Head Bartender Lamar not only prepares amazing cocktails, but also delivers them with style and pleasant conversation. We appreciated his professional service. We are glad we dined at the bar and had the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic food and beverages.
Excellent as usual
What I like about CPs versus the many other DC steakhouses is that it's open and light. Most steak places are dark and this place is the antithesis. I chose CPs for this dinner meeting because we needed a quite place to discuss some business priorities. We have great food and service, were able to talk business, and not feel like we were in an underground bunker. That's a win!

My husband and I dined at CP to celebrate my birthday while visiting DC. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like stars. The service was so amazing. The food; Started we oysters, that were VERY FRESH. For my main course I got the A5 Waygu which melted in my mouth, so delicious. And ended with a great birthday surprise dessert from the staff. Easily one of my favorite meals. Thank you so much for such a great experience on my special day ❤️❤️❤️
Our server was a bit overwhelmed and was not fully listening taking our orders. Once meal was not correct and we had to wait for my client to get the correct meal. The service was OK at best and seemed to lag a bit for everything we needed. If my table did not follow up on a request we would not have gotten our needs handled. I have been here a few times as I entertain a lot of clients weekly. The food this time was OK, nothing to remember.
The staff and food was great. The staff helped us celebrate our anniversary with champagne and a special dessert.
Great Capitol Hill restaurant. Food was delicious. Grilled octopus appetizer was easily shared by two with large tasty portions. Tuna tartare was fresh and flavorful, again, large portions easily shared.
Filet was so good, melted in my mouth. They treated us to a cheesecake dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Very nice. One last bonus...Free corkage of your wine! Wine steward/sommelier could be a little more personable, a little dry.
Overall a place I would return.
My wife and I were entertaining out-of-town guests. We had a great experience. Micheal was an outstanding maitre de and a gracious host.
Had an amazing dining experience at Charlie Palmer in Washington DC. The staff and food was awesome. The manager Mr Michael Irving handled our every request. I will definitely recommend Charlie Palmer Restaurant to my friends and family.
We have eaten here quite a few times over the years and were not always very happy with the food. We like to take out of town guests because of the location and possible tour of the rooftop. This time we were pleasantly surprised. The steak was superb (perfectly cooked and delicious filets) and service was good. Sides were mixed — very good mushrooms and fresh veggies and excellent fries. Mashed potatoes and creamed spinach got a “so so” from our group. Wine selection was very good. If you haven’t been there in a while, I recommend you give it another try. Ps. In regard to service, our waiter was a very pleasant guy, but one suggestion is not to make unrequested recommendations as soon as the table is ready to order of the 2 most expensive items on the menu — raw bar tower and porterhouse for 2, and then proceed to explain what a porterhouse steak is. You should assume that most folks eating at a steakhouse in DC are aware of their meat cuts and don’t need or want unsolicited suggestions. Also, the wine was not poured after the first glass, which I noticed but wasn’t a big deal. Otherwise, great meal.
The ambiance was nice, the food was excellent, and the service was outstanding.

One of my favorites restaurant of all time! You won’t be disappointed’
The food was pedestrian. Did not stand out in any respect. And the service was mediocre at best. The server was as good as someone taking your order at a McDonalds. Just showed up, asked what we wanted, and then pretty much disappeared. The food took a long time to reach the table — at least 30 minutes. The ambiance was lifeless — not a surprise that the place wa half empty. In all I would never return to this mediocre steak house. Not worth the time or the money.
The hostess and servers were fabulous. It did take the food a little long to come out. We were celebrating a birthday and brought our own cake. They served it with candles and cut it without a fee.

Last night was our first visit to Charlie Palmer, and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. The service was excellent - we were greeted promptly and everyone was extremely friendly. We started with the chilled seafood sampler, and it was perfection. The crab and lobster was delicious. We both got the filet mignon, which they were able to make petite for us. It was cooked perfectly. We ended with baked Alaska, creme brulee, and the gelato sampler. GET THE BAKED ALASKA. Great presentation and taste. Overall, the service was superb, and you could tell that the wait staff and floor manager really cared about our experience. We will absolutely be back.

