This was our first experience at Charcoal. The staff was hospitable, helpful without being invasive. Both the small plate and main plates were beautifully presented and flavorful. The complimentary dessert for our special occasion was delicious. We will definitely plan other evenings at Charcoal in the future.
We love this place. The food is always good. Super service. Looking forward to going back soon!
Went several times a few years ago and enjoyed it. This time the Salmon salad was very mediocre -lettuce not great. The hot tea cost $5.00 !! So won't return.
Service was excellent from beginning to end. The people were so kind and helpful. They really believed in the quality of the food. We had the French Onion soup and truffle fries. Weird lunch but actually perfect! Very good place for a business conversation. I enjoyed myself and the food. Highly recommend! We’ll be back!
Fun night out for NYE. Our waiter was knowledgeable about all of the food and had great recommendations. Food was excellent and the drinks were strong. Great place to go for a date.
Bland, small portions, overpriced
The food is delicious. There is a new menu and we miss some of the older items. The chef is very talented.
Menu was not not extensive but the choices covered everyone and the food was great! Some very interesting choices which really made our meal wonderfully. Service was fantastic!
We went for Christmas Eve dinner. Charcoal offered a fixed price 5 course dinner. It was delicious. The ambiance and service was impeccable.
Set nice experience. We chose the small plates and had maybe 8-10 for the 6 of us. Plus the deserts of course. Overall they were above expectations to excellent! The staff was attentive and friendly. We’ll be back.
Not my first trip to Charcoal, but the best yet. Everything was terrific. Try the baba ganoush appetizer, hanger steak bourgignon and the gnocchi, all of which are outstanding. Service at the bar and our table matched the food.
I love the atmosphere here -- it has a relaxed, understated creative vibe and quiet energy. The service was friendly and fantastic, and the food was phenomenal. We had the Chefs Tasting, and every dish was incredible, but I especially enjoyed the hummus (creamiest I've ever had) and smoked salmon risotto. The wines were expertly paired with the plates, and I certainly plan to return regularly
Great place for dinner in very nice community. Always very good service.
Great BBQ with just enough mix of classic and creative flavors. The ribs are huge, the pork belly and brussel sprouts are amazing, and the meat is tender. Always a great choice.
Great variety of small plates and main dishes. We could not pick a favorite, as everything was excellent
We were there on a week night, so they were not very busy. The food was excellent notable the truffel fries, salmon risotto and brussel sprouts. We would return with no hesitation.
The venue was pleasant and the service was attentive. The brunch food options were fairly generic. Nice place to catch up with friends but would not visit for memorable food.
The food and service were excellent. The ambiance was casual elegant and very comfortable. You could come dressed up or casual and not feel out of place. This would even be a very nice place to go for wine and dessert. My husband and I will definitely be back to dine again. I have already recommended it to a friend for her birthday night out.
We have visited this restaurant a number of times, but this evening was for Thanksgiving dinner. The food is always good, but this was exceptional for me especially. As a gluten-free diner, I was ecstatic to see that they had a several-course Thanksgiving dinner that actually had gluten-free gravy and an exceptional gluten-free dessert. I had not been this excited for some time, for I had been lacking a traditional turkey dinner for a very long time. Kudos to the owner, Gary, and to the chef, Patrick, for making this such a special experience. I would recommend this restaurant any time of the year, for any occasion. Thank you, Charcoal. (We like Charcoal Bistro as well, so give it a try if you are near Old South Gaylord.)
Cocktails and Thanksgiving dinner were excellent. Sitting at the counter gave us a full view of the well orchestrated kitchen hard at work. The owner was very attentive and incredibly gracious. Will be back next time we are in town.
Annually, our family meets half way for a holiday meal in the Denver area. Randomly selecting somewhere we’ve never been before for the adventure of trying something new. This year the “dart” landed on Charcoal. Our waiter was very personable and engaging, all courses were a joy to the palate, and the atmosphere was ‘alive’. Definitely recommend to anyone who has not found this neighborhood gem.
Truly exceptional food and service. Spacious, open dining room which makes for a non-crowded feeling so you can enjoy the conversation at your table without hearing everyone else's.
