Excellent food and service and great ambience. Highly recommended!
I have been there one year and 2 months ago, I’m from mexico and i had a great experience at the charcoal but I went this week with my dad and the ambience was no good, the prices for where you seat is not fair, the service was not good, the table was not clean, even the salt was dirty!
This was my second time there . The first time we went the food and service was beyond amazing . This time every thing about the food was wrong . My steak was supposed to be rare and it come over well done . Another steak tasted like it was boiled and not charbroiled. The Brocollini was oily and not charbroiled!! And when let them know they were defensive about it
Will never go back
Ordered a bunch of appetizers and entrees to share. Recommend the shishito peppers, eggplant, hummus, cauliflower and cigars. The grilled meats are excellent, really great flavor from the flame grills.
This wasn’t our first time there but unfortunately very steep decline.
Food used to be amazing. It is now ok at best and definitely not worth the price.
Appetizer such as cauliflower, lamb Humus etc used to have tons of flavor with mix of coriander and spices... not anymore.
Meat cigars were good.
Steak wasn’t tender at all. Chimichuri Sauce with no flavor at all.
They don’t even have a clue on making Mint tea. Which had no taste at all.
We were seated at the back patio which has been poorly decorated and improvised on the back parking.
Ambiance used to be much better before (maybe because we were now seating at the back vs front...
At over $100 per person the value was definitely not there.
WE had a great time in their sukkah. The food was amazing. We will be back soon.
Great ambience for a kosher restaurant !
Fun place, great spirit, great food. Try the cigars, waiter gave great recommendations.
Considering that the food could only be served outside on the sidewalk on a busy street, it was great. The traffic noise was bothersome, but that was not the restaurant's fault. Great experience overall.
First - The food that we were able to get was fantastic. We had their Hummus and Moroccan Cigars. Excellent and so authentic to the food I ate while living in Israel.
Second - The support staff (busy boys and hostess) were awesome. They were super quick to get us seated and responsive to getting help for our table.
Third - We were seated away from the restaurant in front of the locked entrance of an alley that did not smell good at all. Our table was in the middle of the walk way for another table to my date kept getting bumped by people helping that table and the people sitting at that table.
Fourth... We didn't see anyone to take our order until I walked over and asked him to come to our table (which was about half an hour after we'd been seated). At that point he asked someone else to come over to our table and get our order. We tried to stay positive because we were really excited about the restaurant. We ordered two starters and two drinks. The food arrived fairly quickly. In the midst of trying to enjoy our meal the food for nearby tables kept getting brought to our table... just plate after plate. We didn't want it to get over to us so we had to warn off the staff bringing it so we wouldn't accidentally cause an issue with CoVID exposure. We sat their for another hour before I managed to get a waiter to come over... we asked for the check. $70 for a virgin drink, a bar drink, two starters, an alley seat, and getting ignored by the staff.
I'm sure that under different circumstances I'd recommend this place... but not right now. Not until they can better figure out how to provide service to customers.
very slow in getting a menu and attention food was delicious
Great food. Nice servers.
A friend and I were looking for a good burger this day we came across Charcoal, and we were definitely not disappointed. The food was delicious and the burger was amazing. I will definitely be back.
Delicious food. Large portions. Good service
Decent place, good food.
Drinks on the other hand are so so.
What I disliked is that guests were just stepping few feet away from restaurant tables to smoke marijuana covering whole dining area with smell and smoke
Loved everything about this place, meal and customer service!
Great experience. Great Food. Bit pricey but all good
Food was good, servers were nice and made sure we had good time. The issue that I had was the table and dishes were not clean. I had to ask for another plate, fork and someone else in my party had to change the fork too. Also table was not clean even after we asked to clean it again they just wiped it with dry cloth. There were sauce stains and oil that needed to get cleaned with wet towel specially during the COVID-19 time to get sanitized.
I appreciate the fact that they have been closed and are just getting back into things. The food was good, but came out cold. We had to ask for the little dishes of pickles when I saw them sitting on the counter inside the restaurant. We ordered a humus dish to start and we got two pitas. We were four diners. We asked for more pita, it costs $1.75....hmmm So the food was tasty all in all. I'm not sure we will return very soon, it was a bit expensive. Maybe we'll give them a few months and try a lunch date!
