Charlie Palmer Steak - DC Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I ate dinner at Charlie Palmer Steak House during Washington D.C's Restaurant Week. While I have the pleasure of dining at most of the finest establishments in the D.C. Region; I had never been to Charlie Palmer's. The highlights: the world class service, the excellent wines (by the glass...Chardonnay, Sauvigon Blanc and a superior Cabernet --Ramey), great salad topped with octopus, excellent Butternut Soup, and an unusually fine dessert---cheesecake with apple compote. The concerns: the bread was just normal; in fact the olive bread was stale, the main course was roast sirloin (which is strikingly similar to Steamship Beef/London Broil). Underwhelming for a restaurant of this class. The table had a draft. Good meal not great...
I have dinner at Charlie Palmer 3 to 4 times a year and the service has slipped as of late. The waiter we had last weekend delivered the wrong side dish and was hurried and nervous.Service was too slow as well. However, the ambience and quality of the food was outstanding.
Very Special treatment. We have been there before and had another great experience. This time we had a food complaint and it was taken care of immediately. We have been to many of the steak houses in DC and Charlie Palmers is a special place. Looking forward to our next visit.
We had a dinner for my son's 21st birthday. The restaurant was not too crowed on Thursday and our service was execellent. My son had a seasonal soup- cream of cauliflower and rutabega with braised rabbit. We all had steaks- two petite filets and two "cowboy" bone in ribeyes. All cooked perfectly. For sides we had hen of the woods mushrooms, grilled asparagus and home fries. All top-notch. Very good wine selection and great view across from the capital made for a fantastic evening.
The service was really outstanding. I had mentioned it was my anniversary to one of the individuals waiting on me, and without asking for anything special I received a small dish made by the chef and a candle in my dessert. Not a huge deal or anything extravegant but it showed they were at least paying attention to what I was saying and went out of their way to make my girlfriend and my experience special and memorable. The food was very good esp. the short rib ravioli! Def recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a nice dinner with someone special.
My fiance and I decided to try Charlie Palmer's for New Year's Eve. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar. After a drink, they were able to sit us early and we had an incredible view of the U.S. Capitol building. The wait staff was extremely attentive and it seemed like there was a team that was determined to ensure we had a pleasant experience. Last but not least, the food was some of the best we have ever eaten. I ordered the NY Strip and my fiance ordered the petite filet with the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. To top it all off, they gave us free desserts.
Had the prix fixe menu at lunch. The butternut squash soup was incredibly good, the steak was done to perfection, and the cheesecake spot on. My wife had the grilled chicken paillard and loved it as well. The service was very attentive but not intrusive and we had a table by the window with a great view of the Capitol building.
My party of two dined for lunch during the holiday slow period, although I have also dined here during busy periods as well. Both the food and service were right on point. All of the servers were gracious and provided the proper balance of service and privacy. I had the wild bass while by friend had the 16 oz steak; both were absolutely delicious. Our waiter recommended two great wines to complement our meals. This place does not disappoint.
I love Charlie Palmers, I have never had a bad meal there. The wait staff could not be better you always feel appreciated and taken care of. The prefixed lunch menu is awesome...I will never stop going to this restaurant. The Butternut squash soup is to die for.
The service was one of the best I've experienced. The waiter noticed that my wife was wearing black and our waiter asked if my wife if she would like to have a white or a black napkin. The food was just amazing, it might have been the best steak I have ever had. The wine list was very extensive. Desserts were very good as well. I wish there was a Charlie Palmers in Northern California.
Charlie Palmer is a great place to have lunch when working on the Hill, in particular the Senate side of the House. My collegue and I had the three course, fixed price menu. The salad and beef were excellent. However, the dessert (cheesecake) was a big disappointment. The cheesecake really was something out of the freezer and would have been better had it been Hagen Daz or similar. Also, the restaurant tries to make up for the reasonable price by over charging for coffee and other add ons. Lastly, there was no staff handling check-ins when we were there which meant there were a lot of confused diners not knowing what to do with their coats or how to get seated.
Food was excellent -- each bite was a wodnerful delight!
Service -- Wait staff had an air of being condescending. I have eaten there in several instances with business associates, but now in celebrating an important family event on my own expense was made to feel like I didn’t belong. It dampened the pleasure of the evening.
The food was not as good as I expected for an upscale restaurant. Limited options of appetizers. Most dishes had bacon in them. The steak was an average steak that you would get in a much cheaper place. Nevertheless, the service and the view were outstanding.
My wife and I had a wonderful time from the moment we stepped into the restaurant until the time we left. The staff treated us like honored guest. When they saw we were not overly happy with our table, they told us another table would be ready shortly and we could stay at this one unitl it was ready. The table service, from food to wine, was excellent. The menu and wine list was excellent. All in all a very wonderful experience. We certainly will return.
The service was exquisite. The meal was fabulous. When we ordered our appetizers, the waiter offered us the tuna tartare which was not on the menu and it was amazing. The steaks were perfection. And the bernaise sauce on our asparagus...I wanted to lick the serving vessel! Being able to bring two bottles of domestic is the best. What made the evening so special...the Assistant GM came by and offered to take us to the roof deck. He retrieved our coats and whisked us to to the roof, we could practically touch the Capitol Building. We go every year and we love it! We will continue to go back!
Very impressed with the dining experience. The all encompassing price fix lunch menu with your choice of soup/salad, entrée, and dessert was a pleasant surprise. The service was the best I have had in DC. Paying attention to every detail was a bevy of hosts and hostesses with an unyielding passion to make sure the customer was pleased. From a bottomless basket of gourmet bread to drinks that are [seemingly] refreshed after every sip . . . the service was benchmark. Lunch for four, without alcohol and tip was $128
I've been to Charlie Palmers many times and I always think the food is amazing. I decided to bring my boyfriend here, instead of BLT or Ruth Chris to try a great steak because he had never been to a steakhouse. However, this being the most recent visit the service wasn't as exceptional as in the past. They didn't not offer the amuse bouche. The steak was a little tough and not as "melt-in-your-mouth" as I always would brag to my friends. Also they didn't end the service with the plate of nuts and candies as they typically had in my past. I guess the recession is hitting everyone pretty hard, yet the prices are still the same (lol). Oh well... I still like Charlie's but I would be more inclined to try other places first now instead.
Excellent view although not well marked so you can drive right past it very easily. Food was excellent, steaks were great! Service was relaxed yet readily available. It was a quiet night apparently due to Congress not being in session so slower than normal. Would definitely recommend. Prices as expected in an upscale DC restaurant. For the two of us we spent a buck and a half, steaks, wine, dessert.
Normally the service and food are both top notch. Unfortunately this time that neither the food nor the service were up to their usual standard. The main complaing about the food is that it wasn't quite hot enough. The service was not very good. The waiter was not very attentive and while all other patrons in the restaurant received an amuse bouche we did not. The price of drinks seemed to be made up as they went along. The same dring was $9 before dinner at the bar, $10 at the dinner table, and $8 after dinner at the bar.
