A very nice meal, quality ingredients well executed in a classically trained kitchen. No real surprises but we were not looking for any. The restaurant had a nostalgic vibe...the decor seems dated but not tired, I think it has been at this location for a while, perhaps 30 years? The night we dined was not busy and we were seated in a secluded section of the back dining area, away from the other diners...apparently there are two "rooms" but on OT there is no distinction on where you are reserving. We were presented with the "pre-show" menu but luckily we had looked online and knew that there was a regular menu where we could find the pre-fixe dinner menu we were excited about. (Perhaps the wait staff initially sized us up and downgraded our menus...but I won't take offense where it was not intended...) The highlight of the restaurant is their wine list, in particular the offering of L'Ouverature 1er Cru Champagne by Savart...a gem in plain site (a favorite of mine but rarely see on menus) that the wine server was not aware of but was pleasantly surprised to try...a perfect balance of fruit, savory and acidity...I would dine here again just for this Champagne!!!
Reasonable portions, good service and food
The hostess was friendly and helpful when we entered and left that evening. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. We had drinks at the bar and the bartender was very nice and quick to making our drinks. We had the branzino and chicken which both were delicious. The chocolate peanut butter dessert and the strawberry and white chocolate dessert were amazing! Definitely will be going back! Highly recommend Aureole.
My serving team was fantastic! And each course was better than the last. It was a great experience.
Simple lunch prix fixe - excellent value for delicious food if you stay on this menu.
Pre Broadway show
Went here for a pre-show dinner. Sat in the Liberty Room. Everything was fabulous from the service, to the food to the ambiance. Started with the warm goat cheese salad and tuna as appetizers. Both exquisite. Then moved on to the scallops (perfectly seared on the top and warm inside, but not the least bit chewy) and the branzino (my wife loved it). Topped off with Peanut + Chocolate Gâteaux, which was a wonderful mix of chocolate and peanut butter flavors and textures. The waiters and sommelier were knowledgeable, helpful and unobtrusive. The noise level was such it was easy to hold a conversation, but not too quiet.

Aureole has always been our favorite restaurant since the days when it was still at the upper east side. It was in a beautiful townhouse and the ambiance was absolutely welcoming, cozy and elegant. The food was always sublime. It moved to the theater district many years ago and in the beginning the restaurant felt completely different. However the food and service have remained unchanged. The deco has changed in recent years and on Friday evening I noticed that all the tables have the warm looking table cloths. That gave the restaurant a warmer ambiance again. We all ordered different dishes and we had a wonderful meal before we went to see Dear Evan Hansen. My friends and I cried our eyes due to the subject of the musical but everyone thought that we had a perfect evening. We loved the show but most importantly our dinner! I gave myself a thumb up because I planned the whole weekend for our out of town houseguests and friends. in Manhattan.
Wonderful food beautifully served in a pleasant environment. So pleased to be so close to the theaters!
We decided to eat at the bar this visit. Sean and Tyler, as always, took great care of us. Sean mixes the best cocktails (let him be creative for you), and Tyler knows more about wine than any sommelier I have met. The food is always first rate, and you can't beat the service these gentlemen provide.

Food and service were amazing. chicken entree was a tad too much salt( probably the hue, but I’m really splitting hairs here).Veal cheeks was spectacular. Manhattan was great. Definitely will be coming back.

