’t wait to go back.
