Great ambiance, beautiful restaurant and good menu/food. However, the waitress would disappear for 5-15 minutes at a time. Took a long time to order a drink, then a very long time to get the drink and order food, then a very long time to get the bill and pay the bill. The place has great potential, but needs much better service. The wine connoisseur was great by the way - real pro!

We had previously dined at the Raritan location several years ago and had a great experience with the food, ambiance and service. We expected a similar experience in their new 2nd location in Scotch Plains. The appetizers and entrees were prepared well but there were a few short comings which I would not expect at a high $$$$ restaurant. Drinks: Generally good selection and reasonably priced for this price level restaurant Table Bread: Two choices was a plus. The Focaccia was tasty, the little bread loaf starting to show its age Appetizers: Okay. Calamari was tender but breading a little on the oily and soggy side. The escargot tasted good but I really am not one to judge Salad: I got a Caesar, especially looking forward the advertised anchovies but apparently they forgot them :-( Green salad was okay Main Course: Okay. Not bad, not outstanding. We did get seafood dishes (one was a special). Freshness may have been an issue. Perhaps best to have steak at a steakhouse? Asparagus side was tasty but could have been done just a bit more. The stems were woody! Service: Excellent. Server was there when you needed him but not there when you didn't want him around. Likely will not return. The meal with drinks was expensive which is okay but there are a number of better restaurant choices at this price level.

The food was not cooked at right temperature. The cook tried for second time it still was not right. This is the 2nd time this has happened. We probably will not come back and go back to roots at summit

We had a great dinner and our server, McKenna was amazing! I would highly recommend and I will definitely ask for her next time I come there. Yum!!

I came here to celebrate my son’s high school graduation. The food was delish. Pricey but not unreasonable. Richard serviced our table and he was spot on and did not miss a beat. He was extremely polite and professional. Everyone who who serviced our table was friendly and I liked the way they all worked together. It was a fabulous experience and I look forward to coming back.

A good meal with good, but a little slow service. My big gripe is, why don't they publish menus with prices? Their prices are basically the same as those of other steakhouses. Why isn't the wine list online? What are they trying to hide?

Food is excellent and service is next level. It is a lot of money for the portion size and to be charged a credit card surcharge. Sorry I feel that charge/fee is the price of running a business and should be covered w the prices you’re charging!!

The experience was great. My only complaint was that the bathroom was not kept. For the amount of money spent and the type of experience we had, I felt the bathroom should have been cleaner. There was toilet paper on the floor and one of the toilets was obviously clogged and it smelled.

The Char in Scotch Plains has a very nice decor and it is very bright in there because of the design and the amount of windows and outdoors seating. The food was very good and they have a very good selection of items. We enjoyed the staff and the service(Christine). We were there on a Sunday afternoon and got to enjoy the atmosphere.
