Charley’s Crab - Palm Beach Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I were in town for a quiet weekend vacation. We booked a reservation based on the reviews Charley’s Crab had on Open Table. The food WAS delicious (snapper and crab cakes were yummy)! The restaurant was very quiet but that was nice compared to some restaurants where you can’t hear each other speak. We would come back again for dinner.
My wife and I travel to Palm Beach regularly and often eat at Charley’s Crab. Overall, it is very good - a bit pricey even for Palm Beach. Last visit was below average for two reasons - sever was fast talking - to a slur - and seemed to hurry us from time we were seated to paying our check. Few table visits as dinner progressed - waited for water and drink refills. Salad I had was drenched in dressing to point of being soggy - next time I will order salad with dressing on the side. Lately, CC is hit or miss by what server and what kitchen is doing. Not consistently high end food and service. Lastly, Christmas decor was underwhelming.
We went for Thanksgiving 2017 and the food was not edible , the turkey was overcooked, dry and tasted like it was reheated , the stuffing tasted like commercial chicken bouillon, the mash potato’s were flavorless and the squash was burnt . What a disappointment and total waste of money . My mother in law ordered lobster and was served 30 minutes after everyone else at the table , the waiter said overcooked the first one, need I say more.
Great service but an empty restaurant for a 1:30 reservation on a Friday. Food was average at best with the exception of the Blue Point oysters which were excellent and they should be at $36.00 per dozen. Much better food and value for the money within a mile or two of there...
It did not start very well when our waitress could not answer questions about the menu. It felt as if she was new. No idea how the meals were prepared. No idea about the cocktails "because the menu was new". She had to go in and ask the chef we presume and took forever to come back with the answer.
Our meal was mediocre. My husband asked for the trout crust to exclude bread crumbs and they didn't even bother to use the nuts on it, just dry fish.
My meal did not taste like much. really bland. I couldn't finish it. Instead I had the bread which was actually incredibly good.
We shared a creme brulee that was boring and bland as well.
Way too expensive for the meal and service. Not worth it at all.
We were visiting our family from out of town and had six adults, one child, and one baby. They were very kind and put us in a room and kept the meal moving (very helpful when dining with children). The food and service were excellent. The only issue was that our sides were brought a good bit after the entrees so they went largely uneaten but we still paid.
The upside: Service was great and the ocean view is superb IF you get a table by the window. The downside: The food is mediocre and we don't think it's worth the price. We felt the same after our 1st dining experience and thought we'd give them a 2nd chance -- but don't think there will be a 3rd chance with so many other truly great restaurants in and around West Palm Beach.
Grouper was inedible and was sent back. Manager said that was the third complaint that night. Rice on grouper dish was cold. Replaced the grouper with broiled snapper-it was fine, but not outstanding. Panko crusted snapper had no crust but a greasy coating of some sort of breading. Fish was cooked fine, but was not light and flaky, more dense. Asparagus was excellent. Not crowded on a Tuesday night at 7:45-probably 7 groups were there. However, we were seated where we could see the serving station of beverages. Next to another group that had the same view of the serving station of coke dispenser. Not the best table in the house. Cute, snappy decor, polite and responsive server, cold beer-should have been a great evening, but we love our fish and were disappointed.
The service on this visit was very sub par. we have been many times and the service has been exemplary. We were not aware of some of the changes, and they didn't alert us to those upon seating. (warm bread and butter) When we did ask, it took until the end of the meal before it was brought to us. :( We brought guests from out of town and were very disappointed. the food was great as usual except for the fish tacos which barely had fish in them.
I got the scallops appetizer, which I loved and the seafood trio dish (the one that comes with a crabcake). Which I also thought was very good. The only complaint I have is I asked if my dinner came with anything, and the server kind of looked at me like I was crazy and said it comes with whatever the menu says it comes with (which would have been nothing). So I ordered a side of asparagus, which had a whopping 4 or 5 pieces for the $8 (not impressed) and then my dinner did actually come with asparagus too, and on a bed of risotto or rice or something. Not sure why the server answered me that way. Maybe he didn't understand the question. Service was also a little on the slow side (we were there almost 3 hours), but did order appetizers and were talking, so not a big deal. All in all though, dinner was tasty and good.
Generally one of our go-to places when in this area. This time was a disappointment. We ordered a shrimp cocktail to share, salads, two entrees. After an overly long wait after the shrimp cocktail, the entrees arrived. "Where are the salads?!" The waiter then tried to take the entrees away and we said "no!" Fearing we'd never see them again or they'd be cold or reheated.
The irritating thing was NO apology, no offer of a free drink or desert. Nothing. VERY BAD service, certainly not equal to the prices charged. Very disappointing. Not a happy night.
We enjoyed a very relaxing 2 hour dinner here. We were warmly greeted by the manager and the wait staff was very attentive to our needs. Our dinner selections were well above average. There was a delay with our meals due to the kitchen mistake. The manager was very apologetic and after our meal she offered us a complimentsry dessert. We would highly recommend Charlie’s Crab if you are looking great food and service.
The steak was over done. Our guests shared our pasta dish. We were given complimentary desserts for not having the listed desserts in the Flavor of Palm Beach Course. Which was kind of funny since we paid for the desserts to be included. Service at the end was dreadfully long and the restaurant was empty. Not sure what happened, we couldn't get out of there fast enough.
