Charlie was a sinner.
Food and service are always great! Just wish they gave a bit larger portions especially for the price of some of the dishes! The potato gnocchi are the best!
Absolutely terrific. Came for celebration of a friend last night at 945. Our server (Sofia?) was excellent. Food and drinks were so nice!
Very good! Thank you
Great food. Great service.
I used to love this restaurant, and I remember the food as always being solid. However, this time, perhaps the kitchen was off? Just about half of the dishes we had were disappointing. The spinach bakoula was gritty and flavors were poorly balanced - the spinach was bitter, which was quite a surprise, given the fact that I eat spinach both raw and cooked and love it regardless, normally. The French Onion soup was overwhelmingly salty, as if made with a LOT of cheap bouillon cubes. The mu-shu tofu was also on the very salty side. The remainder of the food was just ok - nothing really stood out except for the fact one could taste more than just one overwhelming flavor. I have to admit it was a bit embarrassing as my friend was in from California, and I had bragged to her about how wonderful our Philadelphia vegan restaurants are, and how we had to get to Charlie was a sinner.! On the plus side, our waitress was quite nice and drinks were strong and delicious. Finally, the raspberry sorbet was excellent!
I’ll come back again in case this was just a bad day but oh, Charlie. What happened??
One of my favorite spots to visit whenever I’m in Philadelphia. Amazing food and great service!
The drinks were amazing! The food was subpar. I was expecting the food to be much better. I would go back to try more of their dishes to give it another try. Just wish each dish had more flavor. But I was impressed with the sliders.
Absolutely loved the server. The food was really wonderful... it’s just very loud in there and (not the restaurants fault) I felt overly invested in our neighbor’s conversation because of how loud they were. Can’t wait to go back.
Awesome drinks and the menu is completely vegan and everything is delicious!
The food, drinks, atmosphere and staff were all amazing. I would recommend this place to everyone for a special night out. Thank you Charlie was a sinner for a great night.
Always an outstanding experience, from the food to the craft cocktails. Our favorite Philadelphia restaurant even with the usual carnivores in our group.
Perfect New Years Eve dinner!
everything was great except the hostesses seemed annoyed by us. we came an hour early so i get it, but we also acknowledged this and weren’t demanding or anything like that either, and simply hung out at the bar until our res time so their reaction was a bit surprising. it was subtle and i’m not saying they always have to be chipper and happy all the time, but they were unpleasant enough to make me feel like we were imposing them by coming to the restaurant at all.... everyone else like the bartender and our server and the food/drinks were lovely though!
Whether you're vegan or not, this food is awesome! Mostly tapas style servings so you can try a bunch with a group or just eat all the goodness yourself! The service is impeccable, the drinks are creative and delicious, and the food menu and tastes are exquisite! Highly recommend and can't wait to return!
It was a lovely atmosphere and the food was phenomenal. Everything we were looking for. Service was great and am excited for the next visit.
Too noisy and pretentious. Definitely not a place to have a conversation or have a filling meal. Won’t be coming back. Croquettes were good. Rest was average.
Charlie is always a great trip when i can afford it.
I recently dined at Charlie was a Sinner around the holidays with my cousin from out of town. I had never heard of it before and she recommended it. I cannot rave about this place enough. Everything we had was absolutely incredible. We ordered around 6 plates since it’s tapas style and shared everything down to the dessert. The drinks were delicious, every dish was delicious, our server was very polite and funny. My cousin and I are both gluten free and I’m plant based, and we had no issue finding options to eat here. I didn’t even know the menu was entirely vegetarian until I arrived! Love that! 10/10 experience, I’ll definitely be back
Interesting experience - very dark, very loud and rather expensive given the menu. Food was interesting but not consistent. Soup was bland (French onion), fritters were the best, risotto lacked flavor. Tofu got high marks, as did the chocolate pot de crème, but the crème brulee was a real disappointment. Wait staff was genial but waiter recommended everything as the best! Also didn't expect or want a giant bottle of Pellegrino when I asked if they had sparkling water. Nice atmosphere generally with fun crowd.
Unfortunately, not as good as Vedge. Server was super friendly and attentive. Food was average. It’s a really small space, almost uncomfortably so, tables really close together. Overall, not the best dining experience.
Came here Christmas Eve at 4pm. Was seated right away and waitress was prompt to take drink order and give us menus. Staff was great and helpful on selections. Drinks were tasty and not overly strong. And food.....OMG the food! In my opinion some of the best if not the best vegan food I have ever had. Honestly I love Vedge and V Street but this was better. At least selection on this night was outstanding and tasted like "More" I will definitely be back and as soon as possible.
It was a busy night, lots of people and even with that the food and service was great. Food and drinks are always super delicious. Jennifer is a great waitress.
Charlie’s is the best!
Delish. If you like spice and flavor. Korean fried tofu is for you. Kale salad was solid, and we always come back for the meatballs
Wonderful food. Waiter was fantastic. Can't wait to return!
We really enjoyed every dish we ordered from the ricotta, mushroom risotto, cauliflower steak, pasta and meatballs, and taters. I'm was so pleased to see that you've added more high quality options the on the gluten free menu. Service was great too! We'll be back!
Best vegan restaurant in Philly, hands down
Loved the experience and the food was amazing too
good vegan fare
Was my favorite restaurant in philly but just found out they use canola oil in everything. :((( so disappointing
Let me preface: we are not vegan. Boyfriend and I went because we had a gift card. The wait staff was wonderful, and the food was good but it is so expensive I'm not sure how I would've felt if it had been coming out of my own pocket which to me doesn't seem worth it. For 2 drinks, and about 4 small plates it was around $125. However, the drinks were great. I'd come back for the ambiance and drinks but probably not for the food unless I have some vegan friends with me who I am sure would appreciate it more than us.
Absolutely amazing!! Everything from the drinks, to the food to the desserts are always 10/10. All of the food is so versatile and flavorful. And we brought along two non vegan friends who were so impressed they said they plan on bringing their non vegan friends back!
Amazing. But it wasn’t necessary to tell us they are “not particularly child friendly” on the phone or of the waiter to say “can he handle a glass? I know nothing about kids” about our six year old who didn’t make a peep or drop anything but just read his book.
Forgot to put Tofu on our tofu dinner. Apology was sincere but the error definitely delayed our meal time.
Food was great overall, with the ricotta being a highlight in several dishes. Pickled beets were amazing; cauliflower steaks were neither steaks nor excellent.
A great restaurant for vegans and non vegans. The food was delicious with tapas style ordering. The cocktail menu alone makes it worth a stop. I went on a very busy night with a large party on Marathon weekend. The service was good considering the circumstances . I would love to go again when things aren’t as hectic with a smaller group.
It was Jonathan’s Birthday Celebration! We had another amazing meal!!!
Might I suggest having menus with larger writing or that the lighting is slightly brighter. For people who are older than the millennial age group it was difficult to read anything on your menu. My husband & I both thought your zucchini "crab" cake sliders were the best part of our 6 plate order. But do to the difficulty reading the menu & the lighting we probably will not return. Wishing you a very busy Holiday season. Thank you.
We had a great time at Charlie's! The food was excellent and cocktails out of the ordinary! De wanted vegan, with got excellant vegan! After a week of pubs, beers, burgers we wanted veggies and healthy food. We got it, with very good Chardonnay!
I'm a regular so already love the bar and the people working there, but a friend's birthday I recently celebrated there and it was awesome. Tim, the bartender, made amazing drinks for me and my friends and the food was awesome. It's always a cool scene in there.
