Charlie Palmer Steak - DC

I was not impressed at all. We went the day after valentine’s day and we were offered the valentine’s menu. Which had some decent options. I ordered a medium well steak that came out looking medium but in the center was more of a medium rare. My husband ordered a medium steak that came out rare. The waiter was nice, but the restaurant was also very loud. For the money we spent it would have been nice if our food was prepared to our specifications. I would recommend Mastro’s if you looking for a great steak in the city.
My wife and I ordered the Tomahawk Ribeye for 2. It was amazing. The service was great. Highly recommend.
I gotta say everything was perfect except for some of the drinks my girlfriend and I ordered and the service was ok, what I love most about this place was the food, it was EXCELLENT!!... it was a nice experience, I would recommend it
This was an amazing experience. My wife and I celebrated our 15 th anniversary David p was our server he went above and beyond and made our dining experience one of a kind. The food was exquisite and afterwards we was taken on a roof top tour by the manager.
Charlie Palmers is located in the heart beat of our nation and the rises to the occasion providing outstanding and the food is simply amazing
Carlie Palmer is the best steak in D.C. in my opinion. Great atmosphere, great service, great food! Would recommend to anyone!
This place is the Awesome. Great time and really enjoyed the food, drinks, and service.
Services was the Best part. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely
recommend this place..
Haven't had food this good in a while. Try the Spanish octopus and the Wagyu!
World’s best drinks!! Bar team Lamar, Wilfredo, Sage make world class service look seamless. Chef Mike teases your palette with each savory bite. His New York steak was cooked to perfection. Thanks CP for great time!
Went for Valentine’s Day, great service!
Great food and the service was amazing.
Great meal, great value and great service from Josh! Highly recommend!
Shout out to David P. Our dining experience wouldn’t have been so great without his timely intervention and attention to detail.
Celebrated my Daughter's 17th Birthday there, it was a spectacular evening. From the Hotess to the Waiter and to the Staff, they were very attentive for her special occasion. Micheal was an exceptional Server!!! Thank you.
Good quality Steakhouse with a nice wine selection.
The best thing about Charlie Palmer in DC is the location. Beautiful view of the Capital building. Other than that, food was mediocre, overcooked steak and underdressed salad. In addition, our server was unattentive and apathetic.
Service was slow and inattentive
Great dining experience! We are originally from Vegas and we were visiting Washington DC. Will definitely check out the one in Vegas now. Lamar Lusk has put together an impeccable drink list that tastes as good as it looks. I highly recommend the East Allen Sour. After great cocktails, Executive Chef Michael Ellis made sure our dinner was as great a culinary experience. Looking forward to getting back in June! This will be our 1st stop when we get back!
Such a great restaurant, great atmosphere, amazing food, great service! Will definitely come back!
The food was good, but not as good as other high end steakhouses in the area. Crabcakes were literally on the cold side. Shrimp cocktail was excellent. The meat was good but not great. Creamed spinach was no better than an average restaurant. The service was not up to par for this kind of restaurant. Greet time and drink delivery lagged. We sat for 30 minutes after we ate and I don’t believe the server checked on us own time after taking the bill.
Disappointed that the points credit did not apply to this visit. Further disappointed by the fact that I lost out on 1,000 point as I biked this as a rewards dinning credit experience.
Porterhouse for two came out with the filet side badly over cooked. The manager came right over, apologized, made us a separate filet and at the end of our meal waived our drink fee. This is exactly the way to handle it. I haven't eaten here in a while, but I was impressed with how this mistake was handled. Kudos to the staff and I will definitely be back.
The service was good, but the food quality has gone down. We were sorely disappointed, the meat was dry and the bread was stale.
A great experience, best steak in DC. Crabcakes also good, and the sides, wow. Very well done.
This is our go to place on Saturday nights. The bar staff including Lamar, Lewis & Wilfredo are always welcoming, friendly and their food and beverage recommendations are always excellent.
Waiter got the order wrong, and was a bit defensive. However, the manager fixed it quickly without me having to complain.
