Charley’s Crab - Palm Beach Ratings and Reviews
Thought we would give it a try even after reading the not-so-great reviews. Overall, was really disappointed. Started when I called the restaurant earlier to ask how much the corkage fee was and the person who answered said it was $20 but we could not bring a wine that was on their list. I had never been to this restaurant so I had no idea what they had. I asked if their wine list was online and she said yes. I went online to look and could not find it. Our waiter was not very good. We constantly felt rushed when trying to decide what to have for dinner. The waiter was to return with bread and he never bought it. When our dinners finally showed up they were very bland. The supposedly 'fresh' fish was not so fresh. Will probably not return.
We went there to celebrate our anniversary. Charley's Crab did a fantastic job of making it special and romantic. I requested ahead of time that they put us at "one of their most romantic tables." They sat us in a separate room at a window table directly facing the ocean. Though it was a busy Friday night, they only put one other couple in the room with us. While the decor in this room is not as nice as the main dining room, it was still a perfect, quiet setting where we felt like we were the only diners in the restaurant. Our waiter was great, as was the food. The maitre d' also came by to ensure that everything was to our satisfaction.
I greatly appreciate that the restaurant made our anniversary special and memorable.
We arrived for our reservation and were instructed by the 'not cool enough to be so rude' hostess that it might be 15 minutes wait so we headed to the fairly empty bar, no problem. Except it was a problem placing a drink order with one of the two bartenders as they goofed around with each other. We were seated, waiting, again. Finally ordered dinner and a soufflé for dessert. Dinner was fine. But our soufflé fell in the kitchen our waitress said this happens once every night, hmmm. The manager offered to buy us one dessert to share. Really? I hadn't been to this restaurant in quite awhile, I wanted to like it but there is a service problem that needs to be addressed, somethings just not right, hope it gets better.
We arrived 10 minutes late for our 7:30 reservation which we had made requesting a quiet table. We were told it would be a few minutes. 20 minutes later we were shown to a booth in the bar. We refused the table. Another table was being cleared and it would be a few more minutes. The next table was adjacent to the one in the bar with a half wall partition separating the two. We refused that table. Ten minutes later we were shown to a back dining room where most tables were empty. Why were we not shown that table when we walked in. They had adequate servers in that room. Keeping guests waiting and then showing them inappropriate seating is not good for PR.
The remainder of the evening was up to Charley's Crab standards.
The food was great, the prices were acceptable considering the view of the ocean that our party was lucky enough to obtain. The lobster bisque was wonderful and the spinich salad was a tasty treat. The unfortunate side of the dinner was the service. The server was extremely slow and had a problem with a negative attitude.
We asked some locals for a recommendation and Charley's was it. They had innovative menu choices as well as basic fresh fish. We had a hard time deciding on our choice for dinner. We were not disappointed. We did feel that the wine list was too pricey with no interesting but under $90 bottles of wine! Also our waiter was a bit fast paced for our taste. All things considered, we would definitely return and are really glad we got the recommendation.
All the staff made us feel special. Very attentive without hovering.
Our server was extremely professional. The food was very good.
If you are celebrating a birthday, they will personalize your menu with your name.
It was worth driving from fort lauderdale beach.
This restaurant was recommended to my husband by a man he played golf with. The restaurant was lovely, but I was less than impressed with the hostess. She sat us in the back in a corner. When I had asked to be seating in the bar area which faces the water. The food was ok very overpriced and just ok. Not a restaurant I will visit again.
Our lunch with a view of the Atlantic was very good. Our waitress was very robotic; she sure followed a script tht left little room for questions. It is a lovely place for lunch or dinner in wealthy Palm Beach The menu choices were mostly seafood and seemed fairly priced. Older crowd in floral pastels.
Have eaten here before. Food is /was great. The only problem that we had (2 people) was that a group of 4 people sat next to us (they were fine). The waiter seemed to ignore us once this group sat down as he could see they were ordering much more food/wine they we were. We ordered coffee, the waiter never asked if we wanted desert. We finally had to ask another waiter who served us. We will return, but your wait staff should be trained to treat all customers equally.
