Charley's Crab - Grand Rapids Ratings and Reviews
I am unfamiliar with the "new" Grand Rapids area so had a little trouble trying to enter your parking area at 5:00 pm from the Grandville Street area which was my fault for not using the internet location guide.
I was very satisfied with the entire eating experience and would recommend Charles Crab to anyone.
Our group of three wanted a quiet area to visit and was given one. Good seating.
The server was excellent. She was personable, knew the menu well and was very attentive without being overly so. C. Crab is fortunate to have her.
My selection was the snapper and I must say it was perfect. Happy with the sides - very tasty.
Charley's Crab has been around for a long time, and for good reasons. The setting is fantastic along the riverfront. It's especially nice at night when the bridges are lit up. The food is consistently good if not great. The service, which in the past has been hit or miss, was exceptional during our last visit. It's a warm welcoming place - suitable for a romantic dinner or a casual get-together with friends. The Landry group knows what they're doing when it comes to managing a restaurant!
Went for early dinner on a Sunday. Quiet. Nice table overlooking river. Service was very good. Didn't go crazy on ordering...family had steaks and I had a spicy shrimp and pasta meal. It was good but not the greatest. I still love this restaurant though. The high ceilings, lighting, attentive staff, decent food...makes for a nice evening out.
Excellent location. Excellent continental upscale menu. Good balance of popular selections as well as new foodie items. Excellent interior design, giving great privacy and excellent views. The food was all prepared properly, excellent flavoring, and tasty sauces. Don't miss the Lobster Bisque.
Charlies Crab has been pretty hit or miss for the last 15yrs my wife and i have visited. This last time was a total flop. I keep rooting for them as i enjoy the ambiance and when when they are good they are great. But they tend to dissapoint about half the time with very boring menu and downright bad food, and speakers overhead that are way too loud depending on table location.
I had been to Grand Rapids many times on business and bragged to my wife about Charley's Crab. Now that I am retired I fulfilled my promise to take her their for a meal. We drove from Detroit to Grand Rapids just to go to Charley's Crab. Now I can buy that new Nikon camera and not feel guilty.
My meal, the crab cakes, was terrible. My husbands scallops were delicious. Our waitress was terrible and the restaurant was dirty. Even the hostess was less than friendly which shouldn't have mattered as we had a reservation but we did still wait for our table for 15 minutes. It was a half hour into our visit before my husband or I had anything to drink or eat besides water.
Went for early birthday after seeing Wicked. We had a reservation and were seated promptly in window seat over-looking water. Our waitress Kelcey was friendly and helpful. Our meals were prepared as ordered and plated nicely. All were delicious - Surf and Turf, Pepper encrusted medallions, and Snapper Hemingway with rissotto instead of rice. It was a perfect spot for special occasion!
So so experience. Soup and appetizers warm but not hot. Noise level was high due to several large parties. Server did not know the menu well or cover features we overheard other servers discuss. This is our second so-so dinner for 2 for over $100. We are not likely to return.
For being a crab restaurant, there was only one option of Alaskan king crab which was the highest price item on the menu. If it's a true seafood place there should be more crab options. The wine list was good and service was good but it took a while to get our food and that was at 1030 at night..not very satisfied for the price we paid.
Ridiculous evening. We made a reservation for 6:30...sat in your dirty lobby for half an hour. Seated at 7:00 with snide apologies from the crabby hostess. Table for two...a bench at the bottom of the stairs, eye level to the aisle, with guests and servers running by. Awful. We left, but not before we let the hostess know the table was not to our liking. She proceeded to use the Bob Seger concert as the reason for the wait and the embarrassing table. We knew about the concert, why wouldn't you? Your GM is dropping the ball in a huge way. Horrible customer service.
