My fiance and I went to Charley's Crab to celebrate his law school admission. We were seated promptly and had rapid service. The lobster tail I had was possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. There were very few patrons when we went so it was very quiet and an overall pleasant evening. The food is a touch bit pricey, but if you're going out for a special occasion then it's worth it.
Very disappointing. Many of the food dishes were either cold or dried out(the Belgian waffles and bread items). The selection of desserts was laughable -- no pies or cakes -- merely brownies and puddings.
We were there @ 12:30, yet many of the serving dishes were 3/4 empty, discouraging taking any servings. It was not very appealing.
Great service but my fiance and I left rather disappointed with our dishes. Although this restaurant is "known" for seafood, we didn't think the quality was a good as other establishments in Grand Rapids. My ahi tuna was not the freshest and our calamari appetizer was quite chewy and greasy. Ambiance was nice and our server was knowledgeable but we will not be returning.
We had our wedding celebration Bruce there. Awesome variety for Sunday brunch and the food is excellent. We return every year for our anniversary date for sundayour brunch. We also go other times during the year as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially Sunday brunch.
My husband forgot to order his salad and when mine came he wanted to order his and he was told it would take 10 minutes (for a salad?). The lobster on the surf and turf was not very good, kind of over cooked. Service was slow.
A fine dining experience for any occasion Great food, excellent service, and comfortable (almost elegant) surroundings.
Upon arrival, hostess area seemed clueless as to what menu we needed & confused us with other reservation. Our server was friendly and great. Food was wonderful as usual for the most part. Our favorite is the firecracker shrimp. We actually get 2 orders because we love it so much! Husband had pomegranate lamb chops which he said were good. I had peppercrusted tenderloin medallions, they were good but quite overcooked from what I asked for.
Mango mojito was delicious.
We will likely return again.
Celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary here. Food was amazing!! Best we’ve ever had! Definitely planning return visits.
Easter brunch, very nice, but no crab legs!😫
Food was good, brunch selection great. Our server was very good. The restaurant needs renovation. Wallpaper peeling, vent leaking water into booth behind us, dust on picture frames. Tight booths.
most food on the Easter brunch buffet was cold. service was good.
Great family place with quality food. We usually come for Easter, Mother's day or birthdays.
The staff is always professional!
We were seated with only a short wait (and we had arrived earlier than our reservation time), the brunch selections were as delicious as always, and the service was wonderful. We are always happy with Chuck Muir restaurants and recommend them without hesitation.
Their Brunch was wonderful. The variety and quality of food beyond our expectations. All the help were attentive to our needs, including not only our waiter, but also the front desk and the staff replenishing the brunch tables. We will be back.
This place has definitely gone down hill. The brunch buffet did not have many food options and many of the stations that they did have were bare-boned or empty entirely. We won't be back.
Fantastic service and great view (we had a window seat)
Good food. The service was a little slow and the music was not fit for fine dining. The food was great though.
Great spot for an enjoyable dinner, food and service are both outstanding. Best Key Lime Pie north of the Florida Keys!
Out table was overlooking the Grand River. Our server seemed a little busy, but she was as attentive as she could be. Our food was delicious.
The usual superb food quality and service. Both are rated consistently high.
I had a wonderful time. The service was excellent and I would like to give a special thanks to our waitress...she was awesome and i will be coming back to visit and want her to serve me!!! She is such a great young women. She is working so hard going to school at Grand Valley State and working and has a great personality that will totally get far in life!!! Thank you for making my visit from Chicago a great experience. Food was excellent and so was the atmosphere
We shall be back in 2 weeks :-)
Very lovely evening. A couple comments regarding cleanliness. Table setting was perfect - love the white tablecloths and traditional place setting. Lobby could bea little cleaner. Rug in lobby needed vacuuming and wavy glass could use a little windex. Graham, our server, was knowledgeable, attentive, and pleasant. Server Abided by our timeline for the evening.
Charley's is a perfect place for a business lunch. Not only is the food fresh and unique, the free & convenient parking is a big plus with easy access to the two major expressways. Our server, Kelsy, was a very professional and made the lunch that more enjoyable.
We made a reservation at 6:30pm and were sat promptly. Our server, Blaze, apparently hadn't noticed his new table. The server from the other section adjacent checked on us 3 times, the third time taking our drink order prior to our server coming to the table. After being at the table for 20 minutes we finally placed our order.