Very very disappointing. I was excited to dine at Charlie Palmer during restaurant week because it is a highly-regarded steakhouse. The food was very disappointing. I honestly think that the appetizers (sweet potato bisque and lamb "stroganoff") were the best and even they were a very mediocre start. The short rib was tough (I couldn't even cut it) and looked dry as if it had been sitting out for a while. It was not finished at all. The catfish was just salty and oily - not developed. My boyfriend found a bug, alive and moving around but stuck, in the cranberry juice of his cranberry walnut cake. The server replaced it but there wasn't even a teeny apology and he didn't seem concerned about this fluttering bug. I ordered the creme brulee and I couldn't even eat half because it was curdled. I am not a professional baker but I know that smooth creme brulee should not be curdled (I felt like I was eating sweet scrambled eggs) and the top of the creme brulee did not have a caramelized top.
Overall, I would never recommend this restaurant. I will not be going back. I am highly disappointed and felt like I wasted every cent. In addition to paying for 2 restaurant week meals, we also bought raw oysters and glasses of wine. I don't think any of it was worth it.
EDIT: Charlie Palmer management called and sincerely wanted to make things right. I appreciate the careful attention that they give to each review. I do think that they genuinely want to give their diners a great experience. I am hoping that my experience was a one-off incidence. For this phone call, I'm giving their service a 5 star and their 3 stars overall.
Service was just ok, waiter never came back to ask us how our food was. Usually expect better service at a fine dining restaurant. We’ve been to Charlie Palmers several times but certainly feel like this time may be our last, other restaurants in the area with better food and service. I ordered short ribs and felt like they were tough, and not really flavored well
We went for restaurant week, dinner was excellent! Service is always superb all around!
Always a dependable joy to attend CHARLIE PALMER...given its ambience, food choices, and pricing!
The service was lovely, and the food was good. We were able to use the Restaurant Week menu, which we didn't know when we made the reservation, so that made the price worth it.
Beautiful restaurants with a great view. For the price however my ribeye was quite tough but had a good flavour. The fries were absolutely the best part. Again solid meal but not worth the price. Service was focused however they hovered far too much.
The restaurant week menu was great. The value was good.
We had an amazing time, will definitely return in the near future.
We went on a Friday night of Restaurants Week, so CP was extra busy, as would be expected -- this probably would explain the slow service. It took a long while in-between each step of the dinner for the servers to show up again -- in-between ordering our drinks and their delivery, to bringing bread, to ordering, to bringing the appetizer, to bringing dinner, to bringing dessert, and bringing our check, there were long pauses in service all night. Only efficient part of the service were the drink re-fillers -- they were great! Also, the main server who took our meal orders was not very friendly or personable -- he appeared rushed and, as a result, was very direct with no personality nor any attempt to connect with the table.
Dinner was good, but not the "great" we've become accustomed to during our previous visits. We all ordered from the Restaurants Week menu -- all of our meals seemed closer to luke warm than the expected closer to hot. Notably, the polenta served with the pork was served already so cool, the textures was rubbery/coagulated. However, for the main meals, the short ribs were excellent, the stepped-up steak (KC bone-in strip cut) was very good, but the pork piccata was just OK. All the desserts -- crème brulee, walnut cake, and chocolate mousse -- were extremely good; but, the portion sizes were smaller than I recall CP served in the past.
Ambiance was also good -- we always enjoyed our tables at CP close to the front windows, so we could dine with our beautiful Capitol building lit-up as backdrop. Although we got a table near a window that we wanted; unfortunately, it was situated in front of one of the support pillars that blocked us from one of our favorite views.
I dine with alumni friends, friends visiting out of town-business trip, birthday celebration, and this time a girlfriend who's husband transitioned. The food is outstanding, service awesome, and the view of the Capitol the best! The fish, steak, beef tip wonderful.
The staff never cleared plates in between courses.
Placing food down before clearing and setting the silverware down for the next course.
Other than that my friend and I had a lovely lunch.
Thank You
The overall experience was GREAT but we had a few hiccups with with the wait staff understanding a couple of requests but the manager was on top of it and took care of the issues immediately. Would recommend Charlie Palmer to everyone.
Food was very good as expected but service was nonexistent. We poured our own wine and expected much more from this place.
Several of us ordered steaks at our business dinner and they were absolutely terrible. I have been there many times previously and had a great experience, so this was very disappointing. Excellent ambiance and wine list. But the quality of the steaks were absolutely awful. Something must be going on with the kitchen...
