   Our waitress Leah was awesome. She explained everything and made expert recommendations. The food was amazing. We will definitely be going back..

   We recently tried the new location in scotch plains for first time. Well, the food was quite good, the service really took away from the whole experience. We were faced with a constant barrage of upselling from our waitress, which I've never experienced before in any other restaurant. I was even being pressured because the cut of my steak was not large (read: expensive) enough. It was not enjoyable to have someone constantly pressuring us to maximize our bill so for this reason we would not return again.

   Our waiter was excellent. He could have used a bit more support from the rest of the team--waited about 45 minutes for bread and water glasses were refilled only upon request. The steak was phenomenal. The crab cake and calamari appetizers were excellent and good-sized portions. The cocktails at $18.95 each, I felt were pricey. Was disappointed to see the credit card surcharge on the bill with no prior signage, menu note or warning (or maybe I missed it). Since paying is the final phase of the experience, it did leave a small, unpleasant aftertaste.

   The food and the service were excellent, however, the noise level was so uncomfortable, couldn't wait to leave. Would have stayed for another drink or dessert but it was too loud. Gluten-free options are very limited.

   We were a party of 2, and they seated us at a round table set for 8 people. The restaurant was empty at this point because it was so early- this made no sense…. After complaining, they brought us to a table set for 2. Bottom line- our server, Sirhat, was personable, accommodating, attentive, & professional. He made our dining experience enjoyable! Upon leaving- restaurant was starting to fill up however, there still did not appear to be a reason to seat a party of 2 at a table set for 8. As a matter of fact, they sat another couple where they tried to seat us at first. I guess they did not complain about it. But it was still not necessary to do that.

   Was very excited to eat at CHAR new venue.. have eaten at Raritan site many times. This evening was very disappointing.. ...ordered drinks and server Samantha kept asking if we would prefer a full bottle (our party of three ordered 3 different glasses of wine) ...appetizers great...Gabrielle was wonderful serving bread....pretzel bread ROCK HARD... foccacia bread old...steaks were perfect...mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus spot on ..ordered soda and steak sauce ...20 min passed... our server never appeared.... and asked Mgr for same. ordered dessert and coffee.. .coffee came out...no dessert... waited 30 minutes.....Manager comped a cheese cake...packed it to go...couldn't pack up a creme brulee ....Samantha seemed overwhelmed and inattentive ...not what I'd expect for $388 bill for 3 people.. . I was hoping to be wowed since restaurant five minutes from home ....I would travel back to Raritan for more attentive service! I was very sad it didn't meet my expectations!!

    My wife and I wanted to try the new Char location for our anniversary. The portions are huge and the food was on point. But we felt constantly rushed with multiple people trying to top off our drinks when we purposely wanted to keep as much in the chilled bottle as long as possible. Our dishes were being cleared even though we still had food on them. Our waitress seemed like she wanted to upsell us on the very expensive menu. After receiving our meals we clearly would not have been able to eat more than we had ordered. In fact we took a portion home. Wasn’t bad; but will not dine there again.