My dinner guest and I both ordered an app, soup, and salad. Food was placed on a tray stand near our table and the server, Blaze, then stated, oh your apps are here. This is after almost 30 mins since placing our order. He then picked the tray up and walk away. I noticed he then delivered the incorrect food to a table across from us. I had no stop Blaze and ask what happened to our apps. He explained that he was wrong and those weren't our apps. After being in the restaurant 52 minutes we were finally eating our appetizers. Which were delicious, I got the dynamite scallops and my guest ordered the crab cake.
At this point I asked to speak to the manager. From that point on the service was seamless, she delivered our salads and soups at the perfect moment and we were done with our meal in 21 mins. She also comped our apps which was appricated due to the delay in service.
Will come back, hoping for better service.
Very slow service (took 40 minutes after ordering to get bread, and 50 minutes to get our food), bland food, and tired decor. This place was great in 2000, but needs a complete overhaul (both the building and the menu) to be brought up to date. Totally overpriced for the quality of food and service received.
Typical brunch options. Pleasant variety of dishes.
This food was incredibly sub par and disappointing for the hefty $30 Sunday brunch price. All of it was very disappointing, from the sour-tasting creme brûlée, to the powdered tasting eggs and flavorless catfish. The only thing that really tasted good was the dessert spread, and even that was a health code violation since they placed the tongs (which people have their hands all over) DIRECTLY on top of the desserts on the tray - a bit disgusting and unacceptable. The service was okay except for the hostess saying “My adderall and coffee haven’t kicked in yet” to the server directly in front of us as she was handing him the menus. The decor is alright but the walls next to the booths had food splatter and were not well cleaned.
All in all I would avoid here, and definitely won’t be back. For $15 I got a much better brunch experience at a restaurant in the market downtown, both food and ambiance wise.
March 15, 2018. Made reservations at 6:00 before a local concert. When we arrived, it was obvious that the restaurant was somewhat busy because of the event. We were greeted by the server immediately, but It took forever to get our drinks. Three of us ordered 6 oz. fillets and one had the salmon. The fillets were ordered medium rare and when delivered looked like a well done hamburger. Terrible cuts of meat and way overdone. However, the person that had the salmon found theirs to be done appropriately. It was brought up nicely to the server how poorly prepared the fillets were and she basically shrugged it off. No flavor piece of shoe leather. We left very disappointed. This is unusual for this restaurant!
Charley's Crab has a great selection and priced competitively for the area. It's a great place to have dinner before an event at Van Andel Arena and leave your car until after the show. Service was great and view we had was breathtaking.
We enjoyed an early evening dinner with a water view. The meal was fantastic and great service was provided. The free parking before attending the Eagles concert because we were dining at Charleys was a great + bonus and we plan to do that again for the next concert.
We have never had a bad meal. The food is always delicious. Staff is very attentive and personable. Food may be a little on the pricey side, but for excellent sea food it is well worth the price.
I have been to the other locations and was not impressed with this location. They were under staffed at the bar area, this resulting in long wait time on service and food & drinks. Bringing wrong drinks and food items. I had dinner in the dinning area and they made other mistakes (warm crab cakes) resulting in them taking off 10.00. This did not make up for all the issues. The manager on duty was flip about bring it to his atttention. He smelled like cig. and just walked away and didn't make an attemted. The assist manager ( I dont have her name) was great!
Loved everything about Charlie's Crab. Food was delicious. One suggestion, the table at was very dark, so much so that it was hard to even read the menu
It's a nice place. The brunch is very good....but certainly not great.
Always good. Love this place!
The food was delicious! Who knew fish could could taste so fantastic!
We were at a Weekend to Remember for couples. We were to have a date night on Saturday night. I have many food allergies and really can't eat out unless I know the ingredients.
Our waiter was awesome about my allergies, gave me plenty of time to look on my FODMAP app to see what I could have. He helped me with ordering my meal. The food was great and I never got sick, which is extremely rare unless I cook my own food. My husband had your new fashion and said that would be a drink he'd have a hard time not stopping. It was so good.
Thank you for making our date night so memorable.
Birthday celebration. All went very well. Everyone enjoyed their meal and service was great.
Saturday night family dinner. Restaurant was half full, under-staffed and dirty. Our evening was around 2 hours which doesn’t bother me. What did bother me was the service. 2 of our 4 options were not available. All the tables around us were empty and never cleared and clean. Not happy, considering this used to be a staple restaurant in GR.
Everything was delicious at Charley’s Crab but when we arrived with a reservation, we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. When we were finally seated, we noticed that over half the dining room was empty. This tells me they were either under staffed, or they just like 20 ppl waiting for tables.
Once seated, we had to wait 20 minutes for a glass of wine we ordered. Lol our waitress brought an empty glass and said the bar was backed up too. The rest of the dinner was lovely. Appetizers and Meal very good and came very quickly.
