So the three girls that are hosts really need to do a better job. The restaurant is completely empty or not as full, and plenty of good tables - and if they seat you against the wall - adjacent to the bar - it’s really noisy and they are trying to hide you. Then, if you ask for better seating, they’ll take you to a kid’s table - tiny - where all the waiters and walking through- no privacy or quiet conversation. I got a headache with so many people rushing past me. Had to ask twice for better seating! Ate here before; very respectful and good experience the first couple of time - came back with my wife. This place is trying to showcase - like NYC - but this ain’t a high end NYC - Restaurant. I average about $450 to $500 on a night out with my wife (special occasion: like valentine’s). The valentine’s meal was excellent. The chef - really personable and exceptional. And I have been to the very best places, globally and this place could be a very high end. I’m getting to the point again, chef is great, The servers are above average and even the manager recitifes an error. If Charlie, the owner is reading this post, your host girls need to wake up and treat all patrons with dignity and respect. First impressions is everything. They look cheap and fake. Many patrons will not come back - unless that is your intention of asking people not to come back. There are plenty of exceptional places in DC. The second table I rejected, an old lovey African American couple was seated, there. They looked distinguished, and the lady in her 60s, she was very dissatisfied with where they were seated. They asked to be moved. They moved them to the next table over. Need I say more?

Food was so-so. First item was burned and had an unusual taste. Second choice took forever to get. The service was nearly non-existent. Could never find the server to get sweetener or bread or a clean fork... etc. One visit was enough. I'll do Capitol Grille the next time.

The steaks were exceptional, all 4 of us ordered the Filet- they were cooked to our specifications, we were all very pleased.
The Service was great. We never felt rushed and our waiter was attentive. This restaurant has become a favorite, we dine here each time we are in DC and we have never been disappointed!!

Beautiful views of the Capitol, Great steak, one pasta dish was over cooked and they happily refunded the cost, good wine and excellent service. Would definitely go back.

This was our second time at Charlie Palmers. The first was lunch years ago. The one issue I noticed is that parking is either sparse or well hidden. The curb opposite the restaurant is filled with permit only spots. There were 8 spots in front of the restaurant and another 8 behind it. We were lucky enough to get one behind it. Our reservation was through OpenTable and we were promptly seated. We are used to having a number of servers with specific duties, but it was confusing because two of them seemed to be the main waiter. On to the food: my wife ordered the green salad, bone-in ribeye and for dessert the peanut butter and chocolate dessert. I ordered the appetizer special, lobster bisque, the bone-in ribeye and a cheese course. I also had a perfectly balanced Old-fashioned, not too sweet and a glass of the mid-price Cabernet Sauvignon. My wife's salad was good but unremarkable. Her steak was cooked exactly to her preferred temp. She raved about the dessert--loved it! The lobster bisque was described better than it was executed. It had some crabmeat added, but the taste that was understated was--lobster. The steak was excellent and the complimentary Béarnaise sauce took it up an extra level. The cheese cart had a good number of choices and a plethora of condiments. All and all, we had a great date night and we will definitely be back.

The ambiance was nice. Great view of the US Capitol! The food was quite good, my coulotte steak was a little tough(maybe it's that cut?) all the sides were very tasty. Our waiter took awhile to get over to us, but once he did, the service was very good. They were out of the first bottle of wine we ordered, but the next one was very good. Everyone that works there seems very friendly. I'd be willing to go try it again to see how it was a second time before I made any hard decisions!

The American Wagyu Strip was absolutely fantastic, and the filet Minton was the largest and most tender filet I have ever had. It appeared to be almost 12 oz, and was cooked perfectly. The gnocchi side was better than any Italian restaurant I’ve been to, and the wine selection was diverse and impressive.

We were in D.C. for vacation, and this place was 2 blocks from hotel. Quiet, pleasant atmosphere. Server was great. I ordered a specialty drink that she suggested, and it was fantastic. Food was delicious, except for my husband's was steak was a little over cooked. However, we did not complain. But they did make a special dish for my daughter's birthday, which she posted immediately. Overall, great experience.

I was excited to have dinner at Charlie Palmer’s for restaurant week in DC. First the good, the appetizers on the menu were pretty decent, I did enjoy the homemade meatballs; however they were room temperature at best, the pasta seem very fresh and was cooked well. My wife was not a fan of the salad she and commented that it needed a little something extra to make it pop. The main entrées were good I found the short rib a bit under-seasoned with salt. The pork piccata dish with the polenta and grits was absolutely amazing I cleared my plate!

My son has a very severe allergy to dairy which caused him to have a liver transplant at the young age of eight weeks old, now at five years old he is able to eat other foods—still no dairy—but expanding his diet. I was very pleased to see the wait staff and kitchen where alerted to his allergy via my message on OpenTable.

Now for the part that is a causes me a bit of concern with this restaurant. The chef did prepare shrimp and french fries for my son; however I was very shocked to see that his six shrimp and order of fries cost more than my $35 restaurant week three-course meal. While the shrimp and fries were tasty to my son;I do think that $42 for shrimp fries and an orange sorbet is a bit excessive for 5 year old.