Very nice place. Although we were in a rush due to a concert we were going to. Would have been better if I had been able to spend more time. Food was great service too. Overall was very happy. Only thing would be to go here when you can experience the full meal
30 year anniversary. Very poor service. Extremely slow between one course and another.
Normally fantastic, but Valentine's prefix was a disaster. 200 a person with wine pairing and it was barely edible with tiny portions. The filet minion was literally cut in half. I want to know who ate the other half. The service is fantastic though.
Food was mediocre especially for the high price. At the table next to us 2 persons dressed shabbily were eating hamburgers with fries from a paper bag with their fingers. Felt like being at McDonalds
Have dined here before and had highest expectations based on that great experience. We had issues with service. Ordered a wonderful bottle of Montrachet...it was served at room temperature. Asked for it to be chilled and we ordered a cocktail while it chilled. Surprising they don’t know what temperature to serve wine given their amazing wine list. Then after a wonderful meal we asked for the ‘after dinner’ drink menu multiple times. The after dinner drink menu arrived AFTER our desserts were served. Pretty basic misses. Lastly it was near impossible to get the check after we made our disappointment with the service known. All that said the food was amazing as expected.
Service and presentation was excellent, but food was mediocre and overpriced. Disappointing.
I have been many times, as the food is always exceptional. The same was true again. But our bartender seemed very moody and it took a very long time to get our wine. More shocking was the unclean bathrooms. I had to leave one because it was not functioning. Seems like this place is slipping...needs attention.
We came here 2 years ago and we had an awesome meal. That’s why we decided to come back for the restaurant week. Completely different experience. The service was very slow and not attentive (we asked to have cocktails and wine at the same time, they said “of course “, but did not happen, we asked for 3 wine pairings and we got 4, etc). Food was bad pub style.They did not even ask how we wanted the steak cooked (of course it came overcooked).
If you have to serve mediocre food for the restaurant week, then just don’t participate
Excellent food and service. Everyone was helpful and accommodating. So surprised with the service considering we were there for the pre fix dinner. Never received the excellent food and service in other high end restaurants visited during restaurant week. Will be back.
Great dining experience before our Broadway show. Our hostess Angie was very accommodating, helpful and all around pleasant. e chose the prefixed restaurant week menu and it did not disappoint. In addition, we ordered two appetizers from the main menu: foie gras and tuna crudo, both were amazing. Steak was prepared to perfection. Desert was very appetizing and delicious. We also opted for the wine pairings and it did not disappoint!
We booked this restaurant to celebrate my aunt’s 80th birthday, and the staff did all they could to make sure she enjoyed her celebration. Service was fantastic and the staff’s attention to detail is second to none. Food was lovely, and the atmosphere was definitely very special. We have dined here before and will be back again the future, no doubt! Thank you.
Horrible service - will never go back! Waited an hour between 1st course and main course- asked about main course after 40 minutes and was told it was being plated but still waited almost 20 minutes more. Much better restaurants in Manhattan! Skip this one..
I’ve been here numerous times and the food has always been very good. But this time it was not. There were five of us .three of us had cod fish which was very fishy. They were very nice and did ask us if we wanted something else instead and we ordered dick. However it took them a good 40 minutes to make it while the other two at our table had finished their meal. I did speak to the managerWho totally did the right thing and did not charge us for our three main dishes. I would go back but not during restaurant week.
The wait was long but we were seated at a very nice table, the service was polite, pleasant and very professional and best of all, the fish was cooked perfectly.

Aureole is ideally located just around the corner from the New Year's ball-dropping area of Times Square and therefore so close to the Theater District. Subway, buses and Grand Central Terminal are all within a ten-minute walk--parking would be a challenge and expensive. Not an outdoor restaurant but inside an exquisite motif featuring an above-floor wine room display over the bar. We were seated in the rear of the restaurant where our corner booth allowed us a view of the floor. Our server Otilia was great in getting us situated and inquiring whether we had a Broadway show to attend that evening (we did); she promised us we would be out in time to make it to the theater (we did!). We took advantage of the Restaurant Week: I ordered the marinated octopus, croquet and steak with dessert and added a wine pairing for each course. Everything was better than expected, served on time at the right temperature and without a rush so that we enjoyed our meal and conversation. Aureole is worth keeping on the list of favorite eateries!
One of the best Restaurant Week lunches I have had this season. Everything was delicious, the service, attentive & professional. Loved it.
Although the food was well prepared it wasn't very flavorful or distinctive. We were dining there because of restaurant week. For lunch there were three choices for appetizer and main course. The best course we had was the butternut squash veloute. I had the salmon for my main course and although it was prepared perfectly the overall dish just wasn't flavorful or special. The service overall was indifferent. The dining room was beautiful.
food was good but the service was not good enough. they even charge a different amount of tips from what I wrote on the card receipt!
I went during restaurant week for lunch before a Wednesday matinee. The menu had good choices and our portions were very large for a restaurant week deal. The food was delicious and our waiters were very attentive. We will be back!
Aureole is my favorite New York restaurant. It is elegant, quiet -- with a terrific menu. It is convenient to where I usually stay when in New York. It provides haute cuisine without going over the deep end. The wine list is excellent, too -- on this visit, my favorite wine was not listed. I asked the Sommelier about the wine and he was able to fine a bottle that had just arrived, but had not made the menu. Lovely restaurant.
This place is running on fumes and it’s past reputation. Ordered a cocktail which didn’t come until the first course was served. It tasted like a smoothie because it clearly had barely any alcohol despite costing $18. I wanted to order a glass of wine after that but didn’t see our waiter again until after the 2nd course was served. Speak of the 2nd course, my steak was supposed to be medium rare and was closer to rare. The host podium is staffed by people who are too casually and sloppily dressed. This is not a fine dining experience by any stretch, the $69 pre theater price fixe seems like it is a great deal until you realize this restaurant is no better than a restaurant at a Hilton in Iowa.
Excellent food, spotty service, especially with regard to drinks. Dover sole was beautifully prepared, could have used a touch more citrus or salt in the dressing. Tasty side of red cabbage. Spouse had a burger (why?) and said it was very good. Banana pudding dessert was unique and flavorful. Cocktails were outstanding, but getting a second was a challenge.
The service was horrible, came in for a lunch and from the time we walked in to paying it was 3 hours, it took them 45 minutes to take our order. Extremely disappointed.
The restaurant is at a great location, very convenient for people to got to. Food is tasty, but can still improve. I ordered the steak, but no one asked about how I want the stead, and it turned out it came out well done... Not sure whether it was supposed to be cooked that way, but it was a little bit unusual. Service was great!
