About Charlie Palmer Steak - DC
Charlie Palmer Steak Washington DC, located in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters building, is dedicated to another fine master craft: bold American food. Much more than a steakhouse, the timelessly stylish restaurant moves the political power meetings out of the back room and into private dining spaces, sleek enclaves of dark wood. Charlie Palmer Steak - DC Ratings and Reviews
Usually dinner is very good - but lunch was not. the service was slow and the waiter disappeared. It took forever to get a response. Additionally, I think the chefs put truffle oil or something in the burger meat - I have had this happen a couple of times before at other establishments. I wish you all would notify people before hand before seasoning meat with something or provide options to have it with or without.
We arrived at 7:20 and or food was served at 8:45. We selected a Malbec wine and they were out of all 3'on the menu. My steak was raw instead of MR and my husbands was MR instead of Medium. The asprugus was tough and stringy. We complained and the floor manage apologized. We have eaten at CP many times but never will again!
Ok for a decent steak in a noisy space with inexperienced wait staff—if you like your steak served with an ice cold steak sauce in a silver ramekin. Duck breast was tough and dry, accompanied by large ribbons of carrot—served ice cold, a combination that does not work! Waiter described amuse bouche in a mumble of words he did not understand, and neither did we. Questions were met with blank stares and a quick retreat to the kitchen. First and last visit. Perhaps it was just an OFF night?
Took my fiance for our last date night before we get married (four more days!). House gave us each a complimentary glass of bubbly for the occasion. Service was excellent.
We shared an enormous steak, which was delicious, but the twice-baked potato stole the show. If you go, order that. Period. It's the single best food I've ever eaten.
On our last evening in Washington before heading home to South Africa, we had an incredible meal at Charlie Palmer. From the moment we were received by the Hostess we had a wonderful experience.
The food was of excellent quality, well prepared and beautifully presented. The service was efficient and attentive and the wine list extensive and well structured.
The desert was heavenly. We will surely recommend Charlie Palmer!
The four of us who dined here were all quite disappointed with our experience.
The food - the steak we had was cooked three different temperatures throughout the cut, the lobster bisque should have been called lobster broth, and the appetizers (Tuna Tartare and Burrata) were nothing special.
The service - Since two of us were having complete meals, while the other two were doing appetizers, it was decided that they'd have one appetizer for starter, and the other for entree so they could eat along with us. The server obviously didn't hear that because both of their appetizers were delivered with our soup. Then, when the rest of the food was taking an extremely long time to come from the kitchen, the server kept telling us that "it's coming soon." It was only after I openly inquired if I needed to call a manager that our food suddenly appeared. All this time, our friends had their second appetizer get warm because they wanted to wait until our meal arrived.
The value - absolutely none. The obscenely priced wine list was just that; obscene. The food was no better than a chain restaurant steakhouse, and the ambivalent service was off-putting.
At $400 + for our meal (including gratuity), there was virtually nothing redeeming about the experience. I find it both surprising and disappointing that Charlie Palmer is the namesake because I expected more from a "celebrity" chef. I guess I now know why the restaurant was not even 1/2 full at 8 p.m. on a Friday night.
Perfect restaurant to finish off a vacation visit to our Capitol. Got to see The Donald Trump and Kelly Conway in the same day, outstanding! Only downside to our trip was having to be on the same flight from LAX to Ronny Reagan airport with Maxine Waters...no need to say anything else on that matter.
When I visit DC in the future, Charlie Palmers will definitely be on the itinerary. Great food, great service and a window seat to hustle-bustle of downtown DC.
Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by an amazing Mac and Cheese side plate.
Thank you Charlie!
Service was slow from the start. They brought menus and no wine list. I asked for a wine list...10 minutes later the waiter came back with no wine list. Shrimp cocktail sauce was basically ketchup. My steak was rare and I ordered medium. For the price, much better food and service is expected.
Charlie Palmer is not just your typical DC steakhouse. It offers a variety of appetizers and entrees that you don't typically see on a steakhouse menu. Loved the sweet potato soup with madras curry and cilantro for example! Also enjoyed duck breast with a ginger carrot puree. If you want a steakhouse with panache and a great view of the capitol, this is your spot!
Hanger Steak was under cooked after it had been ordered medium well. Short rib needed to be cooked a lot longer as that is the nature of short ribs - it was very fatty and tough but a longer braise would have solved both these problems. Dessert was great, as we're the bread selections and the truffled gnocchi (although I didn't really taste any truffle). Thai red curry soup was wonderful. Pad Thai noodle base under the short rib was very good. Very attentive service.
We had the Chef's tasting menu and the entire meal was delightful. The first course was a chilled salty oyster with a small scoop of champagne sorbet and a few pearls of caviar. Each course that followed was carefully prepared and plated. Especially noteworthy was the pasta course--cappelletti stuffed with mushroom and truffles, served in a clear broth. The broth was fragrant and soft, complementing the earthy cappelletti perfectly. Other courses included halibut with root vegetables, roasted chicken, and a bit of sliced strip steak. Desert was apple cake, poached apples and ginger ice cream. Accompanying each course was a well-chosen wine. None of the courses were large and the overall effect was wonderful. We left the restaurant with a nice glow....
The food was delicious. Although would skip the Mac & Cheese side dish - does not compare to other steakhouses that serve Mac & Cheese. The dining room is very attractive and loved the round tables for groups - hard to find rounds at restaurants! But, the service was not good - in particular, our main waiter ignored the table alot and when one steak had to go back for more doneness (all others cooked perfectly) - he seemed to forget about it and we had to wave down a waiter to retrieve it from the kitchen. Also, he was slow to pour our wine - we had to ask for the white bottle a few times and pour our own red. The supporting waitstaff was very good but the lack of attentiveness took away from the otherwise good experience.
We enjoyed a fabulous birthday dinner with friends and family! As always, impeccable service and dinner was amazing!!! Simply hard to beat when you expect and enjoy the ultimate dining experience! Being able to bring in our own wines on Friday evenings is also a nice option! However, Charlie Palmer's wine selection is exceptional as far as California wines go!!
