Charlie Palmer Steak - DC Ratings and Reviews
A truly awesome restaurant, fully lives up to its reputation. The steaks are mouth-watering, the service and hospitality were top-shelf indeed as we were attended to by Gustavo who really made our anniversary quite special (thanx Gustavo!) A very special "Thank You" to Tracy, Catering Director, who allowed my Beautiful and I to get an extra-special memento. We will be back. Believe me, Charlie Palmer Steak is not to be missed...Treat youself!
Very disappointing. Friends in from out of town and they really wanted to go to Charlie Palmer. Nothing was particularly special. Brought me the wrong entrée and then took 20+ minutes to bring the correct one. When it came it was definitely not worth the wait. Many other steak houses in DC with better meat, service, ambiance . . .
Five of the six meals ordered were wrong. Because it was a business meal and time was short we chose not to say anything but we were seriously dissappointed that the steaks werent cooked properly or maybe they were delivered to the wrong person. Two in my party asked for their chicken sandwich to be delivered without bun, but this was ignored. One asked for the addition of avocado and both got this. Three simple requests, meat prepared to order, no bun and add avocado; five disappointed diners. I eat and even organize events here because its close to the hill but will consider other locations in the future.
Five of us spent a wonderful evening at Charlie Palmer to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. He was visiting from Australia and thanks to the outstanding service we received from David P. our evening with you was the highlight of his visit. The halibut was amazing (you don't have to be a steak eater to have an incredible meal at CP.) David was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent advice. He treated my father with such genuine respect and kindness, I was really touched. Everyone in the group found him professional, attentive and fun. Highly recommend Friday nights at Charlie Palmer. Thanks again.
We love a good steakhouse and this was recommended by a friend. We had been traveling all day so was looking for something special yet low-key. Typical of most steakhouses, you pay for a great meal. The steaks we ordered were absolutely delicious but a tad bit on the small side. The mushrooms and cream spinach were nice complements to the meal. They have an extensive wine list but also expensive. I get it, you have guests willing to pay hundreds for a bottle of wine but the least expensive wine on the list was $48. I always appreciate when they have at least a few choices in the $30-$50 range - just my opinion.Very nice atmosphere. Service was courteous and attentive.
Wife and I celebrated our anniversary at this amazing restaurant. Beautiful space, warm ambiance, great wine, Delicious food, and TOP notch service. After taking care of us throughout an amazing meal we were taken to the rooftop to take in the best view of the capital building I have ever seen. Dessert was taken off of the check, and we were given complimentary champagne. Not waiting for next anniversary to come back. Will be back when parents come to town next week..
The restaurant was very nice, service was impeccable, drinks, appetizers, deserts were all very good. My wife ordered the Rib Eye, bone in and I ordered the 21 day aged bone in New York Strip. Neither of us was very impressed with the steaks, not the quality of the meat or flavor we expected from this restaurant, nor at a price of basically $50 a steak. My NY strip had a good flavor when I could get through the fat and grizzle, which seemed to make up the majority of the steak.
My grandson and I ate at Charlie Palmer's on our last evening in D.C. We're steak lovers and wanted a memorable meal to celebrate our visit. The experience was amazing. Our waiter, Gustavo, was charming and attentive. He was respectful of my 12 year old, treating him as he would an adult diner. Our steaks, his rib eye and my fillet, were done perfectly, tender and juicy. The sides were tasty, as well. Portions were large enough for the heartiest appetite. Charlie Palmer's exceeded our expectations, making it an evening we will remember.
I came here to celebrate my bachelorette dinner and this was by far the best dining experience I ever had in my 33 years of life! The service was excellent and very attentive for my party of 7. Our reservations were for 5:30 and was a real dining experience. We left around 9PM and didn't feel anyone rushing us out of here at all. They were very kind, respectful and even the Chef came out to ask us how our experience was. I got the strawberry Decision cocktail which was delish if you like tequila. The champagne we had was crisp, clean and nice light taste! The salmon poke bite was very tasty and had a good asian flair to it because of the sesame oil. They truly treated us like royalty by starting out with the Shellfish Platter with the freshest seafood I ever had. They oysters had a true clean seafood taste. The meat on the lobster & shrimp was generous and crabmeat was perfection. I ordered my steak (filet mignon) medium rare and was cooked on point and the mac and cheese was sinfully good. The cappuccino was a great finish to my decadent meal and dessert of a peanut butter terrine. I will definitely come back many times over. It is a special occasions kind of place because of the price point but well worth the money! Thank you again for everything!
The Food was great! However the front desk service is not welcoming or greet a customer. As we enter the restaurant there were 3 people at the receptionist but none of them make eye contact with us or ask if we have a reservation, because they were too busy chatting with another customer. We literally have to grab their attention.
When we left there is not "eye hi , good bye" policy or " thank you and have a wonderful night" etc....