Came here for summer restaurant week and I must say the establishment did not exceed my expectations. The tomato basil gazpacho was more sauce than gazpacho and turned salty tasting towards the end. Unfortunately, my short ribs was tough, dry and not as flavorful as I would hope. The plate coated in a raspberry sauce that did not blend well with the already sweet sauce the ribs were cooked in. I wish there was more of the sauce for the ribs because it was so dry, and difficult to cut with the very dull knife I was given. Why do I even need to be cutting short ribs, they should fall apart with my fork alone. Also, plating wise, there was nothing else on the plate but some mashed potatoes under it, very underwhelming. As for my friend's dry aged steak, also disappointing in that the steak was not cooked medium-rare as requested. It was definitely on the medium-well side and not juicy at all, but why send back a perfectly good steak. So he ate it. It was simply seasoned and well grilled, I'll give it that. Also not a fan of being served tepid water, warmer than room temp on a 95 degree day. I have not been wowed into coming back here for a full-priced meal.
Our first time to eat at Charlie Palmer's and we look forward to going back. Family was in town and it was Restaurant Week, so we decided to try CP. We certainly were not disappointed! The General Manager, Michael Irving, was so welcoming and even took us up to the Roof Top so that we could see the great views. The entire wait staff was polite and professional and our server, David (I think that was his name) was very helpful. Our food was delicious and attractively presented. The servings, even though it was a 3 course set price, were just the right size! What a gem this DC restaurant is!
I’ve been to Charlie Palmer before for dinner but never for lunch. It was a great choice and we thoroughly enjoyed it. RW made it even more sweet and didn’t disappoint. Thank you.
Our dinner at Charlie Palmer was excellent! The Wagyu steak was amazing, and their special twist on au-gratin potatoes was outstanding. Oh, and the corn/crab bisque was mouth watering in both presentation and taste. In addition, Mike, the manager, was charming and courteous, taking us for a tour of the restaurant and deck. He made us feel personally cared for and welcomed. We have added Charlie Palmer Steakhouse DC to our list of excellent US steakhouses to revisit!
The service and food was amazing. Lamar the bartender was great and he made the best drinks. They even threw in a complimentary glass of champagne!! We were celebrating our anniversary and they made it very special. We enjoyed shrimp scampi, the porterhouse for two, with twice back potatoes. Again, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening. The view from the roof is also amazing and would make a perfect spot for a wedding reception. Again, everything was outstanding and I can’t wait to celebrate another occasion. We may just make it our anniversary spot every year.
Get meal rounded off by a guided tour to the observation deck of the building by Michael, the restaurant manager. Could not have asked for more!
The food and service were excellent. We came in from out of town, and we not sure what to expect. The restaurant exceeded our expectations and made for great experience.
Wasn’t asked if wanted a cocktail but other table was; same server. Asked for wine to be decanted and didn’t. Other than those two minor things we loved the food and service.
Great place for a birthday; Compton seafood platter and desert. Recommend it.

We loved the food, but the waiter was a bit off putting. Hostess was kind and courteous when seating us to our table. Restrooms were a bit odd with peepholes into the opposite genders restroom; additionally I was momentarily stuck in a stall due to the sticky locks.
We would come back for the food, but not necessarily for the service.
The service was amazing. The food was amazing. Our waiter was amazing, hands on and very knowledgeable of the menu and drinks.
This was our first visit to this restaurant and we were blown away. The restaurant is beautiful. The atmosphere is romantic, especially if you sit by the pool. The service was very professional, nice and accommodating. The food was outstanding - all of it, from bread, appetizer, soup, steak and dessert. We will definitely be back. We were celebrating our anniversary and received a complimentary dessert. The cherry on the cake!
Start to end we were treated with respect and professionalism. Given the rooftop tour at the exact moment the Capital building was lit like gold from the setting sun. Gorgeous. Bobby and his wait staff were always there but not always over bearing. George our guide and Maitre D welcomed us and handled our needs at all times. Delicious flavor on the Hanger steak and the filet was just as delicious. Thanks CP!
The head chef and bartender accommodated us when we arrived before the dining room opened. Also, the head chef gave my family and I a tour of the restaurants rooftop dining area with views of the Capitol and Thd Mall. Awesome good. Immaculate customer service. Highly recommend!

This was our first time here at CP in DC, from the start to the finish this was one of the best dining experience ever. Can not say more about the staff and the great level of service we received. special thank you to Michael, George and of course Sarah for making this night possible.
My husband and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary with Charlie Palmers, before heading to see Hamilton at the Kennedy Center that evening. The staff were very attentive and made us feel exceptionally special with complimentary champagne and dessert. The dessert appropriately stating, "Happy Anniversary!" on the large platter on which it was delivered. We will be returning again when we are back in our nations capital.
Good service but steak was not spectacular
We had such a special time at Charlie Palmer's. Our server David found out that it was a special occasion for us (delayed honeymoon/anniversary) and pulled out all the stops. We got to go up on the rooftop and experience one of the best views in the city for our first night in DC. The food was fantastic. I would go as far to say that it was the best meal I have ever had. The appetizers were delicious (enjoyed the salmon tartare). My husband and I enjoyed a petite sirloin and a cowboy cut ribeye, both perfectly cooked, with a side of the potatoes and mushrooms. Everything was delicious and we will definitely be returning.