Wow the food was absolutely amazing. My husband and I devoured our food. I had the mushroom gnocchi which was excellent. Overall great atmosphere.
We've been to Charcoal numerous times because its close to a theatre we frequent. Recently, they have changed their menu predominantly to small plates and appetizers. Of the few entrees that remain, we tried two and neither were very good. One of their featured foods is now octopus - not sure what that's about and we weren't that courageous. We miss the old offerings!
Not fantastic for the price, but not terrible. Server was excellent and very nice and attentive. Meal was only so-so. Chicken liver mousse was pretty good, but bacon wrapped dates, steak salad, and pear galette left much to be desired. Mushroom gnocchi was decent.
Great variety of small plates and entree choices. Excellent service
The service was great and so was the presentation of the food. The Nouveau Beef Bourginion was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. It’s new because it combined the savory wine sauce and seasonal root vegetables of slow braised French cooking with a delicious medium rare charcoal grilled hanger steak. A glass of their Spanish Rioja was the perfect pairing for this dish. What a great value! I would have expected to pay a lot more for this high quality meal.
I will definitely be back next time I travel to Denver.
We sat at the bar so that one of our friends could watch the college game. The woman serving us was extremely helpful, courteous, and made the evening especially nice.
I have lots of food allergies but still had an outstanding meal and experience ! We had the tasting menu of 9 courses. I only had to leave one out but I was extremely full. Even desert I could eat!!!
This restaurant is equal to any restaurant in the Denver area. It compares favorably with Rioja and Mercantile. Starting with a baba ganoush and smoked salmon appetizers that were Innovative and delicious the meal progressed through beef bourguignon that was prepared in a different way with quality steak and a great sauce. Their salmon preparation was different than any I had ever tasted but was absolutely superb. The interior is comfortable and while not quiet the noise level permits conversation making it more desirable. Being able to park on the street in front of the restuarant makes the experience better.
The food the ambience and the service are all outstanding highly recommended
Arrived at 7:00'ish on a Saturday night. Place was 70% empty which didn't seem like good news. Server came over about 15 minutes after we sat down. 20 minutes later, our drinks and appetizers came. At 8:15, we were still waiting for entrees. Had to ask server to go ahead and bring the check so we could get going to concert as soon as we ate. She apologized profusely and said (politely) that if we'd told her we were in a hurry, she would have expedited things. I guess that could be true, but an hour and a half and still no entree? In a 1/2 empty restaurant?
In any case, we finally got our food and we didn't have much problem getting to our show in time because the food was so bad that we couldn't finish more than a few bites.
On the bright side, the concert was great and my wife's food didn't decide to come bad up until we got home.
NOTE: I hardly ever write bad reviews, so this isn't coming from someone with ridiculous expectation. We just had a bad, bad experience.
Charcoal is a really wonderful restaurant. We began the meal with a babaganoush appetizer. This was a really Innovative dish with freshly baked eggplant. They used an Innovative mix of oils that made the dish better than usual and included whole pieces of roast eggplant on top of the dish. They did not have a mixed salad on the menu. However. When we asked for a chop salad they made a wonderful chopped salad with a variety of vegetables including some cheese and fruit. The flank steak dishes were wonderful including an delicious sauce. Salmon was as usual perfectly cooked and perfectly presented. This restaurant is on a par with Denver's best.
Great atmosphere & friendly staff. Terrific food and service.
The food was delicious and the wines by the glass well chosen. Our server was spot on: we were treated graciously.
There were only a few of us in the restaurant for a lunch on Monday. People don't know what they're missing! I had the skuna salmon salad and I wanted to lick the plate. I typically like a little heartier lunch but this did the trick. Get in there people. This place is a real find!!
Brunch was not good, will not return. :-(
We have eaten at Charcoal several times over several years and never been disappointed. Always a creative menu and excellent.
Our waitress was abrupt and rushed us through our meal asking us to settle up our bill so she could get to our other job. .
We needed a good restaurant for lunch close to the Supreme Court building, because Palettes closed. This place was not close, but not too far away, and the menu looked great. Generally, the food was excellent: very fresh, interesting, and flavorful. The portions were not huge, which was nice for a small eater. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The manager stopped by at the end to check on our experience, which was a very nice touch. We will be back.