For a big name restaurant like that they need to practice more on the " eye hi, good bye" policy.
Over all food was good and waiter are very attentive.
Chose CP to introduce friends to a lovely restaurant during Restaurant Week. Early dinner reservation. We, a group of four women, were first to be seated at 5:30 PM. I asked for one of 5 or 6 window seats (all empty). Leah (one of the managers) immediately responded that all were reserved. My friends and I were seated next to service work area (credit to servers who used this quietly and with minimal intrusion). Service by wait staff was excellent. Food was ok... pork was tough and portions on small side. At 7:30 pm, two of the window tables were still empty, and the others were filled with all male groups (at one table, three men were seated for over an hour before two other men joined them). At end of evening my friends and I spoke to two managers (male and then Leah) to let them know we were very unhappy about placement. We explained our early arrival, empty restaurant, request for window table for lighting. We expressed our displeasure as there were still empty window tables at 7:30. The male manager listened, apologized for any oversight, but held to practice of reserving these tables for parties of 5+. Later, Leah approached our table to inquire about dinner. We expressed our displeasure to her and her refusal to seat us, given the remaining empty window tables. She could not have been more dis-interested. She, too, repeated the policy of reserving these for parties of 5+ and thanked us for dining at CP's. We left with deep feeling of sense of having been treated as second class citizens. During the evening we saw a second table of two women.... not given a nicer table as male/female couple. Shame on CP. None of us will return to the restaurant.
Enjoyed the Restaurant week three course lunch. Started with the gazpacho with watermelon sorbet, it was a great summer starter. The short rib main course was outstanding and the chocolate dessert with salted caramel ice cream was a nice end to an enjoyable lunch. They were quite busy for lunch and you need to allow sufficient time for them to prepare your meal.
Charlie Palmer's is one of those beautiful restaurants I would never be able to eat at any other time than Restaurant Week, making it the perfect place to go for lunch during Restaurant Week! Our food was amazing. If I had paid full price for it, I still would have been happy. The dessert in particular was exceptional. Generous portion sizes and deliciously cooked.
We had a very nice steak dinner, but for the price there are better steaks around town. What really made the night special was the exceptional waiter we had that went above and beyond in complimentary extras, attentive service, and an offer to head up to their rooftop property after dinner for one of the best views of the Capitol building and mall that we'd ever seen.
Charlie Palmer is on our go to list. The food never disappoints and on this evening we enjoyed one of their special food and wining pairing diners. All 4 of us agreed the meal and pairings were outstanding. Can't say enough about their consistent quality and service. And looking out the window at the US Capitol isn't bad either.
This place is amazing! I'm not sure where to begin - the ambiance, the food, and the service were all 5 star. Our server was especially attentive and I thought it was a nice touch that the manager George stopped by to assure we were enjoying ourselves - he was very hospitable. With service like this and delicious food, we'll definitely be back!!!!
Service was not good. Once seated it was 10 minutes before anyone came to see us and to get us beverages. The same through the 2 hours there. I ordered the bone in ribeye. When it was served no one came to see if it was cooked properly. I was disappointed in the steak, not much flavor and was a little tuff. I wasn't going to leave a tip, but my wife insisted that we did and I did write a note on the receipt.
Charlie Palmer was an amazing experience all around. The food was superb, the atmosphere personal and comfortable. The level of professionalism from the waiters and watrisses was like nothing I've ever seen. They were truly master's of their profession and made the meal all the more enjoyable.
Returned here after a few years, always prefer CPS over other high-end chains (Morton's, Capital Grille, Ocean Prime, Joe's Stone Crab) when I'm in DC. The standout was the bartenders' customer service, who managed drinks for two large parties while serving us while we waited for our reservation with good conversation. I'll be back here again!
I met my sister and her SO for lunch and to catch up. I showed her a picture on my phone of an appetizer I had ordered at dinner several weeks ago, but was no longer on the (ever changing) menu. She thought it looked great. The server, seeing what we were doing, said that he could ask the chef if he could make it for her. The answer came back yes, so we ordered it. Talk about going above and beyond. I always get the steaks here, but there are lots of other things to eat, and they are always well prepared, beautifully plated, and the service is discrete, efficient, and friendly.
Super evening and super steaks. This was a reunion dinner for an old friend and his family from Europe. I wanted him to have a "real American steak dinner" in a great DC location. CPS really fit the bill - superb beef, superb oysters, great wine, great service. Just a lovely evening all around.
Between the lack of service and awful food i was extremely disappointed. When I expressed the displeasure, there was nothing done or addressed.
The tenderloin on my salad was dry and over cooked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour - sent it back and it came back freshly cooked this time, but still not excellent. The other item that was ordered was a burger and it was dry and burnt.
Now the service was attentive in the beginning, but as soon as our food arrived there was no follow up, we had to hail someone down for anything even for additional beverages.
Needless to say, I highly doubt that I will return to a Charlie Palmers again.