At the conclusion of our meal my wife ordered the crème brûlée and I ordered the cranberry walnut cake I must say that a 25 minute wait for what should have been pre-made and pre-portioned items was a bit disappointing. The crème brûlée did not have a very firm and chilled custard which causes me to think that perhaps what contributed to our untimely wait was fresh preparation and the cranberry walnut cake was not only small in size it was neither warm nor very appetizing in my opinion.

I wanted to like this but $42 for a 5 year old is a bit excessive and desert could have been much better for such a fine dining establishment.

We went to dinner during Restaurant Week. Normally, restaurants serve good food to lure you back for another meal. However, Charlie Palmer did the opposite. No finesse or appeal. They just put a three course meal together to participate in the promotion. We have been there before and we loved the food. We were very disappointed in our meals. Thankfully the service was excellent!

We tried Charlie Palmer during restaurant week on a Friday night. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation because the metro can be unpredictable. We checked in and told we would be sat around 8:15. The hostess started to check on us around 8:25. She apologized at least twice and we finally sat down around 8:45. The hostess apologized with complimentary drinks. It definitely eased the disappointment but our waiter took no time to introduce himself. He was quick to take our order. It was not ideal for a date night. The place was overall loud, maybe typical for Friday night. The steak was worth the upgrade. Drinks were well made. Food was very good. The view was fabulous. Would I come back again? Probably not.

Food was great, Food serves were great, The check in is really slow and not well organized. There was only person to check you in and then take your coat and check that and then the person would take you to your seat -- the line started getting long to get seated. I arrived at 11:42 am to be seated for my 11;45 am luncheon appoitnment, and by the time i got to my table it was 11:55 am. For the amount of money you are paying, you would think they would staff the check in counter.

This was our first time to Charlie Palmer's Steak House. It was easy to find and so was the parking. The wait staff was wonderful. It was a pleasure to be served by a well trained staff. The food was excellent. My wife and I both paid the extra $15 to upgrade to the 18oz bone-in NY strip steak. It was excellent. We will be back again.

This was my first time visiting and I must say it was disappointing to say the least especially considering the various reviews I’ve heard and read. It very well could be that my expectations where too high or simply becuase my visit was during restaurant week. It was very loud (think of a sports bar during the NBA finals or Capitals playoff run). I ordered the bone in New York strip (medium) which upon arrival looked absolutely wonderful plus it was a really nice size but it went down hill from there. The steak itself was cooked just fine but it lacked flavor and wasn’t as juicy as I’m accustomed. I ended up drowning my steak with table salt to give it some flavor, the mashed potatoes that came with it where luke warm and portion size was surprisingly small. The service was great when he decided to check in on me but other then that my waiter was nowhere to be found ( I’m really hoping he was just extremely busy since it was restaurant week). I may give Charlie Palmers another chance to earn my business but after this experience I know I won’t be rushing back.

I brought my boyfriend here for a romantic dinner, but I think he now loves the steak we had more than me. The food was amazing, the staff was wonderful. Gus was the perfect amount of attentive but not intrusive, and after our meal the manager took us on a special trip to the roof of the building for the amazing view of DC.

This was about my 10th time here and probably one of the best. Food was almost perfect and service was outstanding as usual. Waiter Bobby was just fantastic. We had a small issue with a group that had brought a toddler and sat somewhat close by. It's just not a place for kids under say 14. Not CP's fault. The free corkage on American wine is a great great thing, don't ever change that. I brought a 2001 Pine Ridge Stag's Leap District Cabernet that paired superbly with my filet. Wife had an interesting salmon dish that she loved, and the two desserts we had were superb. Thanks again CP, you never disappoint.

Our waiter was attentive and personable. He sold us on a huge 60-day aged steak for two, which he said 'you could cut with a butter knife'. What we received was a tough, chewy piece of meat, maybe half the size we were expecting. When I showed him the effort it was taking to cut this meat with a steak knife, he told us it was because we had ordered it 'medium', so of course it would be tough. He then proceeded to give a whole teaching on the scientific aspects of meat and heat, etc. Having eaten many steaks in many establishments, and cooked many steaks ourselves, we do certainly understand how a 'medium' steak should be. We have had many outstanding steaks for a whole lot less money. We have also dry-aged our own beef, and I have a hard time believing that this meat had been aged for 60 days. The most disappointing was the decision of the waiter to educate us simpleton 'medium' people on the finer aspects of steak, rather than showing any concern. We should have taken warning when we saw the place was pretty empty. Would advise to avoid this one.

Exceptional 6-course tasting menu on New Year's Eve. Every course was truly excellent, as were the wine pairings. Highlights for us were the uni-crusted Icelandic cod and the Japanese A5 Wagyu courses. The service was warm and very well intentioned. Unfortunately, we felt quite rushed (the first four courses all arrived within the first hour of being seated, with each course typically arriving less than a minute after the previous course was cleared). While the precision was impressive, this should not be the pace for a tasting menu on New Year's Eve. After we pointed this out to the staff they were excellent in slowing down the pace of the final two courses. Overall, despite being rushed for the first half of the meal it was a very enjoyable experience.
