About Charlie Palmer Steak - DC
Charlie Palmer Steak Washington DC, located in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters building, is dedicated to another fine master craft: bold American food. Under the direction of Executive Chef Mike Ellis, the menu not only stars the best American artisan beef cuts like an aged Angus Rib-eye "Cowboy" Steak but updated locally sourced seafood combinations, like Chesapeake Bay Oysters and Soft Shell Crab Fritto Misto.
Much more than a steakhouse, the timelessly stylish restaurant moves the political power meetings out of the back room and into private dining spaces, sleek enclaves of dark wood. Located off the wide, open expanse of the National Mall, Charlie Palmer’s Steak’s rooftop terrace can accommodate 400 guests, offering the city’s most impressive view of the Capitol.

Charlie Palmer Steak - DC Ratings and Reviews
Pretentious noisy place with bad service, mediocre food - even and especially the steak - and watered down drinks at astronomical prices. This was easily the worst dinner I had in DC by far dring my week there on business - and that's saying a lot bc DC is decidedly not a foodie city by any measure. In any other major city this place wouldn't last a month. Do yourself a big favor and dine elsewhere.
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner. Very pleased with the food, we ordered oysters, steaks, asparagus and mashed potatoes and all were very good. The steaks were good size, but not huge we both finished them. The kitchen also brought out complimentary bread, a small bite of prosciutto wrapped mandarin with artichoke and brought out a complimentary cheesecake birthday dessert that was delicious! Service was a little slow, but I appreciated that they weren't rushing, however a few times we sat awhile wondering where our waiter was. Overall great experience.
Disappointed with most recent visit to celebrate a birthday. Waitress was unaware of pre-fixed menus and had to call for help. Food was average at best. My strip steak was 30% grissle and fat. Only a couple wines are under $50, which is excessive. Server rarely checked to see if things were ok. Maybe Charlie Palmer is spread too thin across his empire.
I decided to go back to Charlie Palmer, and frankly, was disappointed.
After coming in, we waited (too long) for a waiter.
The food was OK, but not brilliant.
The foie gras is something I flat out don't recommend.
Steak was OK.
Given all, I probably won't do it again, at least not anytime soon.
This is one of my favorite dining restaurants so I decided to take my boyfriend there for his 55th birthday. He had never been and boy did the Management, Staff and Chef create THE BEST dining experience for both he and I. He was just blown away by the food, cocktails, views and staff! I'd really like to thank Manager Mike for the roof top tour and ALL he did to create this wonderful experience. Redman and I look forward to our next visit at this great DC gem.
This restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the food is amazing! It is a little pricey, but if you have a day to splurge you'll want to try it. The steaks are perfect though the menu has a wide variety of options. Their wine list is world round, something for every pallet.
Frankly I was disappointed--I had wanted to come here for some time--my mistake was ordering gnocchi because your version was thick and gave me a gag reflex--I ate as much as I could to be polite--and the drink was so-so--maestros and mortons serve much much better drinks. Sorry, I doubt that I'll return.
Incredibly good steak. Vegetables were also quite good. One person in our party had the caesar salad - I envied him and will order that next time. BYOB if it's an American wine, with no corkage fee, is a very nice touch. Service was very good but not outstanding, largely because they were quote busy. Beautiful views. Highly recommended.
The service was terrible and we were ignored to the point of my mother having to yell to one of our wait staff to ask for dessert menus. There were 6 of us, so we shouldn't have been invisible., plus our bill was over $500. Also the place was extremely noisy. The only good thing about this place was the food. I would not recommend this place for a romantic, quiet place. Look elsewhere.
The food at Charlie Parker was great. The service, though, left something to be desired. Our server said he was very busy and proceeded to nearly ignore us. There were empty tables around us but they have been extra busy for a reason we could not see. It was on a Saturday night.
Charlie Palmer never disappoints. It is consistent, always very, very good, and a dining room where you can have a business discussion without fear of being overheard. That alone makes it unique in DC, and especially on Capitol Hill. While the food is not particularly exciting, it is always excellent quality, well prepared, and reliable. The service is discreet but mindful. In this case, I had two guests from Salt Lake, one of whom had been to Charlie Palmer's before. He specifically requested that we go there so that we could have a "great meal and a conversation where we can hear." Charlie Palmer came through on both requests.
This is obviously a landmark restaurant in DC and it's very good for people-watching but understand that there's a price for that and this place is expensive in all the ways that can catch you off-guard: super expensive appetizers, coffee and even iced tea.
Food was good. Service e started out well but dropped off as the meal
Progressed. Bisque was cold. Burrata delicious. The main course was excellent. The steaks perfect. The hanger steak definitely something to try. We had the potatoes au gratin and the asparagus for sides. The asparagus was cold. As well as the cobbler. At first I thought it might be that the food sat too long before being brought out however the ice cream did not melt on the cobbler so I believe it was more that the dessert wasn't thoroughly heated. I guess for a high end fine dining experience I expected more. Final notes. The bathroom appeared clean because of the lighting wasn't really. And there was a couple Tha brought thier toddler into the restaurant for dinner. I understand that however the childed screamed throughout dinner and they let the little guy run through the restaurant banging on the furniture. I thought it was rude. Bottom line while the food was good there are too many choices for me to return to this restaurant.
This was our first time going to Charlie Palmers, and we were both highly impressed and satisfied with our choices.... I had the Rib eye, my friend had the hangar steak, both masterfully cooked to perfection, the aged steaks were very flavorful and tasty.. a side of asparagus served with the ends peeled, so it was all edible without a hard stringy end, the dessert was simply amazing, imagine three different flavors of creme brûlée, orange cinnamon and vanilla, and my friend had apple cobbler that would have served two or three of us.. absolute perfection served by a well-trained caring wait staff.. five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❗️
We are visitors to D.C. And having dinner with our son who lives there. There are a few excellent steak houses that are chains but Charlie Palmer has an unbeatable location. We ate by the window in view of the lit up dome of the capitol. Stunning. Ambience and decor is modern and fresh. Bright and Airy. Coming from denver where we have some very excellent independent steak houses I think the food at Charlie Palmer falls a touch short of those. But compared with the national chains I think this food is better. Having said that the locale makes this a not to miss if you're looking for steak in DC.
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious tasting menu with wine pairing. Several dishes were brought out by chef Mike Ellis who explained the wonderful sauces and techniques. Our server Ossaline was so knowledgeable and everyone was friendly and relaxed. We were there 2-1/2 hours and enjoyed each course immensely. Can't wait to get back!