The food was very tasty, the servings were large and the service was friendly . We sat outside and it was a little tight but inside was very smoky and loud. Would go back again
Great place to celebrate special occasions. The food is super delicious! Worth every penny
Hands down the best kosher restaurant PERIOD!!!!!!
Incredibly high prices for very average food. Tables small and cramped. Would not recommend nor return.
It’s loud it’s a little grubby the service is very in your face, BUT the lamb hummus was VERY tasty and their 24oz steak was cooked to perfection. The food saved it because everything else was a little in your face
A galass broke on our table and my friend cut his hand. They server was very nice to ask what happened and took care of the broken pieces fast but they had no first aid supply even though atleast a type 1 first aid kit is required for resturants by the federal Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration. No bandage, no pad, nothing! They just gave him some ice!
The food was ok. Obviously kosher food is expensive. Lava Cake was good. We didn't like the tiramisu.
While the food at charcoal is good, the disappointing service will ruin your entire experience. The restaurant is understaffed, employees overworked, confused and unprofessional. This was my third strike for Charcoal after two prior failures where baseless excuses were made by the management. Appetizers brought before main courses, main courses brought out literally 6 minutes after being ordered (concerning considering it takes longer than 6 minutes to make steak fries and a burger), wrong food brought out at least seven times to various tables seated around me, birthday candles brought out to the wrong tables, and even tho I had a open table rewards card for this restaurant, they didn’t know how to properly input the information so I couldn’t use it. I ended up paying with my credit card only to have my card given back to another table. It took someone shouting I have someone credit card for me to find out. Absolutely horrific experience.
The service was not very good
We enjoy the food at Charcoal. It is always good and the drink menu is interesting. However, we continue to have issues with the music and service. At this meal we were seated in the new room on the left next to an interior door. Initially, the tables were so close together that I couldn't sit down. So the hostess moved the chair so I could sit. This blocked that door. She assured me that the door wasn't being used. That was wrong, people were going in and out, moving chairs and tanks of propane through the door. Our waitress initially didn't bring the list of specials and seemed confused that we wanted the appetizer before the main course. The music came on as we were beginning our meal. It is always too loud, and was eventually turned down just enough so we could talk to one another. I noticed one diner had earplugs! Our main course included lamb chops, one cooked perfectly and the other having raw meat at its center. The second one was refired and tasted just fine once cooked properly. We were never asked if we wanted dessert. When we asked for a to-go box, the bus boy took all the utensils and then brought us an empty box, leaving us no method of using any utensil to transfer food into the box. We were never asked about dessert and had to work hard to get the waitress to take the credit card. It was then brought back without any pen to sign the slip. Even so, this is some of the best kosher food in town and we will likely be back. I just hope they can improve service so that they don't seem frantic and become more sensitive to their tendency to have the music uncomfortably loud inside the restaurant.
Limited menu, but great choices. Very large portions, and excellent food but not sure if these are worth the cost. Extremely high prices, even for kosher steak. We sat on the patio, under heaters, and really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere.
Food was not good. The service was the worst part. 20 minutes had passed until someone asked us for a drink order. We had asked for the check at least 3 times. One of the times, the waiter we asked said we had to go up front to the hostess to ask her for our bill! Then when we received the bill, we were told that we had to hand it back to the hostess! All b/c our waitress was nowhere to be found, never checked on us and we only saw her once! Will not go back.
Yes but not to anyone over the age of 55 (for dinner). Music too loud and a bit camped. Cool place for young people with money to burn on very tasty but pricey kosher food. It does feel like eating at a restaurant in a trendy part of Tel Aviv like at the Namal.
Excellent food and service. Not a place for quiet conversation.
Excellent food. Friendly service. Lightening fast service (early reservation Saturday night).
Noisy inside- perfect outside
The food was excellent!
The burger was the best I think I have ever had. Great service. Great atmosphere.
Best kosher restaurant in LA. Great quality food and service is always top notch! Loved the ambience too! I will keep coming back for more :)
super expensive huge portions, service was great.
We had heard so much about this new kosher place with good reviews. To our disappointment we arrived to a small and tight place with overly priced menu, average portions and limited food options. All the meals were served in pie tins. I have been to Israel many many times. This was nothing like what I had experienced-from Eilat to Jerusalem and TelAviv! We got fooled. We could have gone to Pat’s for much better service, food, options, and ambiance AND prices!
Doesn’t get better then this!!!
If you appreciate great food this is your place!