They have a nice ocean view setting and good valet parking. The food was so-so. They offer a brief brunch menu that is mostly egg dishes and all of our egg selections were overcooked. The service was great and the drinks were generous and well-prepared. I'm a decades long fan of the Muir family and their restaurants especially Charlie's Crab which I frequented since the first one opened in Michigan in the late '60s. They evidently are now owned by some big chain and if this experience is any indication they have lost the edge they had for many, many years. Too bad.
The place was very busy and wait staff were like bees on a hive. It was all well organized and efficient. Our waitress greeted us and explained the chef's specials, then answered our questions about various dishes and preparations. While we decided on a choice for appetizers and entrees, she saw to other tables near us. After deciding on our dishes she took our order and wine order and our very special evening began. The food presentations were striking and I joked with my wife that they were too pretty to eat. But we ate them anyway. The food was delicious. The wine list was extensive and our selection complemented the food as we desired. From appetizers to dessert, food and service were superior. The evening was a bargain for the price.
Every bite from the herb infused rolls. Sesame flatbread and divine crab spread was amazingly delicious! We ordered crab cake for appetizer and it was ny far the best crab cake I've ever eaten and I've eaten them many places. Seafood is prepared to perfection! Ginger coconut rice was fabulous and I'm not a rice fan! Grand mariner soufflé was to die for but place your order 25 minutes before I want it!
We met up with two other couples as a midpoint for us all-we came down from Stuart. Menu had a wide variety of items to choose from. The only problem came when, after ordering cocktails, my husband noticed it was quite warm in the room. Upon asking our server about turning the air down, he said he had no control over it? Weird, so my husband excused himself from the table and went up to the front desk, and the manager, Norma-I think, moved us to another room, which was SUCH AN IMPROVEMENT!!! In addition, she stopped by twice to ensure satisfaction. For that reason alone, aside from delicious food, I would recommend this restaurant.
Always wanted to experience the iconic Palm Beach Charley's Crab...food was good, but the special touches were missing now that the restaurant is part of the Chart House chain. The table was miniscule and there were many other tables available. I blame the hostess. Server forgot requested lemon, hand towels toclean up. Not a special place in my book.
Main meal (4 people) was not good, All dinners were tasteless, small in portions.,..except the rice...which was dry. Apps were very good. This is the second time in a few weeks we have dined here. Above comments apply to that meal also. Our guests were very disappointed....we will NOT be back.
We had visited Charley's a couple years ago and loved it and couldn't wait to take our family back there this year --- what a disappointment!! Waitress was rude at the start and set the tone for the entire evening. Mahi mahi was terrible; lobster mac & cheese was wonderful tho!! We won't go back when there's so many other great choices. And the view is only notable if you're lucky enough to be at one of the prime tables in the front room & there before dark -- which we were not!
I occasionally entertain clients for lunch at Charley's Crab and the experience is always positive. Food is great and some portions are downright huge. I can single out the Dynamite Scallops as an excellent dish for those who want to eat moderately in terms of quantity. Good wine list as well. Will return.
We loved the food at Charley's Crab, but the service seemed strangely inattentive. From reception to the bar to our initial seating, things were delayed and distracted. King crab, coconut shrimp, filet and pasta were well prepared. The only disappointment was the Grand Marnier soufflé - dry and tasteless.
We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time, luckily there were seats at the bar and we had drinks and shared an appetizer there. Since they had our info from open table reservation should have let us know they were very backed up. Lots of people just standing around waiting for seats. They seemed to have the place overbooked. Food very good. Don't go on the weekend
The evening we went was incredibly busy so there was some confusion and delay in getting us seated - which was partly our fault because one member of our group was late - but our server was delightful, the food was delicious - beginning with the bread, into the salads and appetizers and then the main meals. My fish was prepared perfectly. Overall, it was a good experience but I wouldn't recommend it necessarly for a quiet, romantic dinner - thankfully, that's not what we were there for! :)
Although we made a reservation for a celebration of both my mother-in-law's birthday and my in-law's wedding anniversary, my elderly mother-in-law and handicapped father-in-law were forced to wait by the hostess station for nearly 20 mintues before they were seated because the table wasn't ready. if you have been to this restaurant on a Saturday night, you know that there is no room near the hostess station. They were forced to shuffle back-and-forth because they were constantly in the way. Once we were seated, it became clear that a table of 8 was too much for our waiter to handle in addition to his other tables. The food is consistent here so there were no problems there but the service really left something to be desired. Won't be back.
